About Us

Offering interior and exterior design and consultation services with a focus on sustainable living, Holden Design Group was established in 2008 and is based in the St. Louis Metro area. HDG is a collaborative between a complementary and diverse collection of beings – human and canine. Melanie has a fresh and forthcoming approach to her projects. She works with her clients to help define and express their own styles, providing hands-on services from design conception to the finishing touches. Holden Design Group is her muse, her passion. She adores color, fabric, great lines, old things, and sustainable resources. She gathers inspiration from the world around her. Professionally designing for 13 years, Melanie has been awarded projects in St. Louis and across the country, including the cities of Chicago, Denver, and Los Angeles. Her varied projects include new and old homes, historic lofts, various commercial and office spaces, and senior living communities. With strong dedication to sustainable design, she continually researches and evaluates materials and sources, offering clients an array of products and services that are truly responsible. Melanie earned LEED Accreditation (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) in 2008 – a significant contribution to her well-rounded understanding of what it means to be truly sustainable. Her commitment to environmental design and historic preservation go hand in hand, and she is a marvel at seamlessly integrating the old with the new. I have worked with Melanie on lots of projects over the past 10 years or so and she is such a talented designer to work with. She has an excellent understanding and eye for detail which I very much appreciate in the level of work that we do. She also provides initial sketches along with floor plans for the client to give them a true starting point in the conversation about the layout and design for the project. The biggest asset for a client is how Melanie understands that design is not only about her ideas and passion for design, but it is all about a true collaboration between the designer and client!

Melanie is an incredibly, creative designer who always develops her interiors/schematics with originality as her mindset! Her interiors are beyond perfection and her style cutting edge! She creates as an artist with each brushstroke she refines no matter whatever style or design direction the client is requesting. I have had the pleasure of working with her on projects in the past. A wonderful people person and so thoughtful with her clients developing always a rapport that navigates through the hurdles of design. When remodeling the first floor of our home, we were referred to this business by our contractor. We hired Melanie Holden as our Interior Designer for this project and found her assistance to be invaluable during the process. She was readily accessible, prompt, and open to incorporating our individual preferences into the project. She offered her guidance and interior decorating expertise throughout, but we never felt pressured by her when making our decisions. We feel fortunate to have had access to her professional input, which allowed us to achieve a well coordinated decor throughout our home. We can highly recommend her without reservation.

Her designs meet any requirements you may have, such as child or pet friendly fabrics, with style and panache. She met our timeline needs and overcame unforeseen obstacles such as discontinued fabrics. Whether it is decorating a room from top to bottom, or updating a room using existing pieces, the results are wonderful. I am so pleased I have already asked her to design another room, and without hesitation have referred her to family and friends.

We have worked with Melanie on many projects and each one is unique. Melanie has an amazing eye and unique vision. We love that she uses eco-friendly products too! Melanie is one of our very favorite designers to work with. We wish that there were more like her! She is not only very professional but fun to work with. We love that she takes control of her design projects. That seems to be a very rare quality that most designers we have worked with do not seem to have. So refreshing!

Holden Design Group was the first company I thought of when a project came up for our clients, where they needed a rustic interior blended with modern Lodge-style amenities. Melanie worked with us and our clients to ensure the visual impact of the space was maximized, without being overwhelming or over-the-top. Tasteful selections were placed throughout the home with care and passion, providing a warm, cozy feeling. Our clients were over-the-moon happy with the results, as were we. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Melanie and Holden Design Group for any project. She brings great skill, care, and an appreciation of nature that provides a unique aesthetic to any of her designs.

We have done several projects with Melanie Holden of Holden Design Group over the past 2-3 years and have been exceptionally pleased with the results of each one. Major projects included a kitchen extension, bar / entertainment area, 2nd floor remodel, and an outside kitchen and entertainment area. We also used Melanie on two general interior decorating projects. Melanie has a fantastic ability to understand the customers needs and use within a given space and is able to design rooms and project layouts that exceed expectations. I also appreciated that Melanie identified many recommendations for valuable enhancements to the project that we would've never considered on our own. We continue to receive compliments from friends and family as their visit our home and truthfully love showing off our new projects. Our house has become a home that fits our lifestyle more than we could have ever imagined. Melanie was a key part of making this happen.

Melanie Holden changed the wall color in our living room/dining room/kitchen/hallway and bath. She added new pillows and window treatments in the living room and new quarts countertops in the kitchen and advised us on choosing our new appliances. Melanie is very professional and excellent at her profession! She completely changed the look of our above mentioned rooms and they look absolutely fabulous. I have referred her to many of my friends.
