Twenty five years of gracious livable homes characterized by simplicity of massing, harmonious proportion, and meticulous detail.

It was entirely by accident that I started a business designing new homes and large-scale additions. I had returned "briefly" to Birmingham in 1993 from the DC area. The opportunity to design a large home addition came around. A builder passed my name around. I soon got to design my first complete home makeover (see in Colonial Revival.) My name was passed around more. Soon another makeover- an impressive English home. I never made it back to DC because I kept getting nice home projects. Over twenty years later I am still designing homes.

What a circuitous route! As a kid I had wanted to be an Architect and wanted to design homes. I made my way to Auburn's Architecture program, but they discouraged us from residential work. Besides that I kept flunking calculus. I wound up in their nationally recognized interior design program, receiving a degree in Interior Design from Auburn’s School of Architecture.

In Washington DC, I led project teams in developing large-scale commercial spaces such as law offices and associations in new office buildings- projects ranging from 15,000 to 150,000 square feet. I held primary responsibility for space planning, architectural detailing, design of custom furnishings, and selection of finishes. It was my background in space planning and interior architectural detailing that allowed me to transpose my skills into the design of homes.

So I came back to what I had wanted to do when I first went to Auburn. It just took a while to get here. Along the way, I collected a lot of knowledge and skill. I am often told that one of the best skills I learned was how to work with people effectively. I invite total participation in the design process, engaging clients by offering numerous ideas rather than one. We always find that those ideas generate more ideas- that is what the design process is all about.

My basic philosophy is that each home fulfills my clients’ lifestyle, not mine. How important to listen. How important to provide solutions. How important to design a home that each family will love for a generation and more.
