Marks-Woods Construction Services, LLC

When my wife Carmen and I were looking to renovate, we did our research. One of the builders that came highly recommended was Marks Woods. After seeing the quality craftsmanship and design of Marks Woods, we decided to meet with Greg. When looking at our property and consulting it was apparent there were 3 different options: 1. complete interior gut renovation and change the layout 2. Addition or rebuild 3. Sell and purchase a new property I gained an enormous amount of respect when Greg recommended option 3 when considering return on investment and costs associated with a difficult layout. We ended up selling and buying a new home that we are very happy with. Although we did not end up using Marks Woods, I would highly recommend them due to their integrity, expertise and experience. As mentioned, I am aware of others that have had successful projects and I can also confidently recommend Marks Woods for their performance and design as well.

When we decided to build an ADU, we had no idea where to start, but working with Marks-Woods Construction was the best choice we could have made. Greg Marks, one of the owners, walked us through what was and wasn't possible with the City of Alexandria's zoning requirements, and explained every step clearly — a real relief for our first big construction project. His brother Drew Marks, our project manager, visited the site daily, kept everything on schedule, and always kept us in the loop. He responded quickly to every question, and his patience was remarkable. The crew was respectful and left the worksite tidy every day. Now that it's finished, we couldn't be happier. The ADU is beautiful and incredibly functional, and details like the custom cabinetry and thoughtful layout show the care they put into their work. If you're looking for a team that truly cares about their clients and delivers quality, Greg and his crew are the way to go.

I've known Greg Marks for many years and have had the opportunity to see many of the renovation projects completed by Marks-Woods Construction. The quality of the workmanship is consistently outstanding, particularly on the luxury homes and historic properties they've renovated throughout Old Town Alexandria. It's obvious that Greg and his brother take tremendous pride in their work and have built a strong reputation over many years in the business. I've also discussed a future bathroom renovation with Greg and was impressed by the level of detail, professionalism, and transparency throughout the planning process. Their in-house design capabilities, experienced field operations, and impressive portfolio have made Marks-Woods my leading choice as I plan my own project for 2027. What stands out most to me is Greg's professionalism and integrity. My personal experience with him has always been that he's responsive, knowledgeable, and genuinely committed to doing things the right way. Based on everything I've observed over the years, I would feel very comfortable recommending Marks-Woods Construction to anyone considering a high-quality home renovation.

Marks Woods construction has provided services for us over the years, including two very large remodeling projects which included a new master suite off the back, an entire kitchen renovation and a new bonus room off the back. Greg and Drew were excellent communicators and had great ideas. We were very impressed with their level of professionalism and their ability to stick to a schedule and the budget. They did excellent work, and my wife and I were very pleased with the results. We definitely recommend them.

We recently hired Marks-Woods Construction to completely remodel four bathrooms in our home, and we couldn't be happier with the results. From the initial planning through the final walkthrough, the entire team was professional, organized, and committed to delivering exceptional craftsmanship. One of the things that really set Marks-Woods Construction apart was their guidance during the design process. They helped us select materials that matched our style and budget, developed all of the permit plans, and made what could have been an overwhelming renovation feel straightforward and well-managed. Because we were remodeling four bathrooms, it was essential that the work be phased so our family would always have a functioning bathroom. Marks-Woods Construction accommodated this request without any additional charge, which demonstrated their flexibility and commitment to customer satisfaction. Our primary point of contact throughout construction were the actual owners of the company. They were incredibly knowledgeable, responsive, and easy to work with. They kept us informed throughout the project, answered our questions promptly, and made sure every detail was completed to a high standard. The quality of the workmanship exceeded our expectations, and each bathroom turned out beautifully. The project stayed organized, communication was excellent, and the entire team treated our home with respect. If you're looking for a reliable contractor for a bathroom remodel, bathroom renovation, or a full home remodeling project, we highly recommend Marks-Woods Construction. Their professionalism, expertise, attention to detail, and customer-focused approach made this one of the best renovation experiences we've had. We would absolutely hire them again for future projects.

Mark’s Woods Construction can make your kitchen remodel a smooth and enjoyable experience from start to finish. The entire process is easy, well organized, and they complete with great attention to detail. They took the time to explain every step, answered all of our questions, and made sure we understood what to expect throughout the project. That level of communication gave us confidence from day one. The finished kitchen looks fantastic, and we are very happy with the quality of the workmanship. If you’re looking for a contractor who is honest, knowledgeable, and easy to work with, I highly recommend Mark’s Woods and Construction. In our experience, Marks-Woods Construction LLC are dangerous and dishonest contractors. I won’t bury the lede: Marks-Woods lit our house on fire and abandoned it to burn, cut a live 240 volt wire and left it exposed in our yard where children play, mis-wired an outlet so that it threw sparks and molten copper onto our attic insulation, and allowed a gas leak to persist in our occupied house for at least a month. They exceeded their three-month contracted timeline by five months and left the project incomplete. If those facts are not enough to convince you of their unsuitability to earn your business, please continue reading. The red flags came early and often: Marks-Woods demanded a HUGE down payment to begin work, which began later than promised and faced delays from the outset. Workers would show up infrequently (initially less than 60% of the time) and do very little work (for example, we caught them napping in our garage, watching videos, and playing with paper airplanes). Marks-Woods’ work failed and continues to fail Fairfax County inspections (our deck for example, was built at great expense and not even remotely to code) and of hit-or-miss quality (we could not confirm some of their subcontractors’ licenses either). They wasted time and resources via sloppy workmanship (e.g., leaky roof, broken tiles, unlevel floors), failing to follow building plans correctly, and misordering supplies etc. etc. Marks-Woods’ communication was erratic and inaccurate regarding scheduling, work to be done, work completed, and invoicing. They unilaterally (and likely illegally) demanded changes in our payment terms in violation of the contract and created false invoices requesting payment multiple times for the same line items while sprinkling payments among various unrelated line items to help their “cash flow”. I could continue our litany of documented complaints ad nauseum, and appreciate your reading this far. My only goal is to spare other homeowners from the financial and emotional trauma our family suffered at the hands of Marks-Woods; avoid them: they do not deserve your or anyone else’s business.

My husband and I worked with Marks-Woods in 2020. They completed a large interior renovation that included creating an open concept kitchen/living/dining room area and building a new powder room on the first floor and updating our primary bath on the second floor. We were super impressed with Greg when we met with him for our proposal meeting. The design manager kept us in the loop during the entire pre-design process and the project manager was always available to answer questions when they arose during construction. We had a slight delay due to a tile we loved being discontinued, but they were quick to select alternatives that we actually ended up liking even better. They did a great job and I am recommending them to all my friends and neighbors.

Marks-Woods did a fantastic job on our recent home renovation project! This is the second remodel we've done on our home. We went with a smaller, less expensive company the first time around and needless to say, we got what we paid for. For our second remodel, we refused to go through the same headaches and looked for a full service general contractor. We got proposals from several companies, but none of them compared to the level of detail we received from Marks-Woods. That level of detail continued throughout the whole project. Their interior designers did a great job selecting materials that reflected my aesthetic. They showed me exactly what it would look like in detailed drawings and renderings. The construction team brought their design to life down to the smallest detail. Drew was a great Project Manager and kept us in the loop the entire time. We couldn't be happier with the final result and will use them again for any future projects!!

Marks-Woods Construction just finished a multi-part project on our home including a full kitchen remodel, adding a full bath and storage area to our basement, a mudroom addition and a portico. The design process at the beginning helped to expand on our initial ideas and Danielle was great at offering suggestions that we never would have thought of. This step saved us time and helped us avoid regrets we would have had without having Danielle's expertise. Greg did a nice job working though the architectural details and permitting. Our project manager was Drew and he was great to work with throughout the entire process. We had an issue with our backslash and he worked with the supplier to replace it with something more in line with our expectations. Despite a variety of projects, we had a consistent crew with dependable, courteous workers who always created a great end product and kept work areas clean. We wouldn't hesitate to use them again for future renovations.

We just finished a large remodel with Marks-Woods, including a new master suite/garage addition, kitchen expansion/renovation, and multiple other updates. It was basically a whole house remodel. We are thrilled with our choice to work with Marks-Woods! They were wonderful to work with, and gave us a finished product that is just spectacular (on schedule, no less). Greg was great about coordinating with our architect during the initial design phase, and helping us know what set their company apart. The designers were easy to work with, open to my ideas, and brought great ideas to the table. Drew was our project manager, and we feel like he's the best in the business. He communicates clearly, listens to concerns, keeps the work moving forward, and knows his stuff. Unexpected things will always come up in construction, but how your contractor handles those things, is the real hallmark of a great company. Drew and his guys were amazing at dealing with those things. They made sure I was 1000% happy with the work. They went to bat for us when a supplier was giving us issues, and always went the extra mile to make sure our project would be top notch. Our house is incredible, and we would absolutely go to Marks-Woods again in the future for any projects. Can't recommend them highly enough!

Really enjoyed working with all employees. From the interior designers, architect, project managers, and very involved owners. Locally owned and operated company with ethical, customer service concentrated mentality. They did an excellent job with my projects.
