I have been working with Joshua Alan as my interior designer on the renovation of my gentrified wool factory loft, starting with the foyer and currently continuing with the bathroom. We already have plans to work together on the study and office, the kitchen, and the living room as well, which should already say a lot about the level of trust I have in him and his work. Josh is very good at listening and truly understanding what a client likes. He has a strong ability to translate abstract preferences and feelings into concrete visual directions. He consistently prepares thoughtful references and proposals, often hitting my taste very accurately from the start. At the same time, he is flexible and open to feedback, and when something does not quite work, he pivots quickly and proposes clear, well reasoned alternatives. He has a great visual sense, a wide range of ideas, and is comfortable exploring multiple design solutions rather than pushing a single approach. When challenges arise, whether conceptual, technical, or budget related, he focuses on finding solutions and clearly explaining what should be done next. I also appreciate that when I asked him to look for more affordable options, he was able to do so without compromising the overall vision. Josh is very communicative and reliable. He regularly visits the site, stays on top of progress, keeps me informed, and clearly outlines next steps. He works with a solid, professional crew and adapts well when circumstances change or when I come in with specific requests. On top of that, he is transparent about his pricing, which makes collaboration straightforward and comfortable. I intend to continue working with Josh on the remaining parts of my property and would definitely recommend him to anyone looking for an interior designer who combines strong visual skills, good listening, practical problem solving, and dependable execution.

Josh is an excellent interior designer with a high standard for quality and a vision that marries beauty and function. We recently transformed 2 bedrooms of our 1950s colonial into a new primary bedroom with en suite. During the planning process, he gently guided us through each decision while maintaining the overall aesthetic and goal of the project. The end result was a stunning and unique space that perfectly matched our taste. Josh has an extremely calm demeanor that kept us centered and stress-free during renovation. More importantly, he smells really nice and pet my dog whenever he came to the house. 14/10 would recommend.

My family was doing a fairly substantial renovation of a 100-year old tutor on a fixed budget. Josh came recommended to us by a contractor we were speaking to, and I feel so lucky that we made that connection! We had experience with smaller renovation projects but really didn’t know how to manage all the moving parts of a larger project. Josh was a life-saver: able to help us plan, stay in contact with our contractor, and keep the project moving along— all during the challenges of COVID shut downs and supply chain problems. Perhaps most importantly, he understood our budget and was able to help us make wise decisions about where our money was best spent to add long-term value and comfort to our home. He was a pleasure to work with, was extremely knowledgeable, had an extensive network of subcontractors/suppliers, and was honestly able to do anything. To list just a few examples demonstrating his range: he designed/reconfigured an amazing kitchen from scratch, dealt with problems and challenges that came up as a result of the quirks of an old house, reconfigured our master bed/bath, mapped lighting designs, found us a structural engineer to help us open up a wall, and helped us find modern windows that fit the historic style of the house. Renovation is a pain! But we are so grateful for Josh’s help throughout the process, and we are very pleased with the outcome. We highly recommend Joshua Alan Interiors!!

We’ve worked with Josh over the past two years to completely remodel our home- what started out as a smaller project grew significantly in scope because of how impressed we were with Josh’s work and ideas. Josh’s creativity, sharp eye for design, flexibility and ability to take our very unformed initial ideas to make them a beautiful reality are just a few of his greatest strengths. Our project was highly complex, including a complete kitchen refresh and re-arrangement of the layout, ceiling lighting plan, upgraded/restyled bathrooms, and creating a new office & entertaining space from previously “blank” rooms. Being in a city condo, Josh was able to creatively maximize functionality for our space without sacrificing on any design aspects - a complicated and high attention to detail ask. For the past year and a half, my husband and I have been working with Joshua Alan Interiors, while he helped us with the entire interior design of the house we have recently built. He has been the perfect fit for us. Joshua has seamlessly balanced, (it almost feels like magic!) both our styles - my desire for color and pattern and my husband's preference for clean lines and a contemporary neutral look, into the whole design concept of our new house. Not only has he blended both our styles, he has also carefully chosen every piece to be kid friendly for my two highly active and “not so careful about their surroundings”, preteen boys. We came to him with a defined budget and he was thoughtful when helping us choose "the big money pieces", that would have the biggest impact and similarly, while always respectful of our budget, he was able to give us great alternatives when we chose pieces that may be out of our budget or otherwise ate up too much of it. We also loved that he has a great way of gently pushing us both out of our comfort zones and helping us choose pieces that we absolutely love. Joshua is highly organized and came prepared to each meeting with narrowed down fabric and wallpaper swatches, furniture, lighting and decor ideas. He always makes you feel like you are a priority and his only client. His attention to detail is razor sharp. Also of note, all the vendors he uses were amazing, so friendly and polite. We never had a problem with any installation or delivery. Joshua managed all the details and negotiations, so if there was ever a problem, I don’t know anything about it. Joshua and I have spent countless hours texting, emailing and sharing design ideas throughout the past year. He listens intently and knows just what we are looking for. We get countless compliments when we have friends and family over. He has made our new house into a treasured home!

I reached out to Joshua about mid-way through my South End Boston duplex condo renovation. It was an 80's throwback screaming for help. It didn't take long at all to realize I should have partnered with Joshua long before I ever began the project. His expertise is broad and deep, and it encompasses more than design. He quickly evolved to become my de-facto project manager. Not only did he help to capture my aesthetic when I had little ability to articulate it clearly, he was highly effective at collaborating and leading my contractor and architect. We are so thrilled that we found Joshua to help us furnish our first home. We had never worked with a decorator before and weren’t sure what to expect but Joshua guided us through all the steps and made the whole process easy while working within our budget. He was able to capture the perfect style for both of our personalities (even when we weren’t sure what that even was!). Joshua was a dream to work with you - throughout the entire design and execution of the remodel of my kitchen, 1/2 bath and living area. He was able to build a budget with me and be flexible when I wanted to make changes. His ability to mange the project, manage my changes and discuss the impact of my changes, as these were not things I could foresee as being an issue in the overall design. Being in a South End traditional brownstone with an open concept, cohesiveness is key and he executed flawlessly. Look forward to working with him again!

Joshua and his team were excellent! My fiancé and I bought a new house, and Joshua Alan interiors was so helpful, with renovations. We designed a new kitchen, two bathrooms, living room, dining room, master bedroom and game room. Joshua designs ideas were perfect. From moving walls, to selecting cabinetry, countertops and tile. As well as final touches of furnishing, wallpaper, paint and curtains. We were very happy with the final results.

Josh was great to work with! We had been in our home for 4 years and were ready for a refresh / were looking for a way to make our 1 bedroom condo feel more open. After searching around for different designers and contractors, we were given Josh's contact information from a friend. We met and hit it off instantly - we told him what we wanted to do and he immediately had some great suggestions for room layout and finishes. Josh was there throughout the process, making sure we were OK with the work being done and the design choices discussed. I had never been through a renovation and was expecting the worst, but Josh made it as stress-free as possible. For furniture, Josh was able to balance our different design aesthetics and select pieces that we both loved - I would absolutely hire Josh again for our next project!
