Larry from Alfresco Living Design is outstanding. I have a good-sized garden at the rear of my townhome. I planted a garden in poor soil, mostly clay, not good moisture retention, about 8 years ago and watched perform badly. I hired Larry to redesign it for me. We had a few meetings about what my expectations were, both visually, low maintenance and financially, and decided on a plan of mostly small and medium sized shrubs and grasses, easy care. We also talked about colour splashes and different textures of plant material. Once all these ideas were settled, Larry began by digging out my entire garden, often using a pickaxe to loosen the soil. He tried to save as many of the plants, mostly grasses, as he could, but because the soil was so hard, many plants did not have extensive roots and could not be saved. He removed most of the clay type soil and replaced it with four loads of enriched garden soil. He built berms throughout the garden. He consulted with me on what plants I wanted in the new garden area, purchased them through a wholesaler and finished by planting a few of the saved plants and many new ones to produce a design that is beautiful. He worked tirelessly to complete the job, really a lot of manual work. He was consultative and offered great ideas and he came in on budget! I love my back garden now and have had many hours of pleasure from it.

Larry did a great job re-landscaping our courtyard with new containers and other plantings. He also trimmed our mature maples professionally to bring in light to the space and made the maples look even better. With his knowledge, he transformed our landscaping into a beautiful living space. I have known Larry for some time and have seen an example of his renovations up close....very impressive. Given that my project was quite small, I never thought to ask if he would be interested. It involved the outdated frontage area to my townhome which is private enough that I often seek some sun & warmth there when I want to take a break. However after a couple of conversations, Larry came up with a plan to turn the area into an actual small patio with plantings surrounding it, and agreed to do the work. I have never in my life been more impressed with anyone's work.....the care he took in the preparation, the attention to detail throughout, the choices he recommended for materials and plants, and the hard work he put in to make it happen. And in record time. The lingering autumn weather we had enabled me to make full use of it, both for myself and even to entertain a couple of friends for happy hours. I look forward to more of the same come spring. My thanks to Larry for envisioning something beyond what I expected and creating the perfect little outdoor space for me!

When it comes to looking at a space and re-imagining its footprint for optimal use of space and maximum functionality, there is no one quite like Larry Myers of Alfresco Living Design. Larry took the preliminary plan we had for combining the old utility room and kitchen in our 1954 bungalow and absolutely nailed its redesign. His plan beautifully meets our objectives and requirements, despite the challenges of a (still) small-ish space with three entryways and an additional appliance—a 6-foot high wine cellar. He recognized where we were adding square footage but losing linear feet, and therefore reducing wall space for cabinet runs and impeding flow—and gave us an inspired new layout that corrected both those issues. And his eye for line is, well, sublime. Actual lines—both horizontal and vertical—are balanced and harmonious, and sight lines are clean and clear. Our new kitchen is going to be gorgeous, and our storage space has more than doubled! But this review wouldn’t be complete if I didn’t mention Larry’s gift for—let’s call it “diplomacy”: Where opinions differed about certain details (some small and some not-so-small), Larry consistently found a way to give us the information and advice we needed to come to consensus about how to proceed. And what’s better than that?—a designer who does great work and is great to work with! Thanks, Larry! I cannot wait to cook and eat and relax and LIVE in our new kitchen!

We have had two design plans, a rooftop & courtyard completed by Larry Meyers at Alfresco Design. Both times Larry presented plans that were very helpful in creating spaces that are attractive and functional with commercial quality furnishings. We appreciated the clean simplicity and longevity of recommended furnishings along with consideration for our budget. The plan took into account sun exposure during the time of year the courtyard was most likely to be used & furniture was placed accordingly. Larry was communicative & helpful in explaining the rational in his design.

Larry did a full landscape design for my acreage in Metchosin. He was thorough and his attention to detail was impressive.
