This contemporary ADU was designed as a flexible living space that could evolve with the homeowners' changing priorities. During the design process, the vision for how the space would be used shifted, prompting the team to explore multiple configurations, ranging from a detached unit to an above-garage option, before ultimately selecting an attached layout that offered the best balance of privacy, flow, and architectural harmony. The final design integrates seamlessly with the existing home through the use of warm natural materials, clean lines, and intentional massing that respects the scale of the neighborhood.

Thoughtful interior details support a sense of openness within a compact footprint. Vaulted ceilings, clerestory windows, and a palette of natural textures create an airy atmosphere filled with soft, filtered light. Custom rift cut oak cabinetry, polished concrete floors, and a western red cedar ceiling bring refinement and warmth to the kitchen, dining, living, and bedroom spaces. A private entry alcove with a bright yellow door provides a cheerful, secluded welcome, while efficient planning ensures every square foot is highly functional. The result is a small home that feels expansive, calm, and deeply connected to its surroundings.
