Portland Stair Company

If you're looking for a top-notch stair build or remodel, Shane and Gage are your guys. They tore down and rebuilt our late 90s suburban stair rails & posts, curb, and wall cap with maple rails and horizontal metal balusters, giving our staircase a modern look bringing it into the 21st century. The shadow cap on the posts and half wall provide a clean modern look. The shadow cap on both sides of the stair curb was a great touch! Family and friends can't say enough good things about our project turned out. Working with Portland Stair Company was a pleasure. The whole process was straightforward with no surprises. The project was started and completed on time and their work was immaculate with everything not getting touched being protected. As a woodworker myself, I can appreciate their workmanship and attention to detail. This kind of craftsmanship does not come cheap. The staircase will most definitely last longer than us. Keep looking if you want inexpensive. If you want the best, give them a call.

I highly recommend Portland Stair Company if you're needing a high-quality staircase to be designed and built by local craftsmen. Our staircase was damaged by a tree that fell during a bad storm and Shane, and his crew were extremely helpful in the design and installation of a beautiful new staircase for our home. After reviewing his photos, we asked him to help us come up with a simple but elegant design to match the new design for the interior of the house. He worked with our designer to come up with a beautiful staircase that became the focal point of our foyer. They also corrected the previous installation to make the stairs safer and function better. The quality of their craftsmanship was exceptional and showed in the finished project. Their attention to detail was impressive and they were great to work with as well. They provided a great experience, and the end result exceeded our expectations. Highly recommended!

These guys did a fantastic job replacing my 1970's stair railing. Skilled craftsmanship and dedication to the project was apparent and greatly appreciated. Kelly D.

Shane and Dave did a wonderful job on our project - replacement of a stairway guardrail and two handrails. Their craftsmanship was first rate, they communicated well, and they did the job promptly at a reasonable cost. I'm happy to recommend them to others.

I needed a company to remodel stairs at a clients 1930's house and the Portland Stair Company and I asked three professional contracting companies and all three recommended them. They were very professional, communication was great and their work was exceptional. The new railings still fits with the aesthetics of the home. The clients are very happy with their stair railings that are to code and very stable. I will recommend Portland Stair Company.

Shane and Gage were amazing to work with from start to finish. High level of craftsmanship and attention to detail.

Portland Stair Company-Shane and Gage-are TRUE PROFESSIONALS!! Absolutely PHENOMENAL from start to finish. My husband and I met with Shane earlier this year and when we were finally (financially) able, we hired Portland Stair Company to complete the job. Shane communicated well by email and phone, and when we met with him in our home prior to signing the contract, he explained what we should expect, which included everything from the details of the project to their "workshop" set up area and how they would clean up each day prior to the end of work. Our project included removing our outdated 80's stair railing so we could give it back to them, ha ha, and installing modern horizontal railing and adding railing where there was none, making for safer stairs. We were provided a timeline and they exceeded their timeline by completing much sooner. We've had plenty of workers in our home, but these two guys are galaxies way above the rest! We were VERY impressed and pleasantly surprised when they covered and ensured our furniture/items near the staircase was not covered in debris or damaged. This is something you would typically expect but workers we've had before did not and it was a very time-consuming cleanup project for us. We also went with their recommendation for painters (Taylor Painting, Inc), which requires a specialized paint so as to not easily tarnish due to skin oils, etc. Justin from Taylor Painting was also just as AMAZING! Another TRUE PROFESSIONAL and SUPERIOR quality of work, taking special care of our surrounding furniture/items and a perfect cleanup both days. Justin was also personable and didn't make us feel uncomfortable while he worked in our home. All of them are extremely knowledgeable about this precise type of work and their workmanship is SUPERIOR. They were very respectful while working in our home and even ensured our new young kitty did not escape when they had to open the door periodically. In fact, our kitty felt so comfortable he "hung out" with Gage and Justin, fascinated by the work, lol! What initially caught my attention was the tagline for Portland Stair Company: "If you think a professional is expensive, wait till you hire an amateur" -Red Adair, Oil well firefighter We are SO glad we went with a company who specializes in this process instead of just a general contractor or someone who thinks they are the jack of all trades--hence the statement above. Pricing for the stair railing and painting (our project was a total of 5 days) was incredibly reasonable, especially with the rising inflation and high costs of anything these days. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO ANYONE REPAIRING, REMODELING, INSTALLING OR ADDING STAIR RAILING. A++ The first 3 pics are BEFORE the stair railing remodel and the last 3 pics are AFTER the stair railing remodel.

Shane and Gage were the best guys to work with! We just remodeled our home and not one other contractor showed up like these guys did, with professionalism, cleanliness, and high quality work. Plus they communicated perfectly. I can't say enough about how great these guys are to work with. Its not easy finding good contractors, but Portland Stair Company is top notch and you will be so pleased with their work!

Our experience with Portland Stair was superb. Workmanship was top notch with innovative solutions implemented for a couple of tricky areas (thank you, Gage). Communications were clear and forthright (thank you, Shane); subcontractors arrived as scheduled. The job site was cleaned daily and the stairs were usable throughout the weeks long project. When they exited their makeshift shop in my garage at the end of the project, the place had never been so clean. My only regret - we have but one stairway for them to renovate.

An excellent job and we highly recommend them! I contacted Portland Stair Company when we wanted to include our staircase in the remodel of our 1978 townhome. The original was covered in drywall with carpet on the stairs going up to the second floor. Shane’s employee, Gage, removed the original staircase and replaced it with a beautiful open oak staircase. He also did an excellent job on the cubby hole/dog house we requested for our incoming puppy. The quality of their work was outstanding and confirmed that the replacement of our staircase by the Portland Stair Company is the best decision made in our remodeling. Before and after photos are included below.

Shane & Gage redesigned our foyer stairs. They did an incredible job! They are so meticulous ... their work was perfect.

I couldn't be happier with our beautiful new staircase. It transforms our entire home. Shane is very responsive and helpful. They work quickly and keep their work area clean. Their attention to detail is superb! I will be recommending them to friends and clients.
