Eric did a lovely job with our extensive, historic, MCM remodel. He has designed a space for us that is beautiful and livable, paying extra attention to the ways that the home's site is able to inform and improve the design. Eric has deep roots in the community and was proactive in guiding us through every step.

Eric Wynkoop of Wynkoop Architecture truly exceeded all expectations. When our home experienced plumbing leaks and water damage, we were forced to completely gut the bathroom. Because we were making major updates, the city required an architect for the permit process. We were stressed and on a very tight timeline. Eric responded immediately, came out to evaluate the space, and had plans drawn up quickly. We were thoroughly impressed by his attention to detail and creative problem-solving—especially how thoughtfully he designed a fully functional layout while working with the sloping ceilings of our historic home. He transformed what felt like a major setback into a bathroom that now feels both beautiful and luxurious, while still respecting the character of the house. Beyond his design talent, Eric is kind, patient, and an excellent communicator. He checked in with us regularly while we awaited permits and made it clear he was always available if we needed support. Since we live two hours away, it meant a great deal that he even offered to meet with our contractor on our behalf to help with lighting solutions. Eric is trustworthy, honest, and a true professional. We will absolutely seek his expertise again for any future design projects and highly recommend him.

We love working with Eric. We are tackling complex problems and it is FUN! We are renovating a historic house, with most of the complications you can imagine. Some of these are previous additions, probable extensive weather damage, and wildly picky and opinionated owners (my husband and me!). Plus of course a budget. Eric is incredibly easy to work with and full of great ideas. He is keeping the project on track and making sure we cover all our bases.

Eric helped us to navigate the requirements of multiple agencies, getting the correct documentation and permits needed on a tight deadline. He was very skilled at asking us the right questions to cut through the static and get to the crux of where we were getting stuck. In that way, he prevented project creep that would likely have been substantial in both scope and cost. He was also very very fair about billing. He provided all documents and verification we needed for our records and has been a great source of local trades referrals (plumbing, electrical. contractor). Eric was very flexible in communication - we met over the phone, on site, and by video-conference as needed by the demands of the project and working around our 'regular' lives. I was interested in an expansion of my master bedroom. I vetted three architects recommended by Houzz. Eric stood out among them. I liked that he was local and was able to view the property. He was a perfect match. After visiting my property and getting to know my design ideas with a Mid- Century Modern aesthetic. Eric along with his assistants drew up wonderful plans, took care of logistics and pushed the permitting right through. He has good knowledge and experience working with the city/county. Our older (built in 70's) home in Seaside, CA needed a lot of work- insulation, new kitchen, bathroom remodel etc. Because of the complexity in remodeling homes in an area with so many regulations, we decided to retain an architect to help us. Best decision we ever made! We found Eric on Houzz. We contacted Eric and he came to our house. Rather than telling us "what we should do", he listened carefully to our goals first then helped us come up with a plan to get it done that met our goals and budget. The net result is simply stunning. But we only got this result because Eric brought in and worked closely with the different contractors. We had plasterers, dry wall, carpenters, plumbers, and electricians in. All of them were punctual, did high quality work, and were mindful that my husband and I were down to 1 bathroom, no kitchen, and no dishwasher for over 2 months. I was able to watch Eric brainstorm with his lead contractors on how to get the best possible value from all the work while giving the house a major major upgrade. The new kitchen is fabulous and our 2nd floor deck with all the new windows has a beautiful view of the bay. Eric guided us through all the steps of selecting a wide variety of materials including new appliances, cabinets, and a number of other details. Eric's attention to detail was amazing and he stayed on the contractors to insure every last detail was attended to. We got great results from the speciality contractors (cabinets, deck coating and others). My recommendation to other homeowners, especially with an older house like ours, is to work with Eric. He is trustworthy, does fabulous work, and most of all he listens to women! My husband and I give Eric a 10/10 in every category.

In 2016 I bought a mid-century home on a ¾ acre lot in a wooded area of Monterey, CA. I came across an article on Eric’s family history on the design influence in the Carmel and Monterey Peninsula and knew I wanted their help and expertise for improving my new home. I made an appointment and met Eric on the property; it did not take long to know that I was in great company and good hands. It was refreshing to see the fire and passion in his eyes with regards to (and keeping) the classic attributes to the mid-century architecture on my property; floor to ceiling windows, polished concrete floors and tongue and groove ceilings. It was important to me not to lose the traditional mid-century style and Eric agreed. Since our meeting, Eric has done a fabulous job working with me to design a garage that blends into my property perfectly and has also demonstrated his eye for landscape design as well as the architecture. I feel very fortunate to have Eric on my team!

Beauty in design with functionality and with approval from the city planners and commissioners...that happens when one has a master architect that knows his business. Eric Wynkoop has immense talent and vision to create beautiful living space for his clients while conforming to codes and regulations for the benefit of all. He brought my small cottage to code so that I could live safely and I hired him again to add more living space which will make life more enjoyable. Holding back the full 5 stars only until we're completed ;) Seriously though, the project has had it's share of challenges (and we expect more) not the least being the city of Carmel itself, some 'backward' California regulations and the previous owner's lack of disclosures (lead paint, asbestos, aversion to building permits and questionably quality home repairs etc). The project promises to make some great lemonade from some serious lemons and we're looking forward to that eventuality.. Eric is doing a great job shepherding us through these challenges and he has great creative ideas but always listens to our various strange and strong willed opinions with aplomb. Eric would be a great choice for any renovation or new home design work.

Eric has done some plans for a master bedroom addition to my home. He has been wonderful. He came up with some designs that I had never even thought of. One of which I chose to be the final plan. I am so excited to be able to see the actual construction of the drawings he made. The plans he is creating for me will enable me to realize a dream I have had for 20 years. The icing on the cake is that it is gong to be even more wonderful than what I had envisioned. People buy houses. Eric has enabled me to make my house a very special home with a private space for me to enjoy and feel pampered. It is hard for me to put into words how much it means to me to be able to take a dream/idea of what I think would be the perfect living space and actually bring that idea into reality. I started with a plan to be "functional". Eric took my ideas and has made my dream into a beautiful (and functional) rendition. I am so pleased with his work and very highly recommend him to anyone wanting to improve their environment.

We bought a house with a lot of potential and hired Eric to design the remodel. We gave him a wish list thinking that having everything will probably be beyond our budget, but Eric meticulously created a design that not only exceeds our expectation but also maximizes the natural resources such as sunlight and view. Eric was also extremely patient in working with us to fine-tune the design. He knew that we are very concerned about the schedule, so he often worked long hours on weekends to buy us time. After the design is finalized, he relentlessly visited the county, the fire department, and the water department, school district, to name a few, to get the design approved for a building permit. He is very creative, very responsive, very patient, very knowledgeable in all aspects of a remodeling project (design, permit, build, contracts, etc.), and always pays great attention to detail. We are very thankful to have him on our team. Thank you, Eric! Now we have all the permits in place, we look forward to continue working with Eric during our build phase.

We hired Eric to design a custom home for our family of four and a second investment home on an adjacent lot. It has been fantastic working with him. He is extremely creative, dedicated, considerate and easy to work with. Eric started the process by considering all aspects of our vacant lots: the terrain, the views, the changing sun angles throughout the seasons, the direction of the breezes, the location of the mature trees, local ordinances, integration into the neighborhood, etc. He also asked us about what styles we liked, what parts of the home were most important to us and what type of living we wanted (i.e. lots of outdoor living and views for us!). He had fantastic ideas and evolved the project with our input. He was very patient with us as our thoughts and ideas evolved throughout the project. The final designs are unbelievably amazing! Aside from the beauty of the homes, he has also made them nearly "zero footprint", taking advantage of heat from the sun, cooling via natural breezes, solar panels, etc. I could never have imagined such a house and yet, the design is perfect for us. We are ready to move on to the permitting stage and could not be happier with our home design and the wonderful opportunity to work with Eric and get to know him, not only as our architect, but also as a friend.

Eric is in the process of transforming my mid 60's problem home into my dream home with an ocean view. Eric is diligently working through compliance issues with the city of Monterey. He has been especially conscientious providing a professional and detailed design that complies with house requirement and with an eye to adding sales value in the long term. I am confident in Eric's competence and expertise as my architect and project partner.

Eric's designs are beautiful and practical. He has great ideas to match every budget and is an excellent creative problem solver. He works well on a team, taking all personalities and ideas into account. His design of our bathroom is beautiful! We had no trouble dealing with the city with Eric. Our massive remodeling project has not yet been physically started, but I am happy to recommend Eric based on his work with us on getting the design just right over the past year. Eric oversaw the renovation of my Galley Kitchen which had never been modified since the house was constructed in 1953. After Eric and I met to discuss my vision for the kitchen he submitted four renovation plans. Eric was very hands on from demolition to ordering cabinets, lighting, flooring and making suggestions on appliances among many other things. The crafts people he brought in to do the remodeling were professional and worked well with Eric. I consider myself fortunate to have had Eric work on my renovation since I had never done anything like this before and would have been lost without his guidance and experience. My kitchen is wonderful and has enhanced my home.
