We cannot say enough nice things about Russ Swalberg. He designed our exterior spaces and supported us through implementation for our 2014 NW Natural Street of Dreams home. He created extremely detailed plans for our landscape which included multiple water features, retaining rock wall, land contours, and plant selection and placement. He provided plans that were easy to understand with markers for where each and every plant would be placed in our yard. Russ is very knowledgeable in all aspects of landscape design. He also helped to plan our large outdoor living space, front porch and driveway concrete. His answers to our questions were always spot on and delivered with a smile. We found him to be very reliable and honest in all aspects of the project. We are extremely happy with the work we hired Russ to do and would not hesitate to recommend or hire him again. We hired Exterior Spaces to help us plan the changes that needed to happen in our backyard. Even though I wanted to do it on a budget, I soon realized that hiring Russ was going to save us money in the long run, by getting a good plan with a vision, avoiding costly mistakes, and ultimately getting an end product that we would be proud of. Within 5 minutes, Russ had shown us what was wrong with the yard layout and why it wasn't getting used. The space had a flow that was divided for lack of a better description. He talked about how we were going to fix it, so it made more functional and enjoyable. The plans he drew up were just that, and we love the results. I have no reservations in recommending Exterior Spaces. You are hiring a professional who is knowledgeable on plant types, soil, hardscape products, and lighting.

Russ Swalberg has been instrumental in helping us to realize our outdoor dream space. He was very patient in guiding us through the ins and outs of our "mission impossible project". Since we had a very limited knowledge of landscaping design and local flora we appreciated his input and liked the fact that Russ was very accommodating and pleasant to do business with. Russ has a superior knowledge of the landscaping architecture and designed our outdoor space with great taste, colorful plants, paving materials and fencing to greatly enhance the curb appeal and resale value of our corner property in South East Portland. Once we finalized the landscaping plans, Russ recommended several reputable companies to bring his plans to reality. We chose one of those companies and are very satisfied with the quality of execution of the project.

Russ was excellent to work with. He brought perspective and ideas to our project, but still collaboratively incorporated our ideas. We had fairly well developed ideas of what we wanted to do, but Russ refined it with value and budgetary aims in mind. Great guy to work with interpersonally. Very genuine.

Russ has done more than one project for us at our home and has done an excellent job. His designs were exactly what we explained we wanted the finished product to be used for. We loved his imagination and great use of color and space. We appreciated that he over saw the project to completion and stayed within our budget and best of all we love our landscaping!
