I had an outstanding experience working with Dan McLaughlin, owner of Dwelling Indy, on my custom home in Indianapolis. This was my first time building a house, and after hearing so many warnings about how stressful the process could be, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Thanks to Dan, the experience was genuinely positive and far less stressful than I had imagined. I originally reached out to several builders through Houzz, and Dan immediately stood out. He was the only one who took the time to meet me in person at the empty lot to talk through my vision and goals. While others focused mainly on budget numbers over email or phone, Dan focused on understanding what I wanted to build, setting the tone for the entire project. From design through construction, Dan was a true partner every step of the way. His many years of experience and strong local connections were evident throughout the process. He worked seamlessly with my bank, stayed on schedule, was consistently responsive, and never compromised on quality. Costs were accurately estimated and the build was completed within the contracted timeline. Even outside feedback reinforced how well-run the project was. Neighbors commented on how respectful and tidy his crew was, and the bank inspector specifically noted how clean, organized, and well-managed the site was. Beyond being an excellent builder, Dan is simply a kind, honest, and trustworthy person. I feel incredibly lucky to have worked with him and would wholeheartedly recommend Dwelling Indy to anyone considering building a home.

Working with Dan McLaughlin on our extensive kitchen remodel was an outstanding experience. He was professional and attentive throughout the process from planning to completion. Our home has many unconventional features and Dan and his team were able to creatively and efficiently address all unexpected challenges. His estimate for the time and price of the remodel were both on target. It was so impressive to see how Dan expertly coordinated the various subcontractors to minimize any down time in the process. In other words, someone was working on our project almost every single day from start to finish. In addition, everyone he hired to work on the project was highly skilled and extremely professional. The finished kitchen is better than we could have imagined! Remodeling projects are always a bit stressful and Dan had a very calming presence throughout. He always communicated well with us regarding upcoming plans/changes/events happening. He has a very easy style and always made himself available to ask questions, bring up concerns, and was open for us to make suggestions and share ideas. He stayed late many evenings to make sure we were comfortable with what was unfolding in the process. His talents, experience, and expertise were clear from our first meeting to the last finished details. He is trustworthy, reliable, and brilliant at what he does. We would give him 10 stars if we could and would recommend him for any project! We miss having him around and have already begun to plan for our next project with him.

We worked with Dan and his team on our home renovation that included exterior changes, a finished attic, a new kitchen, and general refresh of most of the house . Dan understood our goals, had great ideas, and helped us with a well conceived plan. He handled all the subcontractors and permitting seamlessly. It really helps that he has long standing relationships with the subs that he uses. Of course all projects of this magnitude encounter some difficulties and ours was no exception. This is where Dan truly proved his worth. He had a calm confidence throughout the process and he was a strong advocate for us in getting mistakes corrected. We are very happy with the final results and would not hesitate to work with him again.

We have been extremely happy with Dan and his crew on two back-to-back projects. We found his scheduling to be incredibly accurate, he was very communicative, his team was respectful and the end product is beyond our expectations. Dan does a great job thinking through the details, asking lots of questions and in the end bringing our vision to life.

Dwelling Indy and team completed our kitchen and living room renovation and we’re excellent. Dan is very professional and easy to communicate with from start to finish. The quality of work from his team of contractors was extremely high and they were all very professional in how they operated in our house keeping work spaces clean and tidy at end of each day. Overall we couldn’t be happier working with them and seeing our renovation progress and be completed in the planned timeframe. Highly recommended and would be the only team we would use for future projects.

Dwelling Indy was great! Dan started with design suggestions we had never considered, which opened our space and added more natural light. Those suggestions have made an immense difference while managing to keep the character of our 1927 home intact. Our start time and end time were faster than we thought they would be which was an added bonus. We were also impressed with the subcontractors that Dan uses. They were timely, professional, and very neat, cleaning up at the end of each day. Communication was also excellent. Any "glitches" (as can be uncovered in an older home), were addressed and updated. The finished product of our renovated kitchen and dining room space is fabulous. We entertain often, so this was a very important project for us. We love our renovation and we very highly recommend Dwelling Indy!

I simply cannot praise Dwelling Indy enough for their work on the extensive renovation remodeling for my 102 year old house. Dan's knowledge and attention to detail of every step of the process was exquisite, and his communication was excellent during every step of the complicated project. I am so very pleased and without question will use Dwelling Indy for any future home renovations.

Dwelling Indy LLC did a huge project at my home recently. The project took months because it was such a big job, so we were around the contractors a lot. Not only did the Dwelling Indy team do an incredible job on our home, they were all very courteous. Dan did a fantastic job with the design and I get compliments on our new space constantly. We have a new kitchen, basement, fireplace, floors, doors, etc...and they even switched my basement stairs to go on the other side house. I can't scream Dwelling Indy's praises loud enough. I highly recommend them.

Every project has a setback whether it is a hidden issue, a backorder, or other surprise. This was our second major project with Dan’s leadership, and can attest that he follows through, provides options and keeps a level head through it all. His years of experience really shine through with the care and problem-solving he brings to every detail—design, budget, carpentry, paint and other finishes. He wasn’t happy until we were happy.

Custom designs with every detail meticulously covered! Team members are friendly and clean. Great experience all around! I highly recommend them for any job large or small.

We've worked with Dan on whole house renovation projects and wouldn't want to work with anyone else. We were thoroughly impressed with Dan and his crew throughout our whole home remodel. At every stage, Dan clearly communicated what was happening, addressed any of our concerns and had creative solutions that have made a huge difference in the overall finish to our home (such as framing a bump out for our refrigerator so it is flush with the kitchen cabinets). He and his crew were neat, professional and courteous.

Just a quick note: If you are considering any renovations, repairs, or even bigger projects I most highly recommend Dan McLaughlin (Dwelling Indy LLC) and team. I've worked with Dan on several occasions one being an addition of a garage apartment which was a complicated project at best - his workmanship, planning, design, unfailing integrity and attention to even the smallest detail resulted in a space that was far beyond any expectation. So when it came time to have some work done in my home I immediately thought of Dan - this was a smaller project but with his help we put together an affordable plan, timeline and assurance everything would look beautiful. I was able to leave my home in their trusted hands for 2 1/2 days and come home to a place I barely recognized. New flooring, hardware replacement on all doors, hardware added to kitchen cabinets , outdoor lighting, new exterior doors etc. AND they took the time and effort to replace my furniture so when I walked in I had nothing to move! The quality of work is impeccable and I trust him implicitly.

We hired Dan and his crew to remodel a family home that was built by relatives in the 50's. Dwelling Indy completed the project as promised and handled all hidden issues that can appear when remodeling an old home. When relatives saw the finished work, one commented "Mom would have loved this kitchen". Quality work and experienced, professional crew, Great Job !
