Spark Modern Fires

Sadly I'm writing this review on Spark as they simply don't stand behind their products or their warranty and I want to let others know to beware of this company and to research other options. I purchased a very expensive Spark Fire Ribbon, Direct Vent Slim 46 in April for $5000 in April 2019. The product arrived and almost immediately it went downhill from there with Spark. We contacted Spark as their warranty will be voided if an installer that they recommend is not used to install it and we had to reach out to Spark to find an installer in Southern California. They sent us a list and we reached out to several installers and none of the installers they gave us even cared enough to call us back. We live in Orange County California with a population of over 3 million people and couldn't find a local installer to install their product. Needless to say that is a very, very bad sign and if we had known that we would have NEVER bought from this company. Finally after a week or two we found an installer in the San Diego area that would work with us to install this $5000+ fireplace. The installer charged us over $1500 to install the fireplace. Needless to say we didn't have any options at that point as we couldn't return the fireplace, Spark wouldn't help us and only one installer would even call us back. It took the installer about 2 hours to install it - yes 2 hours of work for $1500. But it was installed and worked so we just swallowed the charge and called it a day. Being that we live in California and its warm year round we didn't really need turn the fireplace on until Thanksgiving of 2019 and it worked the first time. I tried it the next day for about 10-15 attempts and it wouldn't turn on. A day or two later it turned on again, just once, and now it won't turn on. I've tried to turn it on for over 30+ attempts now and it doesn't work. I reached out to Spark and they sent me a document they want me to sign saying they won't even send anybody to look at the fireplace unless we sign a document saying that if the fireplace was installed incorrectly we would be liable for all charges, the service call and even damages. So Spark sold us a fireplace that doesn't work, made us pay $1500 to have one of their recommended installers install the fireplace and now won't take any responsibility that their product doesn't work unless I sign a legal document giving our rights away. I'm not sure what to do at this point, I'm over $6500 into this Spark fireplace adventure. Spark won't support their product, and the fact that is broke so quickly is also concerning. Even if they do decide to support the product and fix it at some point the fireplace only has a 2 year warranty and I'm not convinced it is a good or high quality product so it might not last. Even when it worked it gave off a weird chemical smell that I wasn't comfortable with and would have to air out the house (and yes we have the vent installed and it is free/clear/open). California limits small claims court limit damages up to $10,000 so I'm leaning towards going that route and just getting our money back for the fireplace and installation from Spark but I'd really just prefer that Spark shows up and stands behind their products. Has anybody else had any luck with Spark with customer service or them standing behind their products? Do all their product break so quickly? Ugh - so frustrated -why can't companies support their products.
