My builder uses Houzz Pro to plan the timeline and give detailed estimates and daily updates with photos of progress, and provide invoices at pre-agreed key points in the build. This made the whole experience much more efficient and stress-free.

About Us

JDS Designs, INC is a leading design firm operating in the Washington area since 1984. David A. Herchik, president, his partner, Richard J Looman, and Associate Nicholas Beck have created a most unique firm committed to glamour and luxury as defined by each individual client. JDS owns and operates its own workroom, providing clients with a full range of in house custom window treatment fabrication. In addition to a strong Washington presence, JDS caters to its growing list of clientele throughout the United States. Whether a stately family home, beach retreat, urban pied-a-terre or a relaxed country cottage , Our goal is to establish a rapport with clients that will bring their dreams to life. Founder, David Herchik describes himself as one of those “privileged people with an unquenchable passion for design.” For more than 30 years, Herchik has been a member of the Washington design community, and he continues to enjoy every minute of it. Herchik and his team have been featured on HGTV’s “Interiors by Design” with Chris Madden and have been published in The Washington Post, The Washingtonian, Architectural Digest, Traditional Home, Romantic Homes, Museum and Arts, Luxury Homes, Better Homes and Gardens, Brunschwig & Fils Style and Brunschwig & Fils Up Close, and most recently Simply Buckhead. JDS Designs has participated in nine area Decorator Show Houses supporting the Women’s Committee for the National Symphony Orchestra, the Baltimore Symphony, and Pediatric Aids and is also a supporter of the Mount Vernon Historical Society. In 2006 Herchik collaborated with the Four Seasons Hotel Washington, the Washington Design Center and the Georgetown Business Improvement District to launch a holiday design extravaganza – the Georgetown Jingle- to raise money for pediatric cancer programs in the DC metro area. Herchik and his team received the 2007 Benefactor of the Year award from Georgetown University Hospital in recognition of their extraordinary contributions to support their pediatric oncology programs. In 2003, he was inducted into the Washington Design Center Hall of Fame. It's a pleasure working with Nick at JDS. We have been redesigning each room in our home. He listens to my ideas and works with my style and has transformed several rooms in my home beautifully. I look forward to what he has in mind as we continue to work together.

We have been clients of JDS Designs for over 25 years. We rely on their expertise, creativity and willingness to accommodate changing tastes and budget constraints. I love that the design always incorporates something unexpected which we appreciate. JDS has designed all the major rooms in our home, some more than once. We have never been disappointed and over time have reduced our "creative input" as we became comfortable that we would love the finished product! Love working with them! Project date refers to last project, a restyle of living room space.

I enjoyed working with JDS Designs, my primary designer was Nick Beck and initially David the other designer was available to help. They both help us select things like lighting, paint, and tiles, which was outside of the agreement they had with us, and did an amazing job. They were always on time and within budget. Highly professional. They always stand by their work. When I had problem with the wall paper 3 years later, Nick came to see the problem and immediately arranged for the people who installed it in the first place to come and fix it without any charge to us, including for his own time. There were many times I will ask Nick for advice like wall hanging, created the time to come and help and had resources to come and hang them for me. I love love JDS and I love my designer Nick. Anyone who has been at our house is always blown away by the professional job that was done. Thanks Guys, thanks Nick. Azzi Abraham

I have been relying on JDS Designs for many years and have always been delighted by their fresh and beautiful ideas and highly imaginative approach to color and furnishings. They completely decorated our whole house when we moved in decades ago, and as our family needs have changed over the years, they have redone some spaces. What is remarkable, however, is how very well their decor has stood the test of time. We have rooms they decorated 20 years ago in which neither they nor I would change a thing! David Herchik is also a master at maximizing the space he is designing by turning flaws into advantages. In our dining room, for instance, he surprised me by turning a ceiling I thought too low into an unusual focal point by the ingenious way he had finished. Yet he is respectful of budget considerations and practical needs and never advises getting rid of something just for the sake of changing things. JDS makes every decorating project fun and interesting, and on a personal level, they are collegial, helpful, and understanding.

I loved working with JDS Designs!! They worked with us on two houses and the results were fantastic. They always listened to what our objectives were and then added their unique twist which was amazing. They worked within the budget we outlined and were always timely and efficient. Their wealth of craftspeople is endless; we had handmade beds made from a company in Minnesota which were perfect in our house in Montana, and they were able to beautifully revive a set of old log bar stools that were too short and in desperate need of recovering to absolute perfection. They are professional and incredibly fun to work with!!

JDS Designs was great to work with on redecorating my old and new condo. The decor was beautiful and exactly what I wanted and within my budget. They were responsive to all my requests and very professional and easy to work with.
