Wankner Architecture + Landscape Designs

In November 2018 Vicki and I purchased a single family home in Oceanside, CA. We wanted to open up the kitchen to the dining and living room. We contacted John Wankner to create the demo and reconstruction plans. In addition he helped with the design of the all new kitchen and island, lighting and finishes. He was always available to consult with the contractors and keep us on track. John included ideas to keep the costs down which really helped. Then is February of 2021, again we hired John to help with the master bathroom remodel. It was dated with 2 sinks and no vanity. Vicki wanted a vanity and one vessel sink; expand the shower and change the tube to a deep soaker…. Well, as the dominoes would fall, it turned into a full demo and reconstruction. Again, John created the plans, worked with the contractor bids, suggested savings, did several plan updates including moving the toilet and plumbing add more cabinet space and drawers. All went very smoothly, and Vicki is ecstatic with our new master bathroom.

John of Wankner Architect+ Landscape Designs guided me through the complete remodel of a very dated condo on the Lagoon in Carlsbad. I shared my vision for the unit. He listened to me and developed an even better version on paper. His submissions to the HOA and city of Carlsbad were very detailed and timely which helped with the permitting process.During construction he was available if his input was needed. The request for approval from the HOA was complemented by the Board. as very professional His attention to detail made the remodel progress with little down time. I would recommend John to anyone who wants their dream house a reality. John captured my vision and made it a reality. Every morning when I have coffee on the balcony I find new things to appreciate.

John has several great attributes which made our experience with him outstanding: First, he has a great design aesthetic which allowed him to bring thoughtful design to the whole concept of our house but also all to all the smaller details that reveal themselves over time. Second, he is a great listener, where he worked hard to match his skills and expertise to our needs, desires, and dreams. Third, his attention to detail allowed him to create plans that were much more thorough than most architects execute…this saved time when discussing the project with potential contractors and saved time once the job was awarded because the contractor did not need to fill in too many gaps. Fourth, he is a solid communicator and collaborator- when we had questions, he had a quick response, when we needed to brainstorm on an idea or problem, he came with constructive ideas. And finally, he is just a great person to work with.

John is an excellent architect. His design sense and follow through are beautiful and thoughtful. His followthrough is exceptional and thorough. We loved working with him.
