The diverse Personal Background and Professional Expertise Justin & Kathrin bring to their practice enables them to recognize and address all aspects of a project regardless of the nature and scale, and to make sure that a first time residential client feels as confident throughout the process as an institutional client looking for a landmark design. Every person is unique, so is every project. Appreciation of this fact is the base for every project they take on. Justin founded JLA+D in 2015 as an Architecture Studio with a strong focus on Museum and Exhibition Design, after working with the Italian Star Architect Renzo Piano on high profile projects like the California Academy of Sciences, the Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art and the Harvard Art Museums. With 15+ years of experience, Justin truly understands the complexity and intricacy of working in the museum environment & knows what is needed to successfully execute the project in collaboration with the design team, clients, engineers and contractors from the beginning of the design process to the end of the construction and beyond. Kathrin, a German Designer & engineer in architecture, is trained in rehabilitation of existing building structures. She has worked closely with clients on many projects from identifying project goals and conducting feasibility studies through design to construction completion. Her projects range from redevelopment planning and rehabilitating existing masonry and prefabricated concrete facades to retrofitting existing interiors according to new programmatic needs, while addressing concerns on sustainability and environmental impact. Her projects exceed functional requirements and visual expectations of public and private clients alike. When Kathrin joined in 2018 to work with Justin as a husband & wife team, Lee²Design was born as a Boutique Design Studio, providing clients with complete Architecture & Design Solutions on custom furniture, interior fit-outs, additions, new buildings and master planning. Together, JLA+D and Lee²Design are capable of delivering a thoughtful and integrated design solution at any scale. Justin and Kathrin believe strongly in a close and constructive working relationship with the clients, the total work of exceptional design and the role of the Architect-Designer in providing careful and coordinated oversight on various aspects of the project. Both make sure projects are completed according to the vision developed with the clients.

Kathrin & Justin of Lee2Design were great to work with. I used their design services for a home renovation. They listened to my needs and provided great imagery and design options to help guide the process in a way that matched my aesthetics but also balanced functionality. They worked at my pace and were responsive throughout the process. I found them professional, approachable, and practical and truly enjoyed working with them. They made me feel like a partner in the design process and treated me like an equal. I highly recommend their services.

Lee2Design/ JLA+D are excellent architects. They are thoughtful and creative but have a strong understanding of costs. I have worked mostly with Justin. He is very detail-oriented. This results in an outstanding building. He always makes himself available to review questions about design and construction. This is really important as a client since you do not want to feel abandoned. Undertaking a project is a big deal for me as it doesn't happen often. You want a partner in your architect who understands you and works with you. This is Lee2Design/JLA+D. I really enjoyed working with them.

The U.S. campus of 18 United World Colleges located in 18 countries, UWC-USA, has had the joy and privilege of working with Justin Lee in his capacity as board member and chair of our facilities committee. Though his work for us has been as a volunteer, we have benefited fully from Justin's professional acumen and personal attention to big dreams and small details alike. Our small unit (34 sqm) has become much larger and extremely livable thanks to Lee2. The design was well-thought out, personalized, and maximized the space within a budget constraint. There's tons of storage, and space for a couple to comfortable live. The layout and material choices included a substantial level of personalization, no cookie-cutter design. There was great attention to detail and great patience with me as a client to ensure that my requirements and personal tastes were fully met. Although we were working remotely, the architects were highly responsive and flexible. Working with the contractor was made easier by the high quality design and materials provided by the architects. I cannot recommend them more highly.

Lee2Design was the perfect fit for our needs. Justin and Kathrin listed to our goals and needs, took the time to really understand what we wanted, and expertly helped shape a realistic plan that kept one eye on the budget and the other on helping us realize our design dreams. Their combination of architectural knowledge and experience was critical to solving several complicated challenges in our space - especially in dealing with the difficult triangular footprint of much of our house - solutions we never would have come up with on our own. And in terms of design, they managed to find products and suggest colors and textures that perfectly suited our taste, rather than merely replicating TV show taste, and at the same time provided expert advice on how to expand our design horizons without pressuring us into doing anything for their egos rather than our lifestyle. Justin and Kathrin were extremely easy to work with - we always looked forward to our meetings, and they made the entire process as painless as possible. We couldn't be happier with the results!
