I met with Jim over the phone. We were not a good fit for our scope of work. However, Jim provided excellent guidance and pro tips to help us with our project.

My wife and I hired October 5 to remodel our kitchen and bathroom, and we are so happy we did! Jim was extremely knowledgeable and was it clear that he was passionate about our project. He kept us informed along the way and there were no surprise costs or delays. We worked with Jim Brophy from October 5 to remodel our home. The project included rebuilding our kitchen - new cabinets (Crystal Cabinets), under-cabinet lighting, countertops, tile, and appliances; wall-to-wall dining room cabinets, 1,500 sqft flooring (24”x48” tile), and bathroom remodel with curbless walk-in shower. Jim’s attention to detail and project execution far exceeds what you would expect from a contractor. The October 5 design build team were wonderful to work with on our first-floor remodel and expansion. It’s a collaborative approach, with October 5 shepherding the process. Jim and the design team carefully listened to our ideas, thoughts, desires, and visions; they have an amazing talent for extracting exactly what we were looking for. Jim told me early on in the process, “If it’s not a hell yes, what is it?” He could tell when I was wavering or in doubt on certain selections, and carefully focused me back to my vision. Regular design meeting kept us well informed, and positioned us in the driver’s seat. Though October 5 steered the design process, guided us on material selections, kept a tight reign on the budget, and put all the piece together for the build, it was our goals, visions, and designs they successfully extracted from us. I don’t know how Jim did it, but this is exactly what we wanted, but didn’t how to communicate.

This will be our second design build construction project with October 5! 12 years ago, they completed a beautiful remodel of our home, which is too big for us as our grown children out on their own. We purchased a new home closer to town, and will again be going to October 5 for the remodel. We intend to carry over the design details October 5 is known for and executed in our previous home. We follow the October 5 construction projects in our neighborhood, and are excited to work with them again!

Exceptionally high quality work. Worked with me extensively from initial design (with many changes along the way) to completion ON TIME AND ON BUDGET! We hired October 5 Fine Home Builders for our home expansion and remodel. It is their focus on symmetry and balance, their process of subtraction, and fanatical attention to detail that hooked us. I first encountered October 5 Fine Home Builders at an open house. The contemporary kitchen design really struck a chord with us; we must have spent 2 hours at the open house speaking with Chuck. After some thought, we decided it was time to redo our kitchen, and Chuck’s attitude and style meshed perfectly with ours. His attention to detail was stunning. Originally constructed in 1953, our home had not undergone any remodeling or updating. During construction, the house was all but demolished - leaving only the rough framing and portions of the exterior stucco and siding. Earthquake updates, 200 amp electrical service, beefed-up insulation, plumbing, heating and air-conditioning, smooth drywall, wide-plank flooring, bathrooms, kitchen, and dual-glazed windows supported the bulk of the project, which lasted 4 ½ months.
