Robert Hutchison is an internationally recognized architect that we in Seattle are proud to call our own. All the staff at Quantum are very familiar with his work and have enjoyed hand crafting his visions for over a decade. Robert continues now with his firm moving forward with ever increasing innovation and commitment to leading edge design.

We recently completed an interesting project with Rob. It was a pleasure working with someone that has his level of experience, professionalism, and technical skill. All of that aside, it is simply his knack for dreaming up great spaces that drew us to wanting to work with him. He's a great collaborator, and a pleasure to work with.

We have been working with Rob Hutchison for the last year on our new house project. When looking for an architect we looked for someone who had a great sense of design, was good problem solver and also a had good personal skills to work with us throughout the process as well as work well with the General Contractor. We also had a small challenging lot and a tight budget to add to the mix. Rob has been great to work with. Rob listened closely to our wants and needs as well as our ideas. He has created a design that is an expression of our tastes and life style. We love our house.

We've worked with Rob for about fifteen years on five projects that ranged from high six figures and very challenging topography (new construction; wonderful solutions under demanding constraints); several remodels whose scopes varied from small to large, in which he again managed constraints and aesthetics artfully; a unique, delightful outbuilding folly that turned out to be a pragmatic space as well; and an extensive renovation of a 100 yr-old greystone row house - a renewal that stayed true to the original Victorian design while dramatically opening things up. Thinking about all the projects he's done for us, he demonstrates ability to grasp essence that spans Post-Modern, Mid-Century Modern, and Victorian brilliantly, and that's just us. Clear vision, careful execution, and great intuition about contractors - pay attention to what he says about them!

Rob has the rare combination of technical savvy, aesthetic sophistication and wonderful people skills. We keep going back to Rob for designs because we not only end up adding beauty to our environment but also some unexpected element that ends up being right on. And we all have a lot of fun in the process.

We hired Robert with a difficult brief, namely design a modern contemporary home for us to a strict budget located in a temperate rain forest with many environmental and site issues. The process of working through the design was excellent with Robert and his staff providing advise and options on the many choices we had to make. The resulting home is beautiful and full of light . Light was important to us in the gloomy PNW winter and one of the reasons we hired Robert based upon his portfolio. We were not disappointed. The resulting design was intelligent, innovative and enabled us to meet our budget while still creating something of beauty.
