I had an amazing experience with MAK from beginning to end. They really listened and honed into what I was looking for in my master suite remodel, specifically the master bath and walk in closet. They also helped and coordinated the removal of knob-and-tube wiring in my second floor and the installation of a mini-split; which was very important to me in my suite remodel. They were able to creatively find ways to make my bathroom and closet feel larger, luxurious and timeless. They were wonderful guides as this was my first remodel and helped ease the stress of this project. I also have to give huge kudos to the construction team who were very accommodating and transparent throughout the project. They gave a lot of attention to detail from beginning to end. I highly recommend MAK Design + Build.

We have been enjoying our MAK-remodeled kitchen, family room, dining room and living room for about one year now. Our only regret is, why did we wait so long? We love the design and functionality of our new rooms. The entire MAK team, including the subs, is top notch and very professional. We lived in our house during the remodel and the whole process was pretty seamless. We highly recommend MAK.

A couple of years ago, my neighbor had a large renovation project. He vetted various companies and finally chose MAK. They met every expectation in terms of design, timeliness, choice of best contractors, craftsmanship, attention to detail, continual updating on progress, and sheer professionalism all provided with utmost cordial service. I was impressed with my neighbor's testimonial and said I was glad to know that if I ever needed renovation or remodeling work, I would know who to contact. And that day did occur when a serious pipe leak led to remodeling of my master bathroom. I did not bother with getting competing bids. I wanted to experience what my neighbor experienced and I am happy to say I did. For me, MAK also met every expectation. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

This review has been on our back burner for too long, so we finally wanted to belatedly express our joy and gratitude to the entire MAK team for a wonderful master bathroom remodel! We thoroughly enjoyed working with the design team of Diana and Madelyn who helped think outside of our narrow thought-box while simultaneously meeting every one of our wants and needs (increasing storage, maximizing overhead spaces, reconfiguring the layout, using beautiful ceramic tile, creating a floating bamboo-wood vanity, etc.). Their attention to detail made everything run quite smoothly, and their use of the "Buildertrend" scheduling and payment website kept us up to date on daily activities, itemized charges and payments. Keith, our project manager, was extremely knowledgeable, helpful and understanding, and he briefed us weekly on their progress and on any issues or setbacks that needed our attention. He and his team also displayed impressive craftsmanship throughout the entire remodel, and they effortlessly installed new support beams and joist for the reconfigured space and expertly built custom shelves for our high ceiling closet and oddly shaped water closet. The only downside to using MAK was the cost: they were not cheap. We ended up spending approximately 25-30% over the original estimated cost of the project. Yet, we were not complaining since the changes were extensive (moved toilet/water closet, new curbless walk-in shower, new floating vanity/sinks, etc., which all require major underground plumbing work), the expertise of each subcontractor was stellar (especially the tile guy), and the whole process (design, fixtures selection, permits, demolition, waste removal, outdoor porta-potty, selecting/scheduling subcontractors, the entire build, etc.) was done with meticulous planning and foresight. In the end, we got exactly what we wanted and more! Thanks again MAK for our new and glorious zen master bathroom, and we're eager to have you remodel our kitchen in the near future!

The way of MAK is quality, transparency, and efficiency. With MAK, they helped achieve our vision of updating our almost 100 year old home to exude a more modern presence while still maintaining some of its old, good bones. It was our first time ever doing this type of thing and every step of the way we felt confident and comfortable that MAK was doing right on our behalf. The culture that Ken, and likely others, have crafted at MAK is truly amazing and refreshing in this day-in-age. Every employee is gracious, courteous and smiling. From our perspective as the client, the bankroll, it is easy to state that we were treated as first-class citizens . But even more marvelous to see was how positively MAK interacted with the community, neighbors, and sub-contractors. The MAK culture is firmly present from within but emanates to those around which, for us, produces a better product. A great amount of appreciation was amassed at the end of the project. Our 3D renderings truly matched real-life and we were able to be apart of all the little decisions, this was our choice, that went into that achievement since a remodel, especially on an older home, is very different from a fresh build. Sure, we stumbled a bit, but it's the nature of the beast. It's our modest opinion that if MAK were not involved, the cost of the project would have been 50% more (at least) and taken twice as long to complete. And again, the quality of the project produced simply does not compare. We didn't live on-site while the project was in progress but we did visit often, if not daily. To maybe part of MAK's annoyance but hopefully to their benefit, we got to know some really great people. The company as a whole contributed to the home our family now to thrives in; however, we have memories and faces to go with some of the success stories we walk by everyday. We will always be grateful and never forget: * Jon's craftsmanship when it comes to to milling custom shelves while wearing formal attire * Sammie's ability to crawl through holes and find treasures in crawlspaces * Aldo's insane dance moves and unlikely capabilities to bend iron bars * Carter's mason work on the fireplace * Robert's tenacity toward setting and fixing doors, even if it takes 20 attempts (still waiting on 21) * Matt K's ungodly appetite for breakfast burritos * Judel's ability to reframe an entire house * Chuckie's inability to do absolutely nothing positive for the project (j/k he basically did everything) * Carlos's constant and enduring lifting of the veil If we have to do a full remodel again, which I hope we don't, we would, without question, go with MAK. For future projects, we would chose MAK. For anyone asking us for recommendations, we say MAK. Everyone needs a little MAK in their home!

MAK Design and Build are a wonderful company. Our kitchen is our second project with them and I can’t wait for the next one. Everyone was very professional and, most importantly, very pleasant to work with. From the initial design meetings, through the completion of the project we felt well taken care of. Whenever a problem arose, they were quick to respond and took whatever steps needed to fix it. Kellie Love offered us a couple of design concepts at our initial meetings, and we loved the colors and materials of the first one so much that we didn’t need to do much but sit back and let MAK turn our drab brown and yellow 1978 kitchen into a beautiful, modern, and functional center of our home.

Working with MAK was easy and we love the outcome. The project went as promised with no unanticipated surprises. Everyone was competent and friendly and had our best interests in mind. MAK made accommodations for special personal circumstances we experienced. While we loved the whole team, two individuals were particularly noteworthy: Matt B. and Diana. Matt B. was amazing. His personality and attention to detail made the process a joy for us. Matt not only did the work we had contracted for, he went above and beyond. For example when our air conditioner went out Matt reached out to his contacts to get it fixed for us during a heat wave. Matt's compassion for the loss of a family member and the special needs of one of our family was remarkable and appreciated. Matt's honesty, skills, friendliness and intelligence, added up to make the project a success. Diana provided her gift for design. She was able to help us narrow down many choices and we love the look of our new space. Diana was very responsive to our inquiries, and managed to keep us on track with decisions. Diana kept the "big picture" in mind and helped us chose materials and colors in an efficient way. Diana also went above and beyond when she showed up with flowers for the loss of our family member. We will always remember that. There are many other members of the team we appreciated: Ken, Jon, Madelyn, Matt K., Karen, Sam, Aldo, Brianna, Vivi, and all the subcontractors. We are so happy with our new space.

Working with the staff at MAK was a delight. Before any work had begun they asked me to fill out some forms to give them a better idea of my design preferences, purpose of the structure, and how it would fit in with the house and garden. Meetings with the two designers were thorough and enjoyable and modifications were quickly made thanks to Ilse's great computer skills. It was fun to watch iterations of possible changes on a computer screen. The project manager is very personable, fun, and eager to make sure the clients are happy. I enjoyed watching the construction process and was pleased at how they made sure to leave a clean and safe workspace for older clients like my husband and myself. I was very pleased that the project came in close to the budget they projected and they finished in record time. I've had many remodels on our house over the past 41 years and this experience has been the best by far. Sadly I have no more projects for them!

We thoroughly enjoyed working with the MAK team on our garage conversion in Davis. Every single team member showed a commitment to quality and transparency, and they were all very respectful and pleasant. We never had to worry about the overall quality of the work because our project manager was on site every day to make sure every aspect of the build was taken care of. We also enjoyed working with the design team and appreciated their guidance. We ended up with an airy and modern looking multi-use room and beautiful bathroom that fits our personal style! The team even helped us problem solve a unique storage solution that made up for the loss of our garage. We plan to use this team again for our upcoming kitchen and second bath remodel.

Our 1990s kitchen and family room needed a major update. The remodel had to be done right because it would define our home for the next 20 years and be the place we’d end up spending half our time when at home. For those reasons, we chose to work with MAK, and we’re 100% happy with that decision. From the initial planning to the last finishing touches, everything was done professionally and to the highest standard. What we especially appreciated is their transparency and responsiveness: everything from pricing to timeline is explained clearly, all our questions were promptly answered, and all our concerns were addressed quickly and cheerfully. A really important plus of working with MAK is that they clearly know and hire the best people in every area of design and construction, from painting to cabinetry to flooring. MAK did an amazing job, as we knew they would, on our beautiful new bathroom and entry closet. We love the way the project turned out. Our designer, Kellie Love somehow turned a tiny drab bathroom into my favorite room—sanctuary of the house. Matt Bozdech was a dream to work with and exceeded all expectations in terms of responsiveness and making sure every detail came out just as we had planned. With him leading the build, no issue fell by the wayside. It was a pleasure working with MAK throughout the course of our project, and the final product is a dream come true.

We are so happy with the results of our remodel done by MAK Design + Build. We have lived in our mid-century modern house for over 20 years and this was the first major construction project we have ever done. We knew what we did not like about our kitchen, but did not have a strong vision on how to improve it. The designers at MAK worked with us to come up with a plan that is beautiful, functional, and really works in the space. MAK Design and Build did a major remodel on our home when we first purchased it over 15 years ago. They turned an ugly 1960’s rambler into a modern stylish dream home. This was our 3rd project with MAK Design. Their superb customer service , attention to detail and sophisticated and elegant taste and style keeps me coming back for more. We are extremely pleased with our new bathrooms! The bathroom style matches our mid-century modern house and make us feel like we are at a spa. We were very happy with both the design and construction components of the work, MAK was always responsive to questions and the work is top quality. A few minor issues that cropped up after the project was complete were fixed promptly and without hassle.

MAK did an excellent job on all phases of the full home remodel. Their craftsmanship, attention to detail, and creative design solutions set their company apart. Their entire crew displayed professionalism and courtesy throughout, and we always looked forward to office and onsite meetings and follow-ups. The final result exceeded our expectations: The home is now livable and beautiful, a joy to spend time in, and we think of them when we open a cabinet or look out the skylights. My relationship with MAK Design+Build and Ken Kirsch spans many years of very satisfied remolding of a home I have lived in for more than 44 years. The most recent project involved creating an accessible bath and bedroom for my husband, a disabled Veteran. We worked with Kellie Love on the design, who was very considerate of our needs and concerns. MAK took an existing space and transformed it into an amazing bedroom and bath, full of wonderful light, both natural and added overhead lighting. The project manager Matthew Bozdech worked very closely with all of the sub contractors to meet our scheduling needs. He also helped to connect with a VA Representative who coordinated our VA Grant. His communication was consistent and greatly appreciated and the workmanship has always been outstanding. Although my husband is no longer here to enjoy the benefits of this project, he would have loved that MAK has created a space that will make my life easier as I continue to enjoy the improved features of my home. MAK has worked with us, like a very concerned family, which makes projects as enjoyable as possible. I look forward to working with MAK in the future.

We love our new kitchen and family room! MAK’s process was a great combination of creativity, patience, and professionalism. It’s good to know that there are design/build firms that take pride in their work and are able to get the job done as promised. MAK’s designer Kellie Love was able to take our basic ideas for what we envisioned and lead us methodically through the design process, guiding us away from pitfalls to a beautiful space and functional space. MAK is one of the most professional businesses I have worked with. In the design process, MAK made a real effort to find out my needs and tastes and tried to meet those needs without overselling. The work by the MAK carpenters and subcontractors was high quality and carried out in a straightforward manner. My needs always seemed to be the highest concern. Transparency and communication were always excellent. Remodeling is inevitably an intrusive process, but MAK made it as stress free as possible. Everyone was very personable and treated me like a friend as much as a client. I am very satisfied with the process and very pleased with the end result. While MAK may cost more than some contractors. the process and end result are well worth the price. I could not be happier.

The MAK team designed and built an outdoor shade structure for us. The structured process for determining design requirements worked very well. When the estimated costs exceeded our budget, Anthony and team did the value engineering and second iteration estimating needed to bring the cost to an acceptable level. During construction, Matt K. and Matt B. did an excellent job, particularly recovering from some unexpected delivery delays, as well as an error made by one of the subcontractors. These guys obviously have the know-how and experience to stay on track when things do not go as expected, which will happen on any non-trivial project. Everyone who has seen the end result is very impressed by both the design and build quality of the structure. I'm glad that we chose MAK for this project.

MAK is the best! Our renovation project involved a complete gutting & re-do of the foyer, kitchen, dining room, family room and laundry/mudroom (over 1,000 sf). This was the largest remodel we had ever done. On past projects we had encountered the ‘usual’ contractor problems and cost overruns. We were nervous about having the same issues on a much larger project. Furthermore, we were still living in the Bay Area and visiting the house in Davis just once a week. We really needed a company that could handle the day-to-day issues without us. We chose MAK based on reviews, a particularly strong recommendation from a neighbor and MAK’s comprehensive client portal. We were living in the Bay Area for the duration of the project, so we needed a reliable and easy way to keep up with all the details. The portal had everything we needed to know -- daily work schedules, building plans, budgets and payment schedules. They also effectively managed the permitting process with the City of Davis. We spent nearly as much time on the design phase as on the construction. This was time well-spent! We had a very productive and enjoyable design process with our designer, Kelli. She was accommodating and provided a variety of options and critical opinions, within our budget. If we wanted to upscale something, she provided reasonable options. If we want to reduce costs on something, she provided suitable options that minimally, if any, sacrificed quality or feature. She was always on top of her game and helped us streamline choosing ‘things’ from the endless possibilities of color, material, functionality, etc. to help us quickly converge to a great solution. Brian, our project manager, was our primary contact during the construction phase. He was hands-on, extremely knowledgeable and easy to work with. He was onsite on all work days and easily accessible. We were impressed by Brian’s attention to detail and his commitment to providing us the best possible outcome. He managed the subs and his team without us having to get involved. The project went very smoothly due mainly to Brian’s project management leadership. The work area was always very neat and orderly. When we visited on weekends (no work scheduled), all tools and materials were arranged very neatly, the floors were free of debris. Brian was focused on our project throughout the construction phase. Everyone involved on the project, from Ken the owner, to all the subcontractors were very friendly and easy to work with. Our project was completed on time, on budget and we loved the outcome! We will continue using MAK for a smaller Phase II project involving French doors. We wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone, with no hesitation — great people, excellent work ethic, high integrity with outstanding results. Note: Due to COVID, we met weekly over video, which worked well. Once the project was underway, we met onsite when critical milestones were reached, or on an ad hoc basis, as needed.

We have done two big remodels in addition to a few minor projects with MAK, including bathrooms, addition of an outdoor living space, a laundry room, and building a modern concept entertainment center in our living room. We wanted to work with a remodel firm that would carry our projects from start to finish, provide modern designs, solid workmanship, and warranty the work after completion for a long time. If this is what you are seeking, you need to look no further than MAK. There is no comparable for this design build firm in all of Davis, Woodland, Dixon, Winters, and the neighboring Sacramento suburbs. During the construction phase, you will have the peace of mind of all project needs being handled by the MAK team including obtaining, and approving permits, maintaining records, an easy system to track and pay invoices through buildertrend, and monitor the progress of your project. The highly orchestrated remodel process includes assigning a project manager for the job, and excellent communication with the client on all stages of the project. MAK is also very flexible in terms of adjusting to the customer needs, should the scope of the project increase during the renovation process - very typical for most renovations. Pricing is transparent and upfront, and you will not have to worry about additional dollars being tagged on at the end of the project unless, a specific need warranted it. The workmanship and professionalism are excellent, but where they truly shine is in the design team. MAK remodels all start with a solid design plan. All design projects are overseen by design director Anthony, who has a ton of experience and has been with MAK for over 15 years. The overall design sensibility of MAK is geared towards modern and contemporary designs, keeping sustainability and energy saving in mind. For all of our remodels, we had the good fortune of working with Kelli Lopez (senior designer at MAK). Kelli by far is the pillar of the design team - a keen listener, astute, detailed, customer focused, and simply brilliant in finding innovative solutions to all your living space needs. When you choose MAK you are not just doing a renovation, you are going to build a living space that is going to be highly functional, in addition to aesthetic and modern - something that you will cherish for years to come. Although it might seem like you may have paid more than what you might have initially planned for, it will very well be worth it in the long run as you enjoy your living space for years to come. We are not done with all of our remodels and still plan on doing our kitchen and a couple other bathrooms - needless to say we love working with MAK and their entire team, and remain committed to working with MAK for our future remodels.

Working with the MAK group is like working with your friends, and they get the job done. They are highly skilled at construction/remodeling. From the start, Ken Kirsch and his team were very professional first exploring our interests and desires for a complete remodel of our downstairs house (about 1500 sf), then coming up with a detailed plan and time frame for the works completion. Change orders were handled smoothly. The only real delays in the project were a result of Covid related supply issues. MAK uses a nice online tool, BuilderTrend, for handling all matters of the project. So, you can see updates regularly. One of MAK’s stars is Kellie Love, who is a wonderfully experienced designer and person. Kellie was a pleasure to work with. She is very knowledgeable about design, and really understand the customer’s needs and wants, and comes with, or researches, lots of ideas. We worked closely with Josh Powell, who was our on-site carpenter/project manager. Josh, Kellie and all the MAK team were lovely folks to work with. When issues came up about certain things we wanted done differently, they did it differently. Very easy to work with. The finished job is outstanding.

We are thrilled with our new kitchen designed and built by MAK! While my husband and I had a vision for our dream mid-mod kitchen, it was our MAK designer who was able to make the dream come true, given our space and financial constraints. Our designer was able to help us prioritize the elements of our kitchen that ended up being the real eye-candy. She also made sure that important details, albeit details we had never thought about--like drawer and cabinet dimensions--were addressed with finesse. Finally, our designer immediately understood our vibe and was able to make material and design suggestions that fit seamlessly in with our aesthetic. On the build side, the pandemic created a number of issues that made us nervous to take on any remodeling projects. But, with MAKs conscientious and tireless workers, diligent scheduling and organization, and availability to provide clear and efficient communication, we were navigated through these uncertainties with ease. Would recommend MAK for any project you have!

MAK Design & Build just finished their second project for me. They designed and built the hardscape in my backyard. As usual they were the ultimate professionals. MAK designer Kellie Love listened to what I wanted and incorporated them in her design, along with her own creative design elements. Project manager Josh, kept me informed and coordinated all the sub contractors with ease. A gifted carpenter, he built a bench that is as lovely as it is unique. MAK stayed within my budget and has been very easy to work with. I would hire them again without hesitation.

It was an absolute pleasure working with the entire team at MAK on our whole house remodel. We had some apprehensions about taking on such a large project, but working with Kelli and Kellie on design was a dream. They truly listened to what we were trying to achieve and were responsive to our desires while always keeping us on track, guiding us in the right direction, and (tactfully) steering us away from bad choices. We are thrilled with the final layout, design, and materials. The move into construction was seamless, in large part because we knew that Kelli and Kellie were keeping an eye on everything. At that point, we had so much trust in them that the few times any decisions needed to be made during construction, our response was usually: “Can you ask Kelli and Kellie? If they agree, let’s go with that.” We were abroad for the entire construction phase of the project. Demo started the day we left, and the project was complete (on time and on budget) before we returned. Many of the friends we talked to couldn’t believe that we would do a project like this while being out of the country. We had faith in the team, and our faith was more than justified. Jon and Matt B. were fantastic project managers. We loved being able to enjoy our time away, having full confidence that the house was in good hands. Seeing the house in person, the quality of the craftsmanship and attention to detail shine through. Both of them went above and beyond for us. The day before we were leaving, I wasn’t sure how our PODS pickup window would align with the dumpster arrival and we were scrambling to get a few other things sorted for the crew. Jon said: “We’ll take care of everything. Just don’t worry and enjoy your trip.” And he did take care of everything – not just that day but through the whole first half of the project. He also corresponded with our kids about their “plans” for the house and surprised us with a candy machine (one of their requests) when we got back. It was great to see all the pieces come together with Matt B., and he was fantastic in the final weeks after we returned making sure we were happy with every last detail. At one point, I asked him for advice about a piece of furniture that got damaged in storage, and instead he fixed it for me on the spot. Over a year ago, we told Kelli and Kellie: “You somehow translated what we wanted into reality, but better.” The production team took those plans and created a finished product that is everything we could have hoped for. We love the house. Thank you to the entire MAK team!

MAK Design + Build was wonderful from start to finish. Ken Kirsch has assembled an amazing cadre of professionals and sub-contractors! From the initial design process to the final sign-off with the City inspectors, MAK established and implemented a clear and reliable timeline. Ken and Kellie, the design professional assigned to our project, listened to us, asked questions, problem solved, made suggestions and presented options and alternatives that helped us focus and clarify the scope of what we really wanted to accomplish. Kellie not only had an inspired design sensibility but was completely fluent in all the practical technical and sub-contracting processes. Our project manager Carlos was present throughout the construction phase. Carlos kept us up-to-date and was always available, either on site or a phone call or text away--and always prompt in getting back to us with answers and solutions. We began working with MAK Design + Build to remodel our master suite just about the end of the first COVID spring 2020 shutdown. Our weekly design meetings with Anthony via zoom went very smoothly, it was easy to see the remodel taking shape. Anthony is very creative designer, and patient while we considered different details! We added in a whole house flooring change (to hardwood) and partial remodel of another bathroom. We are thrilled with all the results, the entire house has been transformed. Robert, our project manager, kept everything on schedule despite challenges with delays in shipping materials and times when juggling subcontrator work was needed, all while adhering to COVID safety protocols. We enjoyed working with everyone at MAK throughout this process. We give our highest recommendation and would call on them again for future projects.

Remodeling involves many decisions, as we discovered years ago in a kitchen remodel. The remodel to expand the master bathroom and closet and refresh the guest bathroom was made easier by the first decision we made to have MAK do the project. The design team, mostly Kelli Lopez, came up with wonderful suggestions that enhanced the scope of the project in ways we had not imaged. In making the detailed choices we were guided by Kelli's recognition of our tastes, which made it an easy process. She was a joy to work with! Our project manager was Robert Uribe, with a team including Matt, Carlos and Shawn. These men were professional, knowledgeable, skilled, creative and committed to a perfect job. Robert kept us fully informed of the progress, even when there were problems. Everyone, including the sub-contractors, were considerate, respectful, and fun to be around. Ken, the owner of MAK, and Casey, the production manager, checked in weekly to monitor the progress. We are delighted with the results of the remodel, which came to include expansion of the laundry room and the creation of a utility closet for the water heater and heating/air-conditioning unit. We would not hesitate to call upon MAK to do other projects for us. In fact, we already plan to do so.

We had overdue upkeep of our Streng home: new flooring, windows, paint. And asbestos abatement. Floor plan changes made to one side of house to prepare a private living space. The process from start to finish was well done. At every step, we knew what to expect. Weekly meetings with owner, Ken Kirsch, and project manager, Branden O’Hara, allowed everyone to express concerns, update, adjust and marvel. Our concerns were addressed consistently and respectfully. The budget we agreed upon only went over when we asked for things that went beyond the original scope of work. They didn’t sign off until we were satisfied. Their knowledge of the flooring we considered, including its environmental costs of production and disposal, was solid. Asbestos abatement done with everyone’s safety the priority. Outcome verified by an outside third party. Made choices easy by delivering samples and forwarding website addresses. COVID sensitive to the max. We had one misunderstanding about an item that ended up not being in the original scope of work. Finished on time and at budget. I hired Mak to add some modern street appeal to my 1949 boring ranch style home. Just look at the transformation! What a joy the entire team at Mak was to work with. Anthony, from the design team, came up with the 3 different designs and I loved all three. His vision is simply astounding. We began to work with MAK on a major remodel of our house pre-COVID but finished just after California’s first shutdown. In this most trying of times, we cannot praise MAK enough for keeping the project going forward smoothly. We are delighted with our “new” house and eager to show it to friends and family. MAK staff who were particularly helpful in the remodel process include the design team of Kelli Lopez and Kellie Love. Both were patient with our changing thoughts and threw themselves into our admittedly quirky demands for multiple colors, and from flooring, cabinetry, countertops to wall paints, they produced rooms that are color-saturated and immensely satisfying to spend time in. It was a pleasure working with MAK Design + Build on the extensive remodel and renovation of our 1926 home, cottage and garage. The project focused on the remodel of the kitchen and three bathrooms but involved considerably more. We have just completed our third major remodeling with MAK. We hired MAK Design + Build to change the footprint of our house and add a screen porch. Business owner Ken Kirsch was amazing at helping us distill the project. Designer Anthony Anderson’s design for the porch is so cool... he added things that really elevate the room and draw us out every sunny day. Project manager Brian Krall was so easy to have around. We have never had anyone work on our house with such an attention to detail as Brian. A+++ and extra credit points all around.

We hired MAK for an extensive kitchen remodel (including bumping out an exterior wall) in 2016, and were thrilled with the result, so we didn't really even consider going elsewhere when it came time for additional remodeling. This time, we hired MAK to remodel our master bathroom, as well as for some cabinetry in the mudroom and a built-in bar in the dining room that dropped out of the kitchen remodel in 2016 due to budget constraints. Once again, we are very satisfied with the result, and even more impressed with MAK's professionalism and commitment to quality. While the kitchen remodel went through with barely a hitch, the bathroom remodel hit a few bumps, with some tile not installed exactly right, and cabinetry that came back from builder not quite to specifications. What was impressive about MAK is that their own quality control process -- starting with our project manager, Matt Bozdech, along with the design team of Anthony Anderson and Kellie Love, and backed up by owner Ken Kirsch -- caught and corrected each issue. Even things that would have gone unnoticed by me or my wife, were identified as "not up to MAK standards," and corrected by the MAK team, sometimes at what I assume were not-insignificant costs to MAK. MAK was still able to complete the project on budget and nearly on time (only one week was lost due to the cabinet supplier needing to rebuild some cabinets). Everyone associated with MAK is very professional and responsive. Once the design process moved into the construction phase, we were assigned a project manager (Matt), who was our point person for the duration of the project. Matt was great, and very solution oriented. Any request, no matter how big or small, was always met with "I'll take care of it." I want to especially recognize Anthony Anderson, Kellie Love and the design team at MAK. Prior to hiring them for our kitchen remodel, we struggled for years, and with a couple of different designers, trying to figure out how to make a very dysfunctional space work better for us (I'm someone who loves to cook). Anthony completely nailed the kitchen design, and it didn't take him long to do it. Everyone loves our kitchen, and the way it integrates with the rest of the house. Everyone at MAK is outstanding, but their design team is what really drew us back when we had the budget for our master bath.

Remodeling is stressful, so picking the right people to work with makes all the difference to both the process and outcome. We looked at a few other companies before selecting MAK and one thing that stood out was how thorough and professional the MAK team is. While they are not cheap, it was worth the peace of mind knowing we were working with a firm that cares about its clients and has the integrity to make things right. Our designer Kelli worked hard to make sure we ended up with a plan that met our functional needs while bringing an aesthetic to our house we didn't know was possible. Jon was our project manager and was excellent at communicating and following up to make things right. The in-house crew (Jon, Matt, Robert, Josh) all work incredibly hard, are amazing craftsmen and are just good people. Most of the subs were excellent, so we were glad MAK fixed the work of one whose work was below standard. Ken and Jon met with us weekly to keep us updated on our project and ensure any questions or concerns were addressed. There are inevitable glitches in a big remodel (we added to and remodeled the entire first floor of our 50-year old house), so we are grateful to have worked with a firm that worked hard to ensure the bumps in the road were remedied to our satisfaction. We love MAK! This was our second time working with them on a project, and we were even more pleased this time. They have an amazing team! They do great work and really care about us. We hired MAK Design to remodel our house. They did a super professional job from start to finish. Their designer, Kelli, immediately understood my vision and made the process of selecting materials and colors very easy and smooth. The different people working in the house were always polite, respectful and responsive to every request. Their project managers, Spencer and Brian, managed the project smoothly checking and rechecking everything to make sure that the work was done to our satisfaction. They isolated the work area and kept a very clean work environment throughout the process with minimal disruption. When we were ready to remodel our twenty-five-year-old home, we trusted MAK Design + Build to help us imagine the possibilities and then make our visions real. We’re so glad we put our confidence in them. From the beginning, it was clear to us that the folks at MAK were intent on learning what it was we were looking for. In our case, we wanted to eliminate things that weren’t working for us (a large hallway at the front of the house that seemed like wasted space, strange angles and blocked paths in the great room) and add some things we’d been coveting (a laundry/mudroom, a larger kitchen and additional storage). The design team (with the amazing Kelli in the lead) were absolutely terrific to work with. Kelli presented us with several floor-plans that would meet our needs, and then helped us decide which one made the most sense for us. When it came to fixtures and finishes, she was careful about giving us plenty of choices without overwhelming us with possibilities. Her taste and vision are impeccable. The project was big; MAK literally made changes in every single room in the house. Initially the project was scheduled to take up to five months. They came in a bit below that estimate! We felt completely in the know throughout the project, in part, because we had weekly meetings on site with Ken and our project manager and also because the owner (Ken), the design team (Kelli and Sara) and the project manager (Pete) were always accessible by phone, text or email. We really liked “the guys” (shout outs to Josh and Robert) who were doing everything from the demo to cabinet installation. We are so, so happy with our “new” home. MAK’s work truly exceed our expectations in virtually every respect. We would not hesitate to recommend MAK to anyone thinking about taking on a remodel. You’ll be investing lots of energy and a sizable chunk of money. Why not work with fantastic folks who also happen to be great at what they do?!

I would give 4 1/2 stars if I could. We were very happy with our experience working with Robert. He was good about communicating with us, and kept the site clean. We appreciated Ken meeting weekly with us during the project. We are happy with the final outcome, and there were no major glitches. Materials Kelly chose are good quality. Project finished on time!

Fifteen years ago MAK did a fine job on a kitchen/great room remodel. When I decided I wanted to upgrade my master bath/bedroom I knew I wanted them again. Owner Ken Kirsch guided the proposal phase helped by designer Kellie Love. Kellie was very thorough in assessing what I wanted, in measuring everything carefully and in developing a dynamite plan. Once I decided go go ahead she worked with me on a multitude of selections: flooring, shower tile and door, bathroom fixtures, electrical details, painting, etc. She is easy to work with and has a fine eye for design. Josh Powell was the project manager and coordinated the scheduling and supervision of the subcontractors. He did a lot of the detail and finishing work himself. He delivered the project on time despite taking a few days off for the delivery of his firstborn son. We spoke daily. He is a real pro. In particular I appreciated meeting with Ken and Josh weekly to assess the project to date and to discuss any issues. They easily accommodated the one change order I requested. I can't say enough about the quality of the people I met with MAK. I could't be happier with the project itself. The bedroom has new wood flooring, much improved lighting, and a lovely new paint job. The Master Bath is where the real magic happened. A never-used bathtub was removed. The vanity was relocated and a second sink added. There is at least twice the storage including a large cupboard for linens. My favorite? The shower which is at least three times as large, has bench seating, modern hardware and grab bars, a large very attractive glass door and, most importantly for me, a flat shower entrance. All of which is enhanced by gorgeous floor, wall and accent tiles. MAK is an excellent firm with wonderful people. And they deliver a product much beyond my expectations. Do yourself a favor and talk to them about any design build project you are considering.

I worked with MAK Design + Build on the renovation of my 100 year old bungalow in Sacramento. The house had not seen major renovations in many decades so the work was significant. From design through construction MAK was great to work with. They kept me informed of progress on a weekly basis. There are many challenges when renovating a house of this age and MAK was always willing to develop options to resolve issues which were both cost effective and in keeping with the overall design.. Last month we completed a large-scale renovation of our house. This is a house that was built in the early 1960s and has never been renovated, which means that although the “bones” of the house were OK, a lot of it was in a state of disrepair and the overall design (e.g. small galley kitchen) reflected the ideas of that time. We contracted MAK to do the renovation based on a friend’s recommendation and are very, very happy with the result. MAK has a process in place that helps them envision what you are looking for. From “dream home” pictures on shared Houzz ideabooks to a fairly comprehensive questionnaire and design meetings where they spend quite a bit of time understanding what is important and what less so. The house was originally very dark and one of our requests was to bring light in. Taking sun position into account, MAK came up with a design that involved raising the roof, cutting down oversized eaves, and adding skylights. The result is that even on a cloudy day, the house is bright and cheerful. The overall design is nothing short of brilliant, allowing for shared and private spaces and answering our need for sound insulation where necessary. The result is a modern, open-concept house with a shared space having naturally defined parts for kitchen, dining, living and family areas. The private spaces cater to our special requests with, for example, a dedicated meditation nook in one of the bedrooms. The great advantage of working with a company like MAK is that being responsible for both design and execution, they take care of you through and through. The designers follow the entire project, making sure that their vision is translated to the final product. And the execution is nothing short of superb. MAK’s attention to detail is in our experience, unparalleled. They saw things we didn’t and either called a sub-contractor back to fix it or if it was in their area (they do all the carpentry), fixed it themselves. Renovating a house is a mixture of fun and stress and I must say: working with MAK maximized the former and minimized the latter. They are extremely responsive and accessible throughout the process and managed to accomplish what we wanted without losing track of time and budget. We are now in a house that we love, and we rest easy knowing that if anything comes up, MAK’s one-year warranty will take care of it. Would give them six stars if I could.

Our house had a water damage last year and we were in dear need of finding a contractor to fix it, ASAP. Only when we started to contact contractors/builders for estimates did we realize how busy they are. Many of them were booked months and even a year ahead. Ken, the owner of MAK, took great sympathy on our situation. Despite their busy schedule, he was willing to work with us (many contractors didn't even want to come to do the estimate). Our insurance was definitely not an easy one to work with, Ken patiently waited when we had to pause the project in dealing with the insurance and jump started the project as soon as we got the green light. He was also very considerate about our desire to keep the cost down and quality up. Throughout the 15 months journey, Ken and MAK gracefully accommodate various needs arise from our insurance, the mortgage company and a cabinet vendor (we chose) that bailed out in the middle of the project. Having MAK repaired our house greatly reduced the stress we have endured during our phase of moving back home after an accident.

We have done two major jobs with MAK. They are true craftspeople and professionals - from the design stage to building to follow up. Creative and knowledgeable, they listen carefully and implement well; keeping in budget is one of their talents. Project manager Matt is among the most conscientious professionals I've ever dealt with.

MAK Design remodeled our bathroom and laundry room after a flood. We took the opportunity to do a complete upgrade on these rooms that were in their original 1978 poor condition. We also had MAK install a tankless water heater. The entire team from MAK was professional throughout the entire process from design to construction. Of course, with any remodel, there were issues, such as the wrong window glass was ordered, we didn't like some tile grout, etc., but they responded to every issue and worked hard to make it right. We love our new modern bath and highly functional laundry room. We chose MAK because friends recommended them, but also were highly impressed with their aesthetic, based on photos on their website. We love the clean, modern style they gave our new rooms. Will definitely use them again.

Can't say enough great things about the MAK Design + Build team completing the re-design and remodel of our 70's rancher. Great planning (Deepa, Juliana, Anthony, Tyler) resulted in few - if any - delays with permitting, construction, and inspections. We are very pleased with the master bath remodel that MAK Design and Build completed for us. Previously, we had a plain, uncomfortably small and poorly designed master bathroom. We envisioned a new bathroom, with a spa like feel, roomy, and outfitted with contemporary fixtures. Our kitchen remodel is our second project with MAK and they did a beautiful job again! After our excellent experience with them four years ago (a master bedroom addition), we knew that we had to hire them again to remodel our kitchen. MAK Design and Build did a great job on our bathroom remodel. Ken Kirsch and his crew were terrific. They showed up when they said they would and they performed quality work, even when confronted with some unknown and surprising problems with the remodel. They followed up when necessary and worked hand in hand with the finish contractor who was doing the bathroom counters and shower walls. Mak Design and Build was the perfect choice for our whole house remodel. They listen to our ideas and were respectful of the fact this was a family home that had been in our family since it was build in the 60s. Major water damage on two sides of our two story home had to be repaired and rebuilt. Damage was extensive due to improper new dule pain window instillation done by a contractor nine years ago who did not flash any of the new windows he installed. We were not aware of the fact he didn't put flashing in until I hired MAK to come over and dig into why we were having water damage. MAK pulled all siding off, replaced it. Pulled dry rot wood off replaced it. Pulled out old insulation put in new updated insulation. Repaired living room wood floor that was damaged by water. We then decided to have MAK open up our living room wall to have two French doors built which leads to our backyard. Lights on each side of the door were added. Our meetings to discuss the project with owner Ken Kirsh at his office were informative, easy to discuss, and talk over our ideas and Kens professional expertise as to how the project will unfold. Ken would come to check over the project weekly & Kens project manager was one of the best and always passed all of the City of Davis inspections. All of Kens crew were top notch, polite, respectful, efficient, easy to talk with about the project everyday they would come, always in good spirits and with a smile. It was always good to see them as we too developed a friendship. The business and crew Ken hired to paint, texturzed walls, electrician, all very professional, friendly & respectful & all did excellent work. Kens office staff is exceptional, always friendly, professional, personable and efficient. Bottom line I cannot say enough good stuff about MAK! We are so happy with the work done and our new French doors! My husband and I highly recommend MAK Design and Build. I suggest you have a meeting with Ken Kirsh before you decide on who you want to do your next home project. They are without a doubt top notch!!!

They put in all new hardwood floors, a wall of glass French doors, all new cabinets, seating areas, etc. It looks great and people coming into our home have referred to it as a "new" home (it's almost 25 years old!). Our walk-in pantry now has 2 wine fridges and a countertop - that's now my favorite room in the house! Ken (the owner) was particularly great to work with. He met with us weekly and continually made sure that the work was done well and that we were happy with the result. Even after the work was completed, if we had any questions or concerns, he made sure they were promptly and properly addressed. We would definitely use them again.

MAK did an amazing job our on remodel. They redesigned our entire first floor, including moving our kitchen and removing walls. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed working with everyone at MAK. They were knowledgeable and professional throughout the project. We really appreciated that MAK spent so much time with us in the design phase -- we had picked out all appliances, finishes, even down to paint and wallpaper before the demolition started. This made the process go smoothly once construction began. MAK was also creative in their design choices. We removed a load-bearing wall, filled in a step-down living room (that was really just a tripping hazard), added additional windows and French doors, and installed a new gas fireplace and gas cooktop. The new floor plan works so well, and the house is so much lighter, that it seems like this is the way the house should have originally been designed. We would gladly work with MAK again, and look forward to having them remodel our master suite.

I moved into this Village Homes' house in April of 2013 and the MAK started their work July of that year. The house had been a rental for twenty years and looked it. The renewal process was completely enjoyable for me and I was able to live here (plus my dog and cat) through the whole process. I love my new home and don't want to live anywhere else. MAK designed and constructed the renovation of our apartment. Included was a complete redo of the kitchen and bathroom, along with custom cabinets in the living room. Job was completed within budget and on time.

Kitchen reno. I've worked with MAK before and will do so on all home projects. They try to get every detail planned in advance to minimize budget surprises. Quick weekly meetings on-site to keep me updated. I love that MAK handles all the details -- design, permits, sub-contractors, plans, and I'm sure lots of stuff I don't even know exists (and I don't want to; that's the point of a design and build firm -- I tell them what I want and they make it happen). Everyone involved, at all levels, has always been courteous and never made me feel silly for asking questions, even when I've asked before and need to hear the answer again. I was home a lot of the time during this reno, and I appreciate that there was never a person who entered my home that made me feel uncomfortable in any way -- that's a huge factor which people don't always talk about, but if ever there's someone alone in the house with you and you get that creeped out feeling, you realize what a big deal that is. Definitely recommend!

MAK Design and Build were excellent to work with on our recent apartment remodel. They were professional, highly skilled and very easy to work with. The project went smoothly and was completed within the timeframe as contracted. When there were issues they were quick to resolve them and keep the project moving forward. I recommend them highly.

Innovative designs and great problem solving in tricky areas of kitchens and baths. We were working with a smaller space and Anthony was able to create added storage and a more functional floor plan while introducing us to the newest finishes and features available. Efficient materials ordering as well with great follow up. The team at MAK was always available for questions and clarification.

MAK Design + Build has now completed two major remodeling projects in our home. First was our master bathroom, completed 3 years ago, and then our full downstairs, including kitchen, finished Feb. 2015. Hiring a contractor is a lot like choosing a college roommate - you aren't going to be with them forever, but they are going to be sharing your space closely enough that you'd better be happy with each other while the work is going on. We could not be happier with the entire MAK team - from design with Anthony and Kristen, to on site work with Matt and Joe, to project management by Chris and Ken, to every contact at the office with Juliana and Ellen. Decisions felt easy, problems were promptly solved, our comfort at home during the chaos was prioritized, and communication was always prompt and honest. They have been out of our house for only a month now, but already we are planning our next bathroom remodels with MAK. Can't wait to get started! Highly recommend MAK to everyone in our community.

When we bought our 1948 ranch-style home in the older historic neighborhood of Woodland, we knew there were improvements to be made. Previous owners had remodeled it nicely in the ‘70s, but it was time to move on. We initially contacted MAK through our daughter’s friendship with Kristen Gong, and from our very first meeting, it was evident that this would be a great working relationship. Our interactions with the entire MAK office team ... Ken, Anthony, Kristen, Juliana ... were always positive, creative, and productive. And as for the on-site crew ... nothing but praise. Chris was terrific ... always available, and responsive to our questions and concerns. Really, after a while, he felt much more like family than our project manager. Carpentry work by Matt was meticulous, and every single one of the subcontractors ... plumbing, electrical, flooring, and painting ... was professional and personable. We took the kitchen down to studs, relocated the laundry room, completely reconfigured the master bathroom and closet, updated plumbing and electrical services, redid the entryway and front door, and repainted everything. MAK was very sensitive to our wishes about keeping things simple, and in harmony with the mid-century qualities of the home which had inspired us to buy it in the first place. It’s beautiful. We had a very bad experience with this contractor. Our remodel was completed almost 2 years ago and the house has proven to be a lemon. Many of the most serious problems were only revealed by a home inspection that we had done due to the lack of quality workmanship and inattention to detail that became obvious during the building process. A home inspection revealed that insulation had not been installed in our attic, construction debris was left behind, and that there was exposed wiring. This was following a whole host of other problems which necessitated my hiring the home inspector in the first place. We never got an apology for this (We were told the wiring was a preexisting condition which they had no responsibility for even though they exacerbated the danger and failed to inform us of a hazardous condition on our property) . Other problems such as the wrong sink being installed, central air conditioning being left out even though it was on our "must have list", chips in the kitchen cabinets which we were blamed for but which ultimately proved to be their not installing bumpers on the back of the cabinets, etc. were met with anger even though we were initially told we were "ideal" clients. Problems with the house have continued. The Belmont 1600 cabinets which MAK told would darken have developed visible white glue lines that look like cracks. The company states this is to be expected, but MAK never informed us of this. We repeatedly told them we wanted the job done "right" and increased our budget several times to accomplish this. In the end we have no end of problems with the quality of their work and have endless bills to prove it.

We would like to thank the MAK Design + Build team for the amazing, inspiring, and wonderful master bathroom remodel completed for us in September 2014. After previously remodeling a few smaller projects on our own, we realized the scope of this project would require true professionals each step of the way. From the design phase through the construction phase, the MAK team delivered. With the team’s input, ideas, and craftsmanship work, we feel our bathroom is truly unique and one-of-a-kind. We especially appreciated the open, on-going communication during the process and the genuine concern that we be completely satisfied with the end product. We had a kitchen remodel, fireplace make-over, French door installation, and cement patio converted to porcelain tile, then raised to a near-flush door entry. We were very pleased with the design team who helped with color and materials. Weekly meetings were held during renovation for planning updates. Ken and Chris were always on time, professional and honest in following through. Each team of subcontractors were also on time, polite, professional, and cleaned the area at day’s end. We were most pleased with all workmanship: plumbers, electricians, tile installation, and counter top. This top-quality renovation was completed on the date promised. Work was excellant. The old bathroom was updated and has been a great "place" for young grandkids baths. A cabinet had to be replaced, done quickly.

MAK did a Kitchen remodel for us in Fall of 2012 They were great to work with, stayed on budget, and creatively worked through the few issues that came up. Their were no surprises in the process, which is a great thing! Love the design of the cherry cabinet and the drawers for pots and pans. Space design was so good I still have empty drawers!

We hired MAK to remodel our bathroom after they helped discover the cause of a water leak that others had missed. The work included a new shower, bathtub, sinks, toilet, flooring and countertop. The design and execution of the project was first class. The choice of surfaces and fixtures were creative and elegant. We are very pleased. The project kept on the schedule they made and communication was very good. It was clear from the discussions among their team that they were very skilled and knowledgeable about their craft.

MAK Design and Build did an amazing job with our remodel! We remodeled the whole downstairs of our house (roughly 3000 sq feet) and are so happy in our new home. After interviewing 5-6 local and regional remodeling companies we knew that MAK was it. Our project consisted of the remodeling of an outdoor space into a breakfast nook, a complete kitchen overhaul, a very complicated stair structure that had to stay in its place but needed a lot of work, all new floors, all new paint, an office remodel, turning an old office into a pantry and incorporating that into our new kitchen/mudroom., and a master bedroom remodel. Throughout that whole process, Ken, the owner, Anthony, the designer and all their staff were great to work with. They were helpful, knowledgeable, hardworking, and pleasant. The project came in right on budget and right on time. They were always available to answer questions and help with picking out fixtures/tiles/paint and were quick to resolve any issues. MAK did a wonderful job on the kitchen remodel at my house. They developed a plan that included the ideas I had for opening the space and integrating it into the design of the house. It works beautifully .

We hired MAK to create a living space that accommodated both my parents in their convalescence. The remodel needed to allow for special circumstances and handicap accessibility throughout. We added 9 feet to the front bedroom, enlarged the connecting bathroom, added a large front porch, and added elegant storage space to the hallway. Ken Kirsch, Owner, and Anthony Anderson, Architect, met with us weekly to discuss the particulars of the project which helped keep the project on track. Our ideas were listened to and, where appropriate, integrated into the design. Anytime we had a question or needed to talk to someone, we were able to make that connection and get a resolve to our satisfaction. As with any remodel, there are unexpected situations that arise, but we always had communication with a member of the team who listened and acted on our concern. Whenever anyone was in the house working on the project there was a sense of respect for our space and we really never felt intruded upon. After the day's work was finished, they cleaned up the space before leaving for the day. The project came in on budget and there were no surprises - everything was communicated and discussed in a fair manner. This was not our first remodel which left a sour taste, so we went into this with some trepidation, but were soon reassured that we had hired a very competent, creative and professional team. We highly recommend MAK Design and Build.

We hired MAK Design + Build to remodel our house and we can't speak highly enough of them. They are a small company, so they are very hands-on and accessible. They are thoughtful, creative, intelligent, perceptive and extremely hard-working. The design they developed was perfectly suited to our taste and our needs and the guys who did the construction were outstanding craftsman. The same guys worked at our house every day so we became very comfortable with them. For other crafts like tile, stone and paint, they use the same subcontractors for many jobs so they have good relationships with them and a lot of confidence in their skills. The project management was also great; consistent, attentive and accessible. The office staff was friendly, professional, helpful and available whenever we needed anything. The project ended two years ago, so we have had two years to review MAK's work. We literally don't have a single complaint about the process or the product. If there were 10 stars, that would be our rating.
