Sockeye Homes did a wonderful job on our kitchen remodel. From start to finish, it was a fairly painless process. We had our cabinets and countertops replaced, along with lighting, appliances, sinks and hardware, gas fireplace, and the floor refinished. A lot of moving parts going on and naturally there were some delays but overall the job was finished on time. But what really stood out to me was the following: 1. Good communication with us from start to finish (schedule, costs). We knew what to expect and if there was a problem, presented it to us and worked with us to find an acceptable solution. 2. All of the people from management to workers seem to take the time to provide good customer service. You get the sense that this is the mantra from ownership on down. Customer comes first. 3. Tried to minimize the disruptions for us and always cleaned up the job site at the end of day. 4. Insured the subcontractors work met their standards. Oversaw their work. We recently used Sockeye Homes for a kitchen and master bath remodel, and we can’t say enough great things about them! They’re a true one-stop shop with amazing designers, structural engineers, permitting, and scheduling all handled in-house — which made the process seamless from start to finish. The online project file was a huge help allowing us to see every selection, cost, and budget update in real time, so there were never any surprises. Their communication was excellent, and we loved having a daily calendar showing exactly what was happening each day. We even added to the scope of work mid-project, and they gladly accommodated the changes while still finishing ahead of schedule. The entire Sockeye team was a pleasure to work with. They value communication and they are very good at timely updates. We always knew where we were in the project both on budget and scheduling. We moved out of our home for 8-months so the ADU could be completed under our roof for my parents. We connected routinely with Lew who was our site supervisor. He was a wealth of knowledge and gave excellent advice. We used the online app to track the job and make approvals for each step. Hayyan was always there to support and gave quick responses on text. We highly recommend Sockeye Homes and are so pleased with the results of their work.

I used Sockeye a few years ago to remodel my kitchen and they did a great job, so we hired them again to remodel our bathrooms. We had a completely different experience with the bathroom project. They have grown too fast and don't have the help they need to manage their projects. Communication was terrible, our timelines were blown away by lack of follow up and follow thru with both their clients and subs. We had to regularly communicate directions with the subs which never happened when we had our kitchen done. Our project was given a generous 4-month timeline, and we finished the project in 7 months. Mistake after mistake and continuous follow up needed from us and lack of accountability on Sockeye's part made this project unbelievably frustrating. I highly recommend shopping around with other contractors and doing your due diligence to find recent reviews (2024 and 2025) before hiring Sockeye.

We were a bit apprehensive to begin a project in the midst of a global pandemic, but in the end, we are so glad that we went ahead with it. Even so, taking our rustic "fisherman's cabin" and totally renovating it was to us a daunting undertaking, and not without a few hiccups along the way. To be expected with a project of any size, and even more so with potential supply chain issues and delays due to the pandemic. In the end what made this project succeed was the partnership with Sockeye Homes which brought with it highly skilled people, a seasoned approach, and a total commitment to our project. Over the course of our remodel, it was thrilling to see what began seventy-five years ago as a rustic fishing cabin become our "new home" on the Middle Fork of the Snoqualmie River. We (Joanni and Allen Scott) discovered Sockeye Homes at a Home Show in February 2019, and we had discussion with Tod Sakai, owner. We found Tod to be honest and resourceful in helping us decide whether or not to build on our lakefront property in Maple Valley, WA. We communicated with Tod over the next several months, asking many questions, before deciding to build. We entered into the contract in March 2020, just before the pandemic. This timing created challenges, prompting us to delay the start to August. Tod was 100% supportive and made it clear he wanted us to be totally comfortable in moving forward. Architect Patrick Hungerford designed our custom, 1630 square foot, single story, "elder-friendly", 2-bedroom (and den), 2-bath home. He did an outstanding job of taking full advantage of the waterfront view from all areas and it turned out to be the retirement home of our dreams. Design Specialist, Justine Marie guided us on kitchen and bath design selections that are beautiful. Thomas, we believe, is the best in the industry on the finishing work and he added woodworking touches that made our home unique. We were very engaged buyers, on site often and involved in many decisions through the entire process. The Sockeye team was great to work with even among pandemic challenges along the way. Our experience with Sockeye Homes was excellent, and we give them an enthusiastic recommendation. The integrity of the company was always apparent, and we are grateful to have found Sockeye to do the work for us.

With Tod Sakai's vision, along with the skilled and talented people working with and for Sockeye - our home changed from the ugly duckling to a home that invites you to entertain, cook, and celebrate in. Our kitchen was awkward at best - dark with limited cook space. Candace Nordquist helped with materials and kitchen layout - she has an amazing eye - and quickly sized us up for classic style of kitchen. The large sliding doors suggested by Tod bring the outdoors inside and we are looking forward to spending hours on our new large deck this summer. The process was long due to supply chain issues, the scope of project, and other factors but we have appreciated the attention to detail that the Sockeye staff have given us. Our kitchen remodel is now complete, and we are thrilled with the high-quality result! Sockeye Homes did a terrific job of converting our old-fashioned and inefficiently designed kitchen into a beautiful space that enhances the appearance and value of our home and is much more functional and free-flowing to use. Sockeye Homes was on-time and on-budget, and we were uniformly impressed by all of the Sockeye team members with whom we worked. All Sockeye team members are very good at what they do and had such a positive, friendly attitude about our project. Max, the lead carpenter, was terrific with his deep knowledge and great attitude. Justine was great to work with on the design. And Kristin, Reiko and Hayyan in the office were on top of every detail, transparent with costs and schedules throughout the project. Sockeye was an excellent group of people to work with to build our home addition. We added ~350 square feet to our one-story rambler home to build a master suite. Picking a contractor at the beginning of a project is a scary and frustrating, especially since this was our first home remodel. However, Tod and Kristin were extremely thorough in making sure we had agreement on the design, budget, schedule, and were willing to work with drawings that an outside architect had made for us. The fixed-cost design package for the bathroom turned out to save us so much headache in picking out small details, and it looks wonderful. Ryan was a fantastic project manager to work with, he was there every step of the way for the build. Ryan answered all of our questions very professionally, and was willing to accommodate requests from us. A few small things on the project went wrong for us, not surprising for a project this size, but Ryan and Sockeye really went out of their way to make sure everything ended up right. We'd definitely consider bringing back Sockeye for remodels of our home in the future. We love our new space!

We had been in this house for 29 years and planning for the whole house renovation when the right time comes. The only issue was to find the right Home Builder/Remodeler to work with. After our early retirement we decided to find a Design-Build Team now that we have the time to monitor the progress of the project. After a year of looking, interviewing, and screening of the Home Builder/Remodeler we finally found a gem, a Design-Build Team, The Sockeye Homes (Tod/Kristin Sakai, Owners). Turned out it was an excellent choice to partner with our project. The home renovation was finally completed and we are very happy and highly satisfied of the finished product. The planned budget turned out exactly what we had in our vision, a clean modern open concept home. We had a plan in mind for the house renovation such as new additional room, new kitchen, master’s bathroom, and update all remaining bathrooms, etc. After meeting with Tod and discussed all the changes he suggested to move the kitchen to the new addition, etc. Thank you to Tod, Patrick H (Architect), Candace N (Interior Designer), and Tom W (Structural Engineer) for creating a modern/clean line open concept design of the main floor. After the layout of the whole house was completed, Candace started working the interior design of the main floor. She talked and asked Tod, Patrick and Tom to pursue the open concept design. That’s when Tom added the three structural steel I-beam configurations to replace all the wall bearing supports. Tod and his Sockeye Home team executed the plan to perfection! A group of highly skilled craftsman who are on top of their trades. Also, thank you to the rest of Sockeye Team, Ryan K. (Foreman), Tom R. (Finish Foreman) and Reiko N. (Project Manager) for your hard work and expertise for making this home renovation our dream home. Even our grown sons were astonished on the changes inside and outside. Not only do they deserve every award they've received but they are the most honest and gracious group of people you will ever meet. Our project turned out amazing; much more than we dared to hope! They did exactly what we wanted, but better AND during a pandemic. We had a difficult lot to work with but Tod and his team worked it. They know how to handle issues and headaches with cities and engineers. Not all contractors can deal with critical area lots but these guys are pros, full stop. Tod was preternaturally accurate in his estimates of time and budget. His whole team is fantastic. Special thanks to Lew and Reiko. The kitchen and bath package deals really are a killer option. These are a saving grace for preserving your mental capital because when you are building a home, you will have choice overload. The package deals saved our sanity and probably our marriage too. We are still marveling because the finished house turned out exactly like the drawings only better. And last but not least, I had to include a picture of Tod with the news crew during the shut down.

We also had them refinish and extend our hardwood floors and added a fireplace/wall cabinet remodel in midway through the project. Sockeye was professional and timely throughout the project. I was introduced to Sockeye Homes by attending an open house that featured one of their fixed price kitchen packages. Sockeye Homes offers fixed priced kitchens and bathrooms as well as custom remodels. What impressed me immediately was the quality of the remodel! These packages are flexible, so we selected different countertops and flooring for our kitchen. We also added updating our living and dining rooms to this project. Design services are offered through Sockeye. Candace worked with me to configure the floor plan and the changes we wanted to make. Having a design consultant who works closely with the contractor is a plus to make sure the finished remodel is exactly what the homeowner envisions. Lew was the Project Supervisor who worked with us. He coordinated the work provided by Sockeye and subcontractors. Lew was great with keeping us informed of the progress of the remodel and always easy to contact. Sockeye Homes also uses an application where you can refer to documents related to the remodel including the contract, floor plans, materials ordered and spreadsheet of costs. The remodel was actually a very smooth process, so I won’t go into a lot of detail. Everyone who worked on the remodel was professional, provided the highest quality of workmanship, and made sure the work site was clean at the end of the day. Our remodel looks like a custom project! We have had so many compliments on our beautiful kitchen. Sockeye Homes recently completed a bathroom remodel for us. Sockeye replaced faded plexiglass windows shaped like a greenhouse and reconfigured the window area. It presented a challenge for Lew and his team and they came through with flying colors. Our bathroom looks like another custom remodel! We are now in the planning stages with Sockeye Homes to remodel our master bathroom next year and I am confident they will continue to provide the highest quality of work along with excellent communication. We could not be happier with the design and remodel of our house by Sockeye Homes. Tod Sakai, President of Sockeye Homes, along with his architect, engineer, and interior decorator were true professionals who listened to our ideas, addressed every concern, and developed a great “age in place” design for our retirement home. The trades people were true craftsman whose work was exceptional. It was a pleasure having them in our house. The onsite supervisor was great to work with. He addressed our concerns, kept us informed, and got us back in our house well ahead of schedule. We did have one problem with the HVAC system. The supervisor did not stop working on it until we were totally satisfied. Overall a truly pleasant experience. We would recommend them to everyone. Sockeye Homes is a top-notch company.

We hired Sockeye Homes to remodel our master bathroom. They have various fixed priced bathroom remodel packages and we chose the $40k Transitional “Georgetown” package and customized it. You can pick and choose from the various packages to suit your taste and add various upgrades, so even though it’s a “package” you can customize it to fit your style and needs. At the start of the job, they provide a detailed work schedule and cost breakdown. If changes are made during the project, an amended cost breakdown is provided so there are no surprises. From demolition to finish, everything went very smoothly and the remodel was completed on time. Communication with the project manager (either in person or via email) was frequent and timely. With every remodel, there are always a few hiccups along the way and these were quickly resolved to our complete satisfaction. We highly recommend Sockeye Homes for your next remodel and we will definitely use them again in the future.

We hired Sockeye to do a complete master bathroom and bedroom renovation. Right away we were impressed with communication being timely and accurate. The bid was competitive with others we received. The design and planning process went quickly and smoothly. Once the job started we were impressed with how professional all of the sub-contractors were. The job site was kept clean and safe for our family which was extremely appreciated. We were kept up-dated throughout the process as to what was to come and when. The new bathroom was completed ahead of schedule and to a high level of expertise. We have been using our new space for almost a year without any problems. Sockeye Homes did a large remodel for us and we are very happy with the result. From the design phase, permitting and through final construction, Sockeye provided excellent support and service. When unplanned issues occurred, they were always explained well and our options were clearly articulated. The remodel process is a very unusual and stressful time. We finished our own kitchen remodel with a single general contractor back in 2012. We were familiar with a remodel process - cabinet design, color choices, flooring, electrical, faucet choices, appliances, etc. At the time we also made our own concrete countertops for the kitchen. So we were fairly "prepared" when we started shopping around for our next phase of renovations. We knew we wanted a design-build firm that can help us create an addition to our home, about 500sqft. We wanted someone that would respect our little rambler, make our rambler match closer to the rest of the mansion-growing neighborhood while keeping us practical and not over the top with our emotions. We found that style in Tod, Kristin and the rest of their crew. We had Sockeye draw out plans for tearing one side of the house down to extend. When that became too expensive for us, we evaluated options to completely tear down and finally landed with an addition to a different side of the house. Tod was very supportive and helpful and really encouraged us with the last option. We did not have to move away for 9 months and we will have the space we want and we would spend less because there is no tearing down involved. Once our plans locked down by the end of Spring 2015 we were ready to go! The execution of our project was easy as everyone communicated via email, text and there is a website to track the construction project. We had a few hiccups along the way - a beam that should not be cut and an existing sliding patio door that got broken. But all the while we were able to get in touch and informed by our foreman. When the work was not done to satisfactory, our foreman Tim addressed it before we even noticed there was an issue. When the sliding door we wanted had cheaper options as we were painting it, Kristin notified us to change course. When we had an accounting mismatch, Kristin notified us again and gave us credits back. When the entire project had to go on hold because of our family emergency, they were patient and worked around our schedule. All of the above was the reason we went with a design-build firm and not a one-man-show. The one difference I will note is that Sockeye has more than one project at the same time. So there are times in the week when no one is at your site. It's not a huge issue for us because the project area was not close to our living area but comparing that to smaller firms where they cannot parallelize as much, this was one difference. But because they are a larger firm, they have dealt with many different circumstances and customers.

Hard to believe, when you mostly hear of remodeling/home building heart-breakers, but Sockeye management was at our side preserving our confidence and assuring our vision became a reality.

After living in our home for 13 years, we decided it was time to make it more “ours” and take on our first major remodel project. We met Tod & Kristin at the Seattle Home Show and after a brief chat with them, set up a consultation to discuss our ideas. When Tod arrived at our house, we immediately launched into a laundry list of specifics that we wanted – color scheme, take down a wall, types of appliances, etc. After letting us prattle on for awhile, Tod asked us how we used the space. He wanted to know how we spent our time in our kitchen and living areas, what we enjoyed doing (entertaining? family time? work?) and what we envisioned doing in the future. We loved this about him – he intended to make this remodel personal to us, he wanted to make it OURS. Sockeye was hired. We bounced several designs back and forth before deciding upon final layout and budget. We ended up completely remodeling our kitchen and taking down a wall to make the “formal dining room” (which we never used!) into a cozy and casual booth area. Our downstairs powder room was upgraded as well as the family room with a new fireplace wall and cabinetry. The entire downstairs was repainted, moldings updated and hardwoods refinished. The entire Sockeye team was wonderful! We cannot say enough positive things about our job superintendent, Justin. He was so easy and enjoyable to work with. He always kept us informed as to what the schedule was for the upcoming week and was also incredibly conscientious of our privacy during the remodel process. Plus, our three dogs adored him – we think one went into a slight depression after the remodel was over and she realized that her friend wasn’t coming over anymore! Creativity is not our forte, and Candace was amazing at putting together our kitchen and design details. She truly helped us realize and execute our vision for our home. We did go over-budget a bit, but it was primarily because of our choices for higher end appliances and countertops. And this didn’t come as a surprise to us as Kristin kept us continually informed as to where we were with actual expenses v. budget. There were a couple of minor hiccups during the remodel process – the countertops we originally ordered were suddenly unavailable and there was some miscommunication on which walls we wanted painted. However, both issues were timely fixed and we were very pleased with the end results. The Sockeye team completed our remodel on schedule and we now have a space that we love. We actually sit down to eat meals together! The space is definitely us and works perfectly for our family. When we tackle our upstairs in the near future, we definitely plan to use Sockeye again.

From Tod Sakai arriving at our door to assess our needs and showing us what your company had to offer. He answered all our questions and gave us a bid that would adequately meet our financial budget for our master bathroom remodel. Once we accepted Todd’s bid, into the picture comes Kristin Sakai. Kristin was very professional and engaging and she is a wonderful advocate for the company. Kristin and her design partner, Candace, listened to our thoughts and suggestions. We were extremely pleased with the final colors, fixtures and design. On demo day, Justin arrived at the door nicely dressed and after introducing himself, he and his construction/remodel team got to work. At the end of each day the place was left spotless. These men demonstrated high professionalism and a high degree of pride in their work. In all our years we have never seen such professionalism from the remodel team. A year later, we chose Sockeye Homes to remodel our guest bathroom. We knew they would do an outstanding job and keep within our budget. We will highly recommend Sockeye Homes to anyone we can.

This was our first experience with a remodeling project. We began researching contractors at the Seattle Home Show. We narrowed it down to two and went with Sockeye Homes because we felt they had fresher, more innovative ideas. Our job (completed over winter 2015) probably wasn’t big enough to be truly innovative; they built all the changes we asked for, nothing out of the ordinary. The designer was helpful in problem solving when a couple of design elements would not work as envisioned. She also brought a keen eye to recommending color choices; who knew earth tones come in so many shades? We were also impressed by the workmanship of the hardwood floor team, the tiler, the painters, and the housecleaners. Subcontractors arrived to work on the days we were told they would and were professional in getting the work complete, although in the final days of the project when small things needed to be wrapped up, it became harder to pinpoint dates. The job site superintendent communicated with us regularly about the schedule and responded promptly when issues arose. Our neighbor even noticed how frequently he was onsite. Plus our dog adored him. Dogs know. The one issue, and it may have been due to Sockeye Homes transitioning to a new ordering process, were a few delays in ordering which in turn would slide the schedule a week or so. Our timeline was flexible for completion of the remodel but that is an area that should be ironed out for future projects. Remodeling is rarely going to be a smooth process but overall, our experience with Sockeye Homes was positive. We are pleased with the results and are enjoying our new space.

We completely remodeled and updated our kitchen and master bath, working within existing space. We opened up our cramped, peninsula-shaped kitchen by creating an island which completely transformed the flow of the kitchen and made everything, from prepping food to emptying the dishwasher, logical and easy. The original master bath had been built with a huge and impractical shower, but had no bathtub. We added a large soaking tub as well as a sauna, and repositioned the toilet with a sliding door for privacy. In the selection of flooring and counter surfaces, we made many upgrades which made a huge difference in the appearance of our kitchen. The Lumix granite pattern we selected is translucent. To showcase it we asked the Sockeye team to illuminate the bar area from underneath. Their solution was a light panel with with small LED lights and a dimmer switch. The result is gorgeous. Sockeye handled all aspects of the project, from the design drawings to the final inspection. The Sockeye team managed the project professionally, with weekly meetings to ensure it stayed on track and on budget. We were regularly provided spreadsheets which documented progress and pinpointed areas where we were off course or budget. This project, completed around Christmas 2014, began in March with a consultation at Tod and Kristin Sakai's showcase home. (Go see it!) Our home is more traditional than theirs but we picked up a few ideas such as Miele kitchen appliances and motion sensor floor lighting in the bathroom. Can't say enough good about both. Pricing-wise, the quality of the services that Sockeye provides, including consolations and sometimes hand-holding, does not come cheap. Tod's original estimate was under $200,000, and the additional $65k was mostly due to our decisions to upgrade (additional $15k on the kitchen granite, for example) and to expand the original scope of work. Lest it sound like this is a paid-for solicitation, not everything went perfectly. We were not pleased with the on-site electrician, who kept telling us how difficult the job was. Overall, everything turned out but somehow the dimmer switch for the under cabinet lighting wound up on the wall at the top of the vent hood. We are thrilled with our new kitchen, our new bath and the out-of-scope work Sockeye performed and highly recommend Sockeye Homes.

Sockeye Homes did our kitchen remodel. They weren't the cheapest, nor the most expensive option I considered, but I believe they were by the best value by far. Their communication was excellent, they showed up when they said they would, kept me apprised of all expenses along the way, did excellent work, and kept their work area clean. The foreman was SO on the ball, he discovered a mistake the appliance supplier made before the unit was even out of the box. I've recommended them to family and friends, and would not hesitate to hire them again for our next big remodel.

I wanted to update this as now I've known Sockeye homes and their staff since 2012. I am happy to report they continue to win my trust and respect. The Sockeye team is organized, efficient, and continues to demonstrate excellent follow through. Our job superintendent kept regular meetings with us reviewing decisions, checking the punch list and adhering to my schedule. The ability to look over our decisions via an up to date spreadsheet allowed us to stay aware and focused, they delivered the house on time and on budget. Their responsiveness, flexibility, building knowledge and suggestions were right on target. We couldn't be happier with our results. The Sockeye staff were true partners throughout the experience, patient and wise in their guidance. I highly recommend the team and wouldn't hesitate to begin anew with any project with Sockeye on our side.

A year ago they came out and gave up a really great quote on our idea for remodeling our home. They are very professional and even went as far as taking us to a few of their project homes to show us the quality of work and some past successes. We weren't able to move forward with the process but as soon as we can we will definitely be using Sockeye Home to assists us.
