I'll start by saying we would do it again. That's about the best recommendation one can offer. The craftsmanship of the post and beam speaks for itself. The craftsmen at Smith & Robertson receive great satisfaction from their work and it shows. The most impressive part of the construction project - it was done long distance. The owners were in Tokyo and New York, the project was in Earlysville. The owners were on site less that one week over the entire life of the project. So, trust was essential and the results speak for themselves - a lovely home on the side of a mountain overlooking the Shenandoah National Park. Well done!

Smith and Robertson helped design our home and provided invaluable design assistance as well as superior craftsmanship throughout all phases of construction. Their work consistantly exceeded our expectations, all promises were kept and the project was completed on time. Glenn Robertson and his company are very professional, yet friendly and personable at the same time! It is clear that everyone's objective at Smith & Robertson is to deliver to the client exactly what the client wants. We built from the ground up using an outside architect's plans, and S&R delivered a finished product that was superb! Some builders change from easy going and accommodating to get the job, to obnoxious and going back on their promises during the job. This is not the case at all with S&R! To this day everyone is as friendly and determined to please as they were the first time we shook hands, and that is saying a lot because it took two years to build our home! We have built every house we have ever owned, and the building experience with Smith & Robertson was by far and away the gold standard for relationships with a builder!

Glenn worked on the design of our timber frame house with us and explained the options available to us so that we were able to understand all the details and make a great choice for the frame and the technique we were going to use to build it. He showed complete professionalism in his mastery of the timber framing process. He continued as our general contractor through excavation, construction of the basement and main deck, erecting the frame and construction of the roof and upstairs decks. Glenn was willing to work with me, allowing me as a non professional but experienced amateur carpenter to participate in a meaningful way to the frame construction, and the was willing to surrender the general contracting responsibilities to me for the remainder of the project, remaining available for several months to answer questions and help with getting contractors to work with me. Our house is a wonderful home, with the beauty of our Douglas Fir timber frame on display for us and our visitors to enjoy, and the quality of the work Glenn's crews provided is evident in the solidity of the house.

Ron Smith and Glenn Robinson and their team are fantastic to work with in every way. They build a great house and are highly professional, as are their sub-contractors. While sensitive to detail and high standards, they are also capable of value engineering to meet a budget. Don't choose a builder without talking to Smith and Robinson.
