My wife and I resided in Illinois for a decade before acquiring a lot in Perquimans County, NC, with plans to build our retirement home. We engaged an architect, Paul Henriques, who, after assessing the site, agreed to construct our home. Construction began in September 2008, and by July 2009, the project was completed in an impressive 10-month timeframe, notably faster than other builders in the community. Throughout the process, Paul maintained open communication, promptly addressing questions and presenting innovative solutions. Notably, he designed a striking stairway, overlooking wetlands, featuring solid maple treads, aluminum rails, and stainless-steel cables. Another challenge involved offsetting the master bedroom wing by 17 degrees, requiring intricate structural work, which Paul executed with ease. Emphasizing environmental friendliness, Paul made thoughtful material selections, such as bamboo flooring and ipe decks. In the absence of details for the screened porch, he collaborated with us to create a remarkable space using ipe flooring, brass screens, and Oregon pine lumber. Capitalizing on the surrounding wetlands, Paul recommended and installed a geothermal HVAC system, harnessing the available water supply. Adhering to Outer Banks (OBX) standards for hurricane resilience, the entire house was constructed with OBX-approved materials. Paul's familiarity with OBX standards and his innovative touches, exceeding architectural plans, contributed to an exceptional finished product that surpassed our expectations. We are thrilled with the results and highly recommend Paul for his commitment to quality and collaborative approach.
