Founded in 1999, the firm's work focuses on residential projects, including additions, renovations, new homes, multi family housing and mixed use. Projects have also included yoga studios, rock climbing gyms, a corporate retreat in Shanghai, China and various commercial projects. Phil Rossington was the right choice for our home renovation project, which wrapped up in 2023. We found Phil after having spent quite a bit of time with another architect and being disappointed with her resistance to some of our key preferences. We checked out Phil’s online portfolio before contacting him and saw that it included a variety of attractive elements spread across several different projects we thought could be adapted for our project. After our first meeting with Phil, we hired him to take over our project, which was still in the schematic design phase. His extensive experience in San Francisco was an important consideration, but the deciding factor was Phil’s communication style. During the whole journey through design, permitting, bidding, and construction, Phil contributed creative ideas that we incorporated to very good effect. He dove deeply into materials selection and introduced us to suppliers we hadn’t discovered on our own ever after countless hours of online search. Critically, when we hit him with unconventional requests, Phil’s patient, open, positive, thoughtful responses drove us toward jointly agreeing how best to satisfy them. We interviewed four contractors introduced by Phil, two of whom he had worked with previously on completed projects. We hired one of the two others, who turned out to be a solid professional. Phil’s heavy engagement during construction helped immensely in getting the best quality out of the contractor. Our house isn’t large, but the renovation was fairly extensive — five walls were moved or removed, and all electrical, plumbing, flooring, and drywall was replaced. We hired Phil as our architect on a large scale remodel and he completely reimagined the space. It was a challenging footprint to work with but his vision transformed our home and we are thrilled with the results! He was masterful in incorporating our needs while bringing innovative ideas and cool design elements we would never have thought of but absolutely love. He is thoughtful in his design choices and created a home that feels unique and comfortable. Phil felt like our trusted advisor helping us navigate the complexities of our remodel. He was involved every step of the way, working closely with the city, the contractors, sub contractors, etc. We really appreciated leaning on his expertise and all the time he spent with us to explain and guide the many decisions we made during the process. He has incredible attention to detail and we are so grateful for the beautiful home he created for our family. He is professional, trustworthy, and a joy to work with. We worked with Rossington Architecture on a major, down-to-the-studs remodel. It didn't start out that way, but we encountered the nightmare scenario where we opened a wall, found a million issues, and realized we had to do a major gut job for safety reasons. New foundation, effectively tearing out an entire floor, black mold. Anything that could go wrong, did. Even within that nightmare situation, everything that could go RIGHT with Rossington Architecture went right. We got incredible service, a gorgeous design (that ended up being featured in some design mags!), a really considered thought partner who pushed back (in the best way) when needed, but also deeply heard us and was able to pull out what we MEANT from the often garbled ways we SAID it. Our house is beautiful and he pushed for so many smart design choices that we still marvel about to this day. All the things we love most about our new & improved house came from his design mind. He was an absolute pleasure to work with and he will absolutely be the person we call for our next project. Phil is the eye of every storm and made a difficult process somehow feel good.

What was unexpected was the amount of help that we received from Phil at the onset of the project--without him we would never have been able to pull this off. This ranged from helping us find a great contractor to helping us deal with those scary moments that come with every big project.

Phil is a pleasure to work with - thoughtful, thorough and inventive. We hired Phil to do a top to bottom remodel of our 1906 arts and crafts San Francisco home. The vision was to update key living areas (kitchen, master bedroom) in a way that doesn't clash with the rest of the house. The best complement I can give him is that I didn't realize what a great job he had done until we moved into our newly remodeled home and experienced how wonderfully the new spaces worked and how well they harmonized with the parts of the house we had always loved. Highly recommended!

We hired Phil to design our home from scratch. Not only did he incorporate all of our needs and wants, he thought of so many additional, wonderful details that have made our new home an amazing, comfortable place to raise our family. We couldn’t be happier with the results. He was heavily involved from the first meeting where we conveyed our thoughts to the very end as the contractor and landscaper worked on the finishing details. Phil patiently went back-and-forth with us as we worked to finalize the plans. He helped us navigate the city/planning department, find engineers (civil, soil, etc.), and most importantly he was onsite to work closely with our contractor throughout the entire build to ensure the work was performed to our specifications. His attention to detail cannot be overstated. Phil is a wonderful, honest professional who we would highly recommend.

Phil has designed the last two homes I lived in. The first one I purchased directly from the contractor and loved Phil's design and sense of space. The second home he designed for me was a total build from the ground up of a 2 unit building in SF that was destroyed in a fire. I wanted to go in a different direction on this one and Phil came up with an amazing design. He is awesome to deal with and very straightforward. He made great suggestions some I listened to some I did not. To be honest most of the ones I didn't listen to I now regret. I didn't have the vision he had and wish I had been more open minded. I honestly cant say enough about the guy he is great

Phil has done several jobs for us, most recently a laundry room/pantry and backyard remodel. He created a combo grill enclosure and bench that we absolutely love. It keeps the wind at bay and is a great place for guests (or my husband) to sit and have a cocktail while I grill. Phil is very good at "seeing" space. He has lots of great ideas and is able to incorporate function and design even in small spaces. I highly recommend both Phil and his team.
