I hired Steel Construction and Patterson Smith to build my dream house. I have just moved in after a two-year project, as it was a major renovation and really became more of a tear-down rebuild. From the beginning I had the pleasure of working with the group: Being such a big project you cannot help but go into it w/some stress and anxiety! However that was short lived as they made me feel very comfortable quickly. John & Chapman: They are very honest: That is #1! Then the attentiveness and concern for the budget was consistently there. Then, over time I realized that this company surrounds themselves with nothing but the best workers: The craftsmanship, the workmanship, the attitudes, the punctuality, and everything in between was excellent. I now realize as I walk through the house, all of the attention to detail and the quality of the job was just beyond my wildest expectations. Our dream house : 100% success. I would highly recommend this firm!

Chapman and the team at Patterson & Smith were wonderful to work with. We bought a house built in the early 90's that needed a lot of updating. Chapman was excellent at using the space we had in creative ways to make sure we maximized our renovation while keeping to the features and theme of the original house. Everything was completed on time and to budget. We lived in the house while we gutted a master bathroom, finished a basement and updated a fireplace and living room. The team that worked at the house was extremely professional and polite. We didn't even know they were there. They worked quickly and efficiently and the finished product is beyond our wildest dreams. We look forward to having them complete the remainder of jobs that we have to complete.

When we bought our home, it was with the intention of a long-term construction and renovation project that would grow with our family and transition us from seasonal home owners to full-time residents. In addition, we needed to create a dynamic, functional home with little kids and still have a relevant layout and design when our kids are older. Patterson & Smith has been with us all along and I cannot say enough how their staff, design, subcontractors are first rate all the way. Our needs included adding a 3-season porch, renovating 2 bathrooms, replacing ALL the windows and trim, adding two front porches and ultimately altering the exterior of our home from "faux farmhouse" to "mountain house." We spaced this out over two years. They intuitively understood our need to be environmentally-conscious, our design-aesthetic and equally important, our need to stay on budget. I look forward to Phase 3 of our home reno project!

Shap Smith and his crew from Patterson and Smith did the complete remodel of our house in Stowe Vermont. We could not have been happier with the level of skills and professionalism of each of the people we worked with. We were listened to and consulted each step along the way and all was done so that the result was exactly what we had hoped for. We love our house and are so pleased to have worked with Shap and his team.

Projects completed on several porches as a preface to my daughter's wedding in addition to clapboard replacements on exterior walls which were done to our complete satisfaction. The employees are neat and tidy (very important for us as we have clients walking by on a daily basis.) This project was prefaced by many other projects which were equally done with perfection and attention to detail.

Their attention to every detail is what makes them a great contractor to work with. Through every phase of construction they are proactive in suggesting methods to reduce cost as well as increase quality. Cleve Patterson and Shap Smith oversaw the building of an extensive renovation of our home. I was dreading the whole construction process, having read "House" by Tracy Kidder many years ago. To my delight, Cleve, Shap, the foreman Roger and the builders made the whole experience fun and exciting. Even the billing guy, Ed I. was great! When the addition was finished, I felt sad at their leaving. The craftsmanship of Patterson & Smith's work is amazing. Now, after seven years of sub-zero winters and hot, humid summers, even the three-season porch looks brand new. Their cost was somewhat higher than competitive contractor bids, however, the quality of their work definitely made this difference worthwhile. I highly recommend Patterson & Smith for all construction projects, from small renovations to large houses.

Patterson and Smith did expansion and renovation of existing house. We found the crew to be professional and experienced. The project manager's input throughout the project was most valuable. We are very pleased with the results.

Patterson & Smith was our general contractor on the renovation of our vacation home in Stowe VT. Shap Smith led his team and a few subcontractors on a complete kitchen remodel, bath remodel, addition of a new mud room, floor refinishing, painting interior / exterior and new roof.
