Our policy is to only give free estimates if the client brings in a dimensioned floor plan with a rough idea of the kitchen layout desired. We do not provide free design, but base out design fees on the cabinetry budget for the project. Thus it is helpful to us (and to the customer) to establish a preliminary budget range as soon as possible. This helps avoid the very scenario Mr. Cunningham is complaining about; where we have to judge by sight what people will choose to afford -- I don't want to design something that the customer does not want to pay for and conversely, I don't want to not give someone the best that they can have. That's why we try to get the nasty money discussion on the table up front even though it is not nearly as fun a dreaming about the new kitchen.
I am very sorry that they are unhappy, but I don't know if we were the right ones for their project.
Sincerely, Sarah Day

The owners (particularly the husband) pointed out how in their original tract house kitchen, you could not open the dishwasher and the refrigerator at the same time and the dishwasher blocked the entrance into the kitchen. The peninsula was at a weird angle, very awkward looking, and the sink was on that angle, instead of being in front of the window, where it should have been. It created a space in the far corner that they complained was "useless", (too small and awkward for a table), where we added a built-in desk, also facing out another window, making a pleasant place to work. There is more counter space than before (I have never heard of anyone complaining about too much counter space), and the dishwasher no longer obstructs traffic flow.
We do not even claim to provide interior design services, so it seems very unfair to give us a miserable rating because they chose colors on their own that they are not happy with now....We have displays of cabinetry in both the white (which she claims we talked her out of...??...), and the "candlelight" (which is what she purchased), so she was able to view both colors in large areas. We do not force people to buy any certain color as color is so subjective - we just offer many choices and let them decide.
We did not sell them the flooring, but I am thinking that there may be a way to tone down the "pink" in it if they were to contact whoever they bought it from, assuming it is real stone. What is strange is that the flooring we actually show with the "candlelight" cabinets in our showroom has more of the golden tones like their counter top, so had they gone with our choice, they would have had a better result in our opinion. It is always possible with natural stone, that they received a batch that did not match their sample.... Another thing that is very strange about this is that they really liked the contractor I found for them, and he told me they were very happy and that the kitchen turned out great - one of the best he has seen! Anyway, I am hoping they will contact whoever they bought the floor from and get them to tone down the pink, and I think they will be much happier. I think the counter looks great with the cabinets - it has the "garnet" flecks that pick up the "candlelight" red tones... It is a great looking kitchen, other than the pinkish floor!
Please see the "before and after" plans and photos below and judge for yourself. (they can be enlarged by holding your mouse over each). Also, we have told many of our devoted customers about this post and they are flabbergasted because they know we do not "talk people into anything they don't want". This complaining client borrowed the door sample in the "candlelight" color (one of our top sellers) for weeks before ordering. Had she told us she wanted white at the time of order, we certainly would have obliged, and we have lots of white kitchens in our repertoire!
