LD&A did our landscaping in the fall of 2022 and I am looking out at the job that was done and I still could not be more pleased and happier with it! There was care and concern from the first time we met with her thru the end of the project and beyond. She took great care in the design process to ask what types of plants we like and incorporated them into our design. Our home was a new construction home so they did the landscaping from the soil up and let me tell you, we are basically on clay which is difficult to work with. Karleen is wonderful along with all her employees. They did the design complete with a very large detailed plan and followed thru with everything - there was nothing for me to do but, do my part once it was completed (appropriate watering, etc). After the first winter she came out and checked everything out, we had one rhododendron that did not make it and it was promptly replaced with one of the same color and similar size so that they were still very visually pleasing - considering when the job was completed, to lose only one plant shows the quality of the plants used and the job done. As a matter of fact, we are often told we have the best looking yard in the neighborhood. She may not be the least expensive but she is for sure worth it. She and all her employees are considerate, knowledgeable and passionate about the job. We simply could not be happier and from all the 5 star reviews it seems like we are not the only ones!! We paid a lot of money for an awful landscape job. They did not prepare the ground with adequate amounts of dirt we paid for. You can't even put a shovel in the flower beds before you hit rocks and clay. Many of the plants have died. They came back and dug up all the plants and put fresh dirt in the small holes they dug around the plants. However, trying to fix this after the fact, when the grounds weren't prepared right in the first place, did not work. All the plants should have been removed and the ground prepared correctly. The owner told me the person from her company that did our job was no longer with them. I was shocked when I heard this since our job was VERY expensive and I thought she would adequately manage it. The fact that her foreman was no longer with them did not help us after the fact. It would have helped if during our job she would have come by to check on what her foreman was doing. In addition, the initial design document she created, (and charges a lot for) had shade plants under a tree that would not be big enough to supply shade for 20 years. Her son even commented when they came back to dig everything up, "that tree won't supply shade for 20 years" as he pulled out all the dead ferns and plants under it. They pulled out so many dead plants and replaced them that design document was no longer valid anyways as they put in different plants from the original design. We should have been refunded for her bad design. Worse yet, they even dug up the big pine trees they previously planted to add adequate soil under them (something that should have been done in the first place). Some of the pine trees are now dying. We spent so much money for our landscaping and it looks horrible and many of the plants look horrible or are dead this spring. They even had to dig up sod in the front and put soil under it because it was so uneven. Wanted to warn others!!! This company charges top dollar but the results are awful and they do not monitor their jobs properly.

The projects have always exceeded our expectations. They do an amazing job. We have used their services at two different locations and been very pleased.

The professionals at Landscape Design & Associates did a wonderful job of creating a rock retaining wall with ledge rock steps. They listened to our ideas and implemented them seamlessly. Their pricing was very reasonable compared with other estimates. They were on time and made sure that the area was cleaned up well at the completion of the project. The owner, Karleen, also instructed us regarding some of our existing plantings and how to care for and improve their growth patterns. We were extremely pleased with all aspects of our experience with this company and we would highly recommend them.

Karleen is a wealth of information and so pleasant to work with. She has helped us with erosion control in our sloping backyard, consulted on tree sustainability and most recently her team trimmed our gorgeous oaks. Gabriel and Cameron are skilled arborists and provided us information about maintaining the health of our trees. It was fun to watch these two navigate the oaks and heal the trees! LDA is my go to team.

I can't say enough good things about this company. I built a new house and needed someone to help me with the landscaping. Maggie, Karleen, Gabe and crew were excellent to work with throughout this process. The designs, plants, bushes, etc., were all top of the line and just what I wanted for a low maintenance yard with a great curb appeal. Maggie is just a wonderful person to work with and was very patient when I needed to make changes. You will not go wrong if you choose this company to handle your landscaping!

I’ve been trying to submit this 5 star review for quite awhile now... i had an amazing experience with Landscape Design in Brighton Mi.. they were prompt, gave us a great design, very professional, & did a beautiful job of planting & adding beds & a rock wall to spruce up our very plain landscape . Landscape Design has done a wonderful job with my landscape, they have great ideas. I did a total make over and they also ran some drains for me . It turned better than I envisioned. Their workers are professional, and meticulous. I will be using them again.

Karleen and her crew do amazing work! We are so pleased that we hired them. They put in a stone retaining wall and gorgeous plants in the front and helped with the grading of the yard in the back. Karleen and her crew are very professional, friendly, helpful, and hard working. They were there from early morning to late in the evening, getting the job done to ensure they stayed on schedule. Karleen and her crew have done 2 landscape jobs for us in the last couple of years and we have been so pleased with all of the results. Karleen is friendly and knowledgeable and really easy to communicate with. They removed old, overgrown plants and replanted with an all new design, trimmed and shaped up older trees and rebuilt a part of our rock wall. First, let me say she has a unique and superior concept of design that changed our front landscape from cluttered and overgrown to welcoming, and interesting. Thirdly, we have found Karleen to be very professional from start to finish. She is on time, doesn’t waste any time and created a beautiful plan. She took into account the images I liked and discussed key points with me before creating the plan. I feel like her plan was a perfect fit for our style and for what we wanted to accomplish.

Karleen listened carefully to our ideas and designed a plan that more than met our expectations. She suggested improvements that we hadn't considered. The entire project was completed on time and within budget. Even after the job was finished, they stopped by to advise us and to check on things. I hired Landscape Design & Associates LLC for a long-term, multi-year project for our lavender farm in Howell, MI. We are renovating a 1901 farmhouse on the property, as well as needing a comprehensive design for the entire farm. Karleen has been a joy to work with; she has so many wonderful ideas, yet is respectful of your likes/desires. She has made sure that she meets every deadline with time to spare, and keeps in contact with me regarding the design and planning. Last summer I found Landscape Design & Associates on Houzz and now, six months later, I am happy to say that we have happily finished the first phase of our landscaping with Karleen and her company. She and her colleagues finished the hardscaping in front of our house the first week of December. We're looking forward to beginning the new gardens in the spring. Karleen designed and installed our garden. At least that's all we thought she did when we hired her, but it seems she also folded in a healing presence. We go in feeling one way and come out feeling better. She created a space that is great for entertaining and is beautiful year round from both the inside and the outside. It was chosen for a garden tour, a calendar and more, but again, the most remarkable thing about the garden is that people feel better after being inside it. Landscape Design and Associates helped us transform our backyard from an out of control source of stress and frustration to a serene outdoor living room for me and my wife. They paid special attention to incorporate the elements that we did like about the backyard into the new design. The staff was professional, hard working and a joy to work with. Finally, we have a lawn we can maintain and show off to our friends and neighbors.

Landscape Design and Associates was brought in to re-evaluate the present landscape and design a new deck. The deck design is free flowing and moves out into the yard surrounded by the garden. It has a pergola and a fountain that gives the sound of moving water to the entire back of the house. Several walking paths were put in as well as two floating bed in the front of the house. Karlene and her crew were wonderful to work with. They were punctual and focused. They were fun!!! Karlene is knowledgeable about design and plant material. She was able to help us bring the yard and garden to its full potential. The end product was featured in a LACASA garden walk. It also took first prize in a multi county competition for design. We hired LD&A in 2011 to help refurbish our home’s tired, over- grown landscaping. Owner/designer Karleen Shafer listened carefully to our general design look and feel preferences, took us on greenhouse tours to flesh out planting options, and translated the inputs into a wonderful natural design that fit our lifestyle and budget. We already had some experience with perennials so Karleen made sure to incorporate our favorites into the design, plus proposed a few of her own favorites that harmonized with our objectives. She truly loves plants, and though that may seem an obvious characteristic for her occupation it comes across strongly in her case. Also nice was that Karleen actively looked for opportunities to boost value into our project, whether through reuse of existing material, discounts/sales on new purchases, or trades and adoptions from other projects. We chose Landscape Design & Associates last year to do residential design and landscape work. This project was more than just plants, it included a lily pond. This design was far more creative than that of others we observed, the crew was great and the customer service is superb. It was nice to find a contractor in whom I could trust to do the job. This company is very professional and efficient. The owner is very respectful and communicates well about the work they will do (type of plants, etc… that will fit your environment). I originally contacted Karleen Shafer to help me with a design for my small backyard, which was used for parking, and completely overgrown with weeds and concrete debris from a torn down garage. Knowing nothing about landscaping or planting, Karleen provided me with two designs and photos of plantings that would work well for an inexperienced gardner. She was attentive to my requirements: a space to park two cars, a patio for entertaining, space for a gas grill, something aesthetically pleasing, and plantings that would be easy for me to maintain. I was so happy with the final design that I also had Karleen and her crew do the installation. This was a late fall installation, and her crew worked around rainy and cold weather to complete the project. She and her crew were respectful and trustworthy. The final layout was beautiful - a flagstone patio for entertaining, a gravel pathway to the tool shed, and a variety of tall grasses, bushes and plants integrated with the hardscaping. I received tons of compliments from family, friends, and neighbors! It was a total transformation and I have enjoyed entertaining and maintaining it for several years now. Karleen stayed in touch after the installation, making sure to educate me on preparing for the cold months (e.g., cutting the grasses back) and what to do in the Spring.
