Beyond Green Construction

Beyond Green Construction recently completed a one-bedroom, 600 square foot ADU in my backyard in Adams Point. It is beautiful! The exceptional precision that Alex brings to every aspect of construction really shows – flush baseboards, trim and walls are flawless; the seams where countertop meets backsplash in the kitchen and where tiles meet wall and floor in the bathroom are immaculate. Working with Alex was a great collaborative experience. He respected my input and perspectives and didn’t condescend like other contractors I’ve worked with in the past. At the beginning of the project he recommended options for the foundation, framing, and drainage, with cost/benefit information that was really helpful to my decision making, and the finished building is rock solid and will always be snug and dry. His guidance as I selected flooring, lighting, cabinets, HVAC, plumbing, etc. was always spot on. He has an excellent eye for design, color, texture, too – a real plus! – and I’m very happy with the final finishes. I also want to say that Alex was always up front with me and transparent with his invoicing, planning, everything, and I would hire him again without question.

I met Alex through a friend and learned about the services that his company, Beyond Green Construction, provides. Alex is a top notch professional; he is very transparent, very knowledgeable about his industry, and passionate about his work. I've worked with him in the last few years for his consulting services for several projects including: 1. Evaluating the current state of my house's electrical wiring, where he provided recommendations (from nice to haves to urgent fixes), rough estimates, and how to review bids. 2. Developing a plan for my drainage in my yard. He and I walked through the lot, pointed out high and low points in my yard, and used tools and instruments to provide accurate measurements. 3. Checking my crawl space for potential structural and foundation issues. After that, he helped me figure out next steps: hiring an engineer, evaluating contractors and their services, and helping me review bids. Since he's been busy, I haven't been able to hire him for major projects for my house, but he's been great to work to get second opinions and additional guidance. However, I am trying to get in his schedule soon to take on a major construction project, since I know that he will deliver high quality results.

Alex was an extremely detailed and thorough contractor. He was by far the most adept and professional GC who bid on my project. Unfortunately the COVID19 recession has made me need to approach this project differently, so ultimately I could not move forward, but Alex was my top pick. As an Owner-Builder with previous experience building in the Bay area, I could tell Alex really knew his stuff compared to the competition. He's an extremely nice guy and was very prompt in putting things together. I hope I have the opportunity to work with Alex in the future.

I’m a little late writing this review. Alex at Beyond Green Construction completed an extensive kitchen and master bath project at our house last November. I’ve been telling many of my friends about the experience, and I figure its about time to tell everybody else too. Choosing Beyond Green Construction completely changed my attitude toward remodeling projects. Alex wasn’t the cheapest bid I got for the project. And I’m sure glad I didn’t go with the cheapest bid. Working with Alex was an total pleasure from start to finish. When my wife approves, I will absolutely use him again for future projects on our house. I came to Alex with a set of Architectural drawings that I had been sitting on for almost two years. In our first meeting, he quickly noticed several issues with the kitchen layout, and suggested several better ideas. He asked a questions about how we use the current spaces, and what our goals were. The next day, he sent me an e-mail with a to do list for updating my permits, and detailed schedule and timeline for ordering cabinets, fixtures, and other finish materials. I had my homework, and we got started almost immediately. Demo was quick. Alex set up my house to look like an episode of Dexter. Plastic dust walls, a hepa filter, and a small team of vacuums kept everything super clean. He did a great job protecting our oak floors and stairs, everywhere. The rooms adjacent to the work areas remained astonishingly dust free for the duration of the project. My wife still talks about that. Alex was conscious of my unruly and curious children, and let the job site clean and hazard free after each work day. When some old rotten posts a few electrical surprises were discovered, Alex immediately pointed out the problems, and took the time to carefully explain our options. He explained the cost and procedure to remedy the issues very clearly. His transparency in dealing with these little surprises showed me that this was a guy I could trust. Alex’s work is.... impressive. I work from home three days a week so i got to see a lot of his process first hand. He’s extremely organized, punctual, and procedural. He’s like a home surgeon, who clearly knows his stuff. Aside from the initial problems found during demo, there were almost no surprises. At the framing stages, he was thinking about all the finish details, tile transitions, lighting layout etc. It was clear that he was always thinking forward to future steps in all the decisions we made together. It’s also worth saying that Alex is just a pleasure to be around. Super duper nice, kind, gentle guy. He kinda became part of the family during the three months he was here. My daughter was excited to greet him and bring him coffee every morning. He was also super responsive. I have a habit of spinning my wheels about details on the weekends. Alex was quick to answer my many annoying questions, and always replied to our texts and emails with thorough explanations. Alex also uses top notch subcontractors (plumber, tile guys, countertop guys etc). Every tradesman that he brought onto our project seemed like a friend, and were also very detail oriented and easy to work with. I could go on... but as they say, “the proof is in the pudding.” When we show our new spaces to our friends and family, “Wow” is usually the first word out of their mouths. Alex and co. nailed every detail. Little things like light switch locations, tile layout details, floor thresholds, plumbing fixture locations.... all ended up juuust right. Its silly, but the crown moldings are probably my favorite part. So crisp!! The only bad thing I can say about Beyond Green Construction is... they made the rest of our house look bad. Thanks Alex! We have lived in our home without a toilet on our first floor for over 20 years! No More. I now have a wonderful half bath. Alex worked with our architect’s design to build a half bath, by breaking through my living room wall into my attached garage, and building a newly imagined space there. Because we were creating an alcove to access this new space, I got the bonus of a new closet. Who doesn’t want more closet space! Alex is a true craftsman, and enjoys his work. When unexpected issues arose, he showed his problem solving skills, suggesting and executing work arounds. He has an abundance of experience which enable him to suggest the best fix. He works with top notch subcontractors, and managed their timing and execution well. I was very please with the detail of his initial bid, because it meant he was really thinking through every step that was needed. This project was no small feet, we had to get water were there wasn’t any before, and get connected into the sewer line under my slate walkway. Things I would never think of, as I just wanted to pick out my pretty Heath Tile pattern, and fixtures. We talked through many things that were not specified in the drawings. For example, Alex made sure the addition used the same baseboard and door trim, so it looks like it was always part of my house. We had to figure out the best transition to the garage, as it turned out to be a different elevation. So we decided to tile the alcove too. Little details like that make a big difference in the finish product. Because of his initial detailed bid, there were very few add services, and the project finished very near to original budget. We had a structural issue with the placement of the alcove opening, but he was able to solve for that, and at a reasonable price. His billing was very clear, the progress payments tied to specific line items, which I really appreciated. Pictures are worth a thousand words. I love my new half bath and closet. Wish we had done it sooner. Thank you Alex!

Beyond Green was selected for a complete rebuild of our basement in ADU. Project started from concrete floors and was managed through to the final details. Alex does great work! He is very meticulous and responsive. As with any project this large, there were a few changes along the way. Pricing and communication around all of the changes was more than fair. I would highly recommend Alex for another project, large or small.

Alex takes a holistic approach to his work and makes sure that all the t's are crossed and the i's are dotted. His work is top-quality. I've hired him several times over the past decade or so, from small jobs to a big addition on my house. I've since moved to SoCal and I keep trying to talk him into taking a "working vacation" to help me with some construction projects down here. :)

I hired Beyond Green to rebuild the exterior stairs on my home. Alex did a wonderful job. He was upfront and detailed with his initial bid. He was very clear when we had to revise the estimate due to unforeseen issues with the structure. He was always happy to either meet in person or talk on the phone to make sure I understood what was changing and why. The quality of the build was top notch. You can tell Alex prioritizes quality and doing the job "right." He was good about making suggestions where he thought the plans were lacking and where he saw areas for improvement. I have received many complements on my stairs from those on my street. I appreciate all the thoughtfulness he put into the project. Due to the type of project Alex spent most of the time working at the front of my house. He was courteous to all my neighbors who would walk by and ask him questions. His good demeanor helped keep an up-beat attitude at the job site.

I highly recommend working with Alex—his work exceeded my expectations. We wanted a staircase built to a small storage loft above our kitchen, and to have the loft space extended. He listened to us describe the addition we wanted and what materials and aesthetics we were going for, and turned that into a perfect design. He was collaborative and open to our choices and suggestions, and had excellent taste in all of his suggestions and choices as well. The finished product is better than I even hoped it would be—his execution and craftsmanship are impressive. I'd hire in again in a heartbeat!

I received about a dozen quotes for an extensive front porch replacement project that had some really challenging aspects. There were 2 sets of stairs, and some footers needed replacement. There were also some very tight time restrictions. Alex came in w a very competitive bid, and some really unique and creative suggestions. We ended up using Azek products. He finished on-time and on budget, even though some unexpected issues arose. He was a pleasure to work with. 5 years later, and I am very happy w the decks durability and looks. I’d be happy to hire him again, and can confidently recommend him.

Alex is a true professional. I needed to convert my basement into a useful space and Alex did not disappoint. He was honest and stayed true to his estimates. More importantly, the project was completed on time. Professionalism, honesty, integrity, and craftsmanship are all values you need in a contractor. Alex is all that.

I reached out to Beyond Green Construction for a kitchen remodel for our condo in Bernal Heights. The owner, Alex came over and within a half hour, I was able to tell him what we wanted and what our budget was and he assured us that it could be done... and it was. It came out so great our place was featured in CurbedSF... Alex made great recommendations when it came to design choices and value engineering. He prides himself on a jobsite that respects the occupants as well as the neighbors, explaining his air filtration setup and noise mitigation techniques. We liked them so much, we had him rebuild our rotten deck at our new house and it came out fantastic. Bomb proof structure and stairs all finished off with Ipe & Redwood, the deck feels like the sturdiest part of the house! Additionally, he has been our "Go to" contractor for several mundane projects from foundation retrofitting & drainage to adding gas lines for appliances. A true all-arounder! We have several more projects to do on our new house (More decks! an ADU and Al Fresco General purpose room to open onto our new deck) and once designed, will be scheduling Alex & his team to make them happen.
