My wife and I had just moved into the area and knew no one that could point us towards a good architect. With a site and the desire to match the neighboring residences with a bungalow design, we hit the web. A search brought up Jody Brown’s blog, “Coffee with an Architect,” where Jody showed work and engaged with interested parties about architectural topics. The fact that Jody’s web presence was so strong hinted at the fact that his interest in architecture went beyond a professional trade – he cared enough for constant engagement and stayed on top of industry trends. We had a general idea of what we wanted, and found a Durham infill plan on his site that fit our personality. It was a bungalow, but had a design suited to modern lifestyles. Most importantly, the plan fit our personality. jody happily agreed to use his design as the foundation for our dream home. It went a few drafts, and with each revision, we quickly went from a comfortable home to our dream home. Jody was helpful and amicable throughout the entire process, giving great advice when we were at a loss, and politely letting us know when we had a bad idea. Jody worked seamlessly with our builder, who decided to enter the home into the 2014 Parade of Homes. We received an outpouring of positive feedback from Parade participants: Jody’s design stuck out from the rest for being sensible and unique, in a showcase littered with grandiose, cookie cutter “luxury.” We were thrilled with the end product and thank Jody for all his guidance, expertise, and skill.

Hiring Jody for our project was the best money we have ever spent! He helped us turn a 2500 square foot renovation project into our dream home. Jody listened to our needs and designed a floor plan that greatly enhanced the value of our property, and made it livable beyond any expectation that we had. We now have a wow factor to enjoy every day. He is also a great person to work with! I would highly recommend him for any renovation or build project (whether you think you need an architect or not).
