The Gardeners

If it wasnt for the final product looking as great as it does after all that occurred, we would have given Duxbury 1 star. They installed a 2000sqft patio, coping around our pool, a retaining wall around our yard, and a 10ft fire pit plus 2 fire bowls as well. A large job for any contractor. Not sure if the pandemic had impacted the quality of their employees working but we had several mishaps throughout the life of the project including extensive damage (~$15k loss) to our (finished) basement due to the pitch of the patio they installed ended up flooding our basement. There is no excuse for a company of this caliber to miss the importance of proper pitch and drainage around a property. It took 3 months for them to fully fix the problem which ended up with us agreeing to deduct the amount it would take to fix the basement from our final invoice and hire a separate company to address it. The project also took 4 months longer than originally estimated since only 1 or 2 guys would show up (and hours were sporadic, usually 9-1pm with an hour for lunch - and no work on Fridays - some days they wouldnt even show up and there was no call or reason as to why), communication is terrible (they do not respond to emails or phone calls unless you pester them constantly), they overbilled us on 3 separate occasions (we kept records of all estimates and invoices and a good thing we did), they invoiced us separately for work we assumed was covered under other proposals (e.g., we received an invoice for patio stairs work 1 month after patio work was completed and was told this was not part of estimate), and they would do work without discussing or estimating cost of work. In some cases, the work did need to get done (like extending the retaining wall or patio to accommodate bad measurements from original proposal, but they would just bill you for it and expect you to pay without being consulted). We failed electrical inspection twice. They also planted 40 trees during the hottest part of July without hooking up the irrigation system first - as such, all 40 trees died within 3 days and needed replacement (done in early November). Again, another example of a professional company missing something so simple. When the irrigation system was finally installed, it flooded parts of our front yard and needed to be fixed again. The team also backed over and destroyed our mailbox (Walpole Woodworkers) and replaced it with some flimsy $20 one and would not respond to our claims. If we had to say something positive about Duxbury, the final product (when all these mishaps were finally fixed), looks amazing - a true oasis right in our backyard. I would also say Jay (owner), is a man of his word and did his best to address our concerns. If I had to do it all over again, I would ask for guarantees in writing about scheduling, number of workers assigned to your project, expected hours per day, and estimate of completion. When project went south, I was no longer a priority.

Jason was the best landscape designer and would highly recommend him And his company. He was very responsive to all of the question my wife and I had. He designed a backyard oasis for us. He design it to our exact liking and did exactly what we wanted. We were sold right away. The Gardeners and Jason’s team were very professional and very knowledgeable in the industry. Every question we had when they were on site the answered. Jay, the owner of the company, tan the project from start to finish. The project came out awesome. Jay’s son Matt was there to make sure the guys were meeting all the expectations we had. He was a great person to work with. They ended up giving us a backyard oasis that we were able to enjoy this whole summer long especially with what is going on in the world today. They did a pool, bluestone patio, coping, Waterfall, lighting, irrigation, outdoor fireplace and fire pit, an outdoor kitchen, and pergola.we live in Weston Ma. Thank you over and over again. I would recommend this company to anyone who is looking for a high end landscaping job.

I cannot recommend Jason and the entire Duxbury Gardeners team enough. From the initial engagement and time Jason spent with my wife and I to create not just a pool, but an outdoor lifestyle; to the teams constructing the retaining walls, laying the patio or installing the lights and irrigation, everyone went above and beyond to ensure it was the best experience possible and provide a product that went above and beyond anything we could have imagined. The team did a great job managing each aspect of project and keeping my wife and I fully up to speed on what was happening next and taking into consideration any changes or tweaks we wanted to make (which inevitably came up often). We are a busy family with several dogs. Maintaining our yard is hard enough, and the dogs tend to undo our efforts. However, over the last two years Matt and the amazing team at Duxbury Gardeners have managed to do the impossible through an extreme backyard makeover. Matt designed a patio area with lighting, a fire pit, a stone wall, and seating area that united our outdoor space in a more workable way by delineating areas for comfortable conversation, outdoor dining, nooks to curl up with a good book, and green areas for the dogs to play. The end result was delivered on time, within budget, and by workers who really cared about the end result, made suggestions that improved the project, and are a pleasure to be around. Additionally when a windstorm uprooted a major tree in our yard shortly after the project was completed, Duxbury Gardeners was the first to arrive to help with the clean up. Highly recommend with no hestitations!

I couldn't be more pleased with Duxbury Gardeners. I was looking for a design company that has the industry expertise, knowledge, and creativity to create an oasis in my back yard. The office staff was very helpful, designers were creative, and their landscaping team was a pleasure to have on my property. (I have found this to be rare in my past experiences) When I returned home after the project was complete, I was reminded of how much they listened to what was important to me and executed perfectly. Today, I have a beautiful landscape design, cobblestone walkway, pond, and a garden space ready for planting in the Spring. I have already signed my annual maintenance contract and referred DG to my employer so they can beautify their properties with the best.

Be careful. They do great work and of good quality, but the responsiveness, especially after the sale, is very poor. Our first project with them (pool patio, landscape, etc.) began in the Fall of 2017. While it was completed very late, they did a quality job, so we initiated a second project to redo the lighting around the pool in the Spring of this year. Here we are at the end of the Summer, and still no working lights around the pool. We went with a higher cost more reputable firm to avoid these issues.

Jason and his team helped us to create a resort-like pool, decking, pool house, outdoor kitchen and landscaped yard. We were not able to be on-site and completely relied on Jason to plan and execute all aspects of the project. We would recommend Jason and his team to anyone who is looking to transform their property into a sophisticated and comfortable family gathering spot! My 24 extended family members never want to leave!

The company that was installing our pool recommended Duxbury Gardeners. When I told friends we were installing a pool they would ask who was doing the landscaping. On several occasions when I said Duxbury Gardeners they would say "we used them" or "my neighbor used them" followed by, "they do great work". It is nice to receive positive feedback when you hire someone for a big project. And the Gardeners lived up to their reputation. Jason drew up a design that better than we could have imagined. Jay and the crew then did an excellent job in making the design a reality. Before, we rarely used our backyard, but now it is an extension of our home. I will be using the Gardeners for future landscaping projects.

We used Jason and the team at Duxbury Gardner’s to design and build an outdoor kitchen/living area. From design phase through construction they were great to work with. We went through several iterations of design as we were considering different options for the space. jay worked with us every step of the way and helped us create a vision for the space. The construction crew was also fantastic. With any major project there are things that come up and changes that need to be considered. They communicated great and worked with us from start to finish. Last but not least the quality of the stonework and install clearly far exceeds what you see in the market. Their masons and craftsmen are true professionals at their craft. We worked with Jay, Jason, Matt, Kyle and the rest of the crew from Duxbury Gardners on a new home with pool and patio. They handled landscape design, pool layout, installation of retaining walls, patio, planting, irrigation and landscape lighting with professionalism and commitment. We worked with Duxbury Gardners to transform our sloping backyard into an multi-tiered oasis with a pool, veranda, outdoor kitchen and fire pit. We worked with Jason on the design - he was amazing to work with. He thought of everything and guided us on various choices throughout the process including all the landscaping, stonework and accessories. Jason and Jay and the rest of the very talented folks at Duxbury Gardeners did a beautiful job on our front-to-back yard renovation. Our project involved everything from tearing out our old driveway and replacing it to building an area for entertaining in our back yard. Duxbury Gardeners was able to make the things we thought were impossible possible. We appreciated their broad range of in-house expertise so they were able to handle masonry, landscaping, irrigation and lighting - not to mention Jason’s INCREDIBLE design talent. Wow. I hired Jason Pontbriant with Duxbury Gardeners to install a new patio wall with lights for our pool area. He was very professional and listened to our concerns. The work was excellent and he stayed right on budget. The patio going to the pool area is beyond my expectations. I would highly recommend them.

Outstanding…that is one word that comes to mind with our experience with Jay, Jason and the team at The Gardeners. My wife and I found Jason here on Houzz and had an initial design meeting where we told him we were thinking of putting in a pool and the yard was a blank slate. He listened to exactly what we were saying, from ideas down to budgetary thoughts and came back with a design that was perfect after just a few small tweaks. Jason even took the time to work with our town hall to ensure whatever design he proposed would actually be acceptable. That willingness to go above and beyond was something that showed us the type of person Jason is, and the type of company you’re getting with The Gardeners. Jason’s patience for client service and a clear love for design were traits that made him so refreshing to deal with. We knew down deep that unless things worked out perfectly in actuality, as the vision in his mind, it would bother Jason as much as it would any client! The final design included a raised beam pool (Jason’s suggestion to help with grading), a fire pit, with a couple retaining walls built into the plan. Jason’s suggestions for the stone (both decking and walls), along with a general feeling for the proper flow and function of the design were perfect. Once the project began, Jay was heavily involved in project management to ensure things were done timely and properly. The company and each of its staff absolutely exude quality; yet all have that easygoing demeanor that makes them so nice to deal with. Each and every guy on the team was clearly an expert in their particular craft, polite, ensured the job site was in great shape and showed the utmost respect to both us as clients as well as our neighbors during the project. The Gardeners’ cut no corners and the finished product is a thing of beauty. We started with a blank slate and an initial meeting with Jason…we ended up with a pool and patio area that would rival many resorts. In short, Jay, Jason and team were all wonderful people, who put thought and passion into their work and we would highly recommend them for their services.

We worked with Jason when deciding what type of patio we wanted for our new pool, and he was so easy to work with in all aspects. From start to finish Jason responded to any questions we had quickly and with a smile :) He did a terrific job designing what we envisioned and we get compliments all of the time on our beautiful patio.

Quality company with excellent staff! I had the privilege of working with Jason Pontbriant, landscape designer/architect who was extremely personable and responsive throughout the entire project. Despite my changing aspects of the design from start to finish, Jason patiently worked with me throughout to achieve my long-held dream of owning a pool and awesome looking back yard. As I was starting with a blank slate and major changes including moving my septic and elevation work, it was a project with many moving parts. Continuously Jason worked with me to stay within my budget and offer a host of options for now and into the future. The project is on-going and I cannot wait to see what next year brings as I work with Duxbury Gardeners to add the finishing touches of stonework and landscaping. I would highly recommend them. They are true to their word, experts in the industry, and offer a finished product that you will love.

Our family wanted to update our aging pool and pool area, and really had no idea about what to do and how to get started. We contacted Duxbury Gardeners, and within a week Jason visited us and walked us through all the potential options. Soon after, we had a full draft of our plan, that fit to a tee what we wanted. A few months later our work was completed, which included an outdoor kitchen, fire pit, outdoor shower and a total pool deck. We couldn't be happier!!

I would highly recommend the Gardners. From start to finish, their professional attitude and attention to detail made the whole process painless and easy. With only a general idea of what we thought we wanted, the designer developed the perfect landscaping plan for our front yard which included removing the plain bushes, adding colorful plants, trimming overgrown trees and adding a beautiful granite and bluestone walkway to tie in with existing hardscaping. The landscapers were thorough, punctional, polite and respectful. Neighbors we don't even know now drive by and call out "Yard looks great!". I would definitely use them again.

The Gardeners did an excellent job installing a new patio for us. They removed and old shed and unused garden area. They transformed our backyard space into a beautiful area we can use and enjoy. I won't hesitate to hire them for my next project.

Words cannot express how happy we are with the outcome of our new backyard oasis! After coming highly recommended from our pool company (Easton Pool and Spa) we met with Jason from Duxbury Gardeners to design our pool, spa, fire pit, dining area and landscape. Jason was very friendly, down to earth and so easy to work with. Before we started all we knew was that we wanted a pool and spa. Early on Jason taught us (very tactfully) "a pool is just a hole with water in it" and it's the unique features and surrounding landscape that will transform our yard into something special. After realizing our yard was on a slight down grade we needed to build a support wall which turned into our beautiful half moon seat-wall for the fire pit. Jason also introduced the idea of the raised beam for the pool to help with the grade but to also add to the aesthetics with the waterfall feature (something we would have never thought of and now LOVE). Our plot was tight with some tough restrictions due to septic placement etc. Jason created the most perfect plan maximizing the space we had. He was very clever in creating our outdoor space as a continuation to our home with a dining area and an entertaining area. Without trying to up-sell us he nicely talked us through the different options for pool decking, patio and stone options. He brought an iPad and was able to show us pictures to help us narrow down what we liked. He educated us on different types of stone and had samples of some for us to choose from. He worked with us on different options to stay within our budget. We have a phase two in the works for the future where we'll add in a built in grill to the entertaining area. Jason and the crew helped us to get ahead of this next step by already placing a line in for gas to support our future built in. When we bought our furniture set for the fire pit Jason was very accommodating and refigured the design of the seat wall to fit the dimensions of set perfectly. Jason has impeccable taste and great vision and shares it in the most unpretentious way, a trait that we so appreciated! The team at Duxbury Gardeners carried out this vision flawlessly. From the owner Jay (also very nice and down to earth) to each member of the hard working crew this company was a pleasure to work with. I would highly recommend them!

I can not express how much we love our new outdoor space. We had our doubts about doing such a huge project which entailed pool, spa, decking, and fire pit. This would not have been such an unbelievable positive experience if it was not for Jason at Duxbury Gardeners. We hired Duxbury Gardeners to build a new walkway, patio and fire pit a month ago in our back yard. We couldn't be happier with the way it turned out. They were completely professional throughout the whole process and did amazing work. It actually turned out even better than we had anticipated. One person on their staff I'd like to point out is Jason, who is their landscape designer. When we started to consider doing this project, we thought we knew what we wanted to accomplish, but weren't quite sure how to get there. Jason provided us with the vision we needed with the new landscape. He initially came by and drew up a design which really hit on all of the key elements that we were looking for, even things we hadn't considered like plantings and stone work. It impressed us because he was investing the time with the design before we had even committed to using them. Finally he spent an hour with us in their showroom talking through different ideas and suggestions. While there, we looked through the portfolio of projects that he helped designed and it became clear to us that he has a ton of expertise in landscaping. It really gave us the confidence to move forward with them. Bottom line - We are completely satisfied with the work they did and we won't hesitate to use them again for our next project.

They did a great job designing and building out the plan for our backyard. All of our friends and family comment on how beautiful it is. They took a space we weren't using into a spot we want to spend time in.

We met with Jason from Duxbury Gardeners back in the fall of 2014 about our pool project. We were very impressed with his relaxed and congenial demeanor. After we discussed our wants and needs he put together a sketch of the project that was amazing. After a few tweaks we had a plan. After one of the worst winters in decades pushed us back a little, our project started this past May and was completed by the end of June and we were swimming on the 4th of July! Everything from excavation, pool construction, paving stones, landscaping, fencing, lighting, irrigation and carpentry was coordinated by Jason and Duxbury Gardeners in the most professional manner. Our project started back in 2011 with a pool, patio and plantings design. When completed it was a retransformation of our property into a lovely oasis that we enjoy with family and friends for a full three seasons. Working with Jason Pontbriant, BSLA was a delight. He had many wonderful ideas that would encompass our property including a waterfall, double-faced flat fieldstone wall, Brussels block sierra circle patio and the many beautiful plantings. We had a major renovation on our home in Plymouth. After the work on the house, the front landscaping needed major attention. Jason at Duxbury Gardners provided us with ideas and plans to address our needs, the slope conditions, and our budget. The construction of walls, walkways, steps, irrigation, and landscape plantings and lawn area took a week from start to finish. The results were all to our satisfaction. And, we keep getting positive comments from our neighbors. His team was very courteous and hard working - even on some very hot days in July.

Jason with Duxbury Gardeners is outstanding. We approached him when our rotting deck needed replacing. He came back with a detailed landscape design that included an outdoor kitchen, patios, lighting, a pond, and a revamped front facade. He suggested how the project could be done over a long period of time if we didn't want to take all of it on at once. We decided to do the whole project and we could not be happier with the results. The plants he chose produce a truly rolling bloom that amazes us each spring, summer, and fall. We liked it so much that last year after we completed an addition, we had him design the landscaping for that part of the yard. Again, we could not be happier. We give him and his installation team the highest ratings.

We first hired Duxbury Gardeners about 9 years ago, shortly after we moved into our new home. The property had no landscaping to speak of, but clearly it had potential. We knew there was a lot of work to be done, so we decided to do one project at a time over about four years. The work that Jason and the Duxbury Gardeners does is fantastic. The last major project Jason did for us was to transform our in-ground pool area. He took my input and vision and made it 1000x better. Everyone who comes over is completely impressed with the work and I often get asked who does our landscaping. He converted our blah backyard into a backyard retreat that we love spending our time in. We have been extremely happy with the work that they do, that we hire them year-after-year for all of our projects. We have hired them for the following installations and services: Complete new lawn by hydro-seeding, 9-zone irrigation system, faucets in the garden for drip-irrigation, shrubs and perennial gardens in the front of our house, field stone walls, tree removal, lawn fertilization, mulch installation, memorial garden with sitting stone, exterior landscape lighting, a fire pit, a pergola, driveway pavers, stone pillars to mark our driveway entrance, expansion of our swimming pool with pavers, fencing, seasonal cleanups, brush removal, and more shrubs and perennials in our backyard. Honestly, I think the only thing we have not hired them for has been snow removal because I like to use my snow-thrower! If you need any project done, big or small, call Jason. He will work with you to ensure your vision is realized.

Our experience working with Jason and The Gardeners has been nothing short of outstanding!
