When we moved last year from our home in Ridgewood we were sad to leave behind all of the remodeling that made our place so beautiful, comfortable & functional … and simply just “ours” with 30+ years of family memories. Moving into our new townhome we knew right away that we needed to renovate to make it “ours” but we were concerned that we would not be able to find someone that we could work with to accomplish turning someone else’s home into ours. But whether by luck or by fate … we connected with Sharon Sherman of Thyme & Place Design in Wyckoff for the renovation of our entire first floor, including a new kitchen and bathroom. Here are our top 5 reasons we consider ourselves so very fortunate to have found her. (1)She listens and gets to know you. There is no “one size fits all” in her approach to designing for her clients. Rather, she starts with discovering what her client’s functional requirements are for the space while also beginning the process of understanding their aesthetic. We never felt that she was imposing her choices on us but rather guiding us to discover what would work functionally and aesthetically. (2)She possesses a beautiful aesthetic sense that allows her to create spaces that you will feel comfortable in, and as much as possible, that are “timeless”. (3)She has partnered for many years with a local contractor, Veenstra & Sons, who she trusts to execute her designs and with whom she works extraordinarily well. (4)She stays involved with her projects … not micromanaging but keeping an open line of communication with her contractor partner, being involved with all important decisions and visiting the site periodically to check in on the progress and that of the work of the sub-contractors (she knows almost all of them and they know the quality of work she expects from them!). We never felt that we, or our project, was ever neglected. (5)While all these reasons would be enough for you to want to engage Sharon for your next project … there is one more … and that is she is just fun to work with. Her excitement when she presents a new design, suggests a new type of kitchen appliance to consider or simply comes up with new idea is contagious. We love the new space that she has created with us and have begun the process of settling in and creating new memories with family and friends. When we bought our house in 2022, we loved everything…except there were 90’s Formica built-ins all over the place, and a barely functional kitchen. We knew we needed help to make the most of our space, and were lucky enough to become Thyme & Place Design clients. We have been blown away by the transformation to our home. Sharon envisioned how our space could work best, and designed a perfect layout that maximizes functionality without expanding the footprint of the house. Through her partnership with Randy, the team expertly executed Sharon’s designs. Thyme and Place Design planned a seamless work schedule where everyone was focused on getting the job done, while being open to dialogue and feedback throughout the entire process. We don’t think any other designer + contractor could have completed the same scope of work in such a short period of time. This was our first project of this scale and both Sharon and Randy were patient with us, answered our many questions, and expertly guided us in making design choices. Sharon gave us the freedom to explore and dream, within realistic boundaries. She assisted us with choosing the right appliances, countertops, and tile, and navigating through our first large-scale home renovation. The end result is a beautiful, functional, gourmet kitchen that has also enabled us to make better use of the other spaces in our house. Every detail in the kitchen is well executed — from the mixer lift, to the dish drawers, to the appliance garage, to the coffee/beverage bar, to the dog’s feeding station, and to the lighting on the built-in shelves. The space is designed to make both cooking and cleaning simple, logical, and functional. There is a spot for every dish, kitchen gadget, spice, and pantry item. I don’t even mind cleaning up after marathon cooking sessions because the kitchen is designed for easy clean-up. The cabinet quality is incredible and gives the entire kitchen an ultra-premium finish. Our kitchen is now the centerpiece of our home. We love sharing it with our friends and family. Thyme and Place Design also redesigned our primary bath and powder room. In our primary bath, Sharon created an oasis that is glamorous, yet relaxing and rejuvenating, while fulfilling all of our bathroom must-haves. Sharon again maximized the space for functionality. She designed a shower so relaxing and soothing that it makes traveling difficult, because no hotel shower comes close! Our new powder room is so luxurious, it looks like it belongs in a boutique hotel! Sharon executed on a brilliant idea to backlight the onyx sink. The powder room was particularly challenging due to space constraints discovered during the renovation. We were amazed by Sharon and Randy’s ability to pivot and still create such a beautiful space, while keeping it within budget. Thank you, Thyme and Place Design, for breathing new life into our dated, 90s home, and making it feel modern in a timeless way.

We were so happy we decided to work with Thyme & Place on our kitchen, dining room, living room and mudroom redesign and build! Sharon was a wealth of knowledge when it came to creating our floorplan and ensuring our kitchen would be beautiful but also functional. We hadn’t been through a kitchen renovation before, so we wanted someone who would hold our hands through the process and Sharon did just that. She was super patient with us and guided us through choosing our cabinets, hardware, tile, lighting and more. In addition, her contractor Randy and his team were excellent. They were responsive, did high quality work and were flexible and adaptable when unforeseen circumstances arose. Importantly, they finished the job on time (despite so many people warning us to count on delays) and we absolutely love the end result! We worked with Sharon seven years ago to do our kitchen remodel and we still get that wow factor every time guests come over. We also did a bathroom that still looks timeless but contemporary. The workmanship of her team and Randi are u surpassed. We recently went back to her to remodeled our master bath and it’s spectacular. Sharon’s design added function and it looks beautiful too. Sharon and her team are phenomenal! We turned to Thyme & Place to rethink our kitchen/dining room layout and, subsequently, renovate the spaces. Our kitchen and dining room were cut off from the rest of the house so that we always felt far from company in the kitchen and never even used our dining room. Sharon initially listened to our many needs/wants in a consultation and then designed multiple possibilities for our space, allowing us to customize and rethink the whole layout. We were given exactly what we asked for and more! She really incorporated and understood our vision and needs, as a young family with small children. She really partners with you in your project, joining you in your search for hardware, paint colors, cabinet selections, you name it. With the pandemic, we were living and working from our house during our renovations. Her team was immaculate. They cut off the space and kept the work areas very clean. Everyone was very amiable and professional. My 3 year old son loved having all the excitement! We are beyond thrilled with the results. With the kitchen being the heart of the home, we now have a space we can be proud of in hosting friends and family. We would recommend Thyme & Place to anyone!!

I needed some design hand-holding and a reliable team of collaborating contractors for a kitchen refresh and boy did I pick well! Sharon and the crew did a fantastic work, converting an outdoor patio to serene, sophisticated powder room.
