What you need to know: Canseco delivered ahead of schedule, on budget, and with high quality communication and customer service. What they did: This was a big project. They put an addition on our house in South Lake Tahoe, which included digging out a crawl space, creating a new retaining wall and subfloor, finishing a beautiful new room, and dealing with the notoriously difficult and slow county permit office. If you need more details, I have a few to offer: + Commitment: Before Canseco Construction ever did work on our house, we worked with them for 1.5 [unpaid] years through an arduous process with architects, engineers, and permit offices to ensure everything was set up right for our addition. By the time we signed a contract, we had been emailing, calling, and doing site visits for more than a year. + Joy: Before we signed for the big contract, I did a "trial run" project — moving our kitchen island. His team showed up in matching shirts, had a spirited huddle in our front yard, and did the work flawlessly in half the time estimated. That joyful team spirit continued throughout the big project too. We loved hearing the workers sing loudly, laugh, and genuinely sound like they were enjoying one another and the work. AJ has built a tremendous team culture. + Worth Ethic: They often put in 16 hour days to keep things on track. + Flexibility: With big projects, things are going to happen. AJ tried to anticipate each thing that could go sideways once they "opened things up" and give us ranges. That really set us at ease. When things didn't go smoothly (materials, subs, etc) he was always responsive and took ownership — even if something was the fault of another contractor or of the county. + High quality and design: The work was really quite beautiful. The county inspector remarked at how high quality the work got done at such speed. AJ checked in on aesthetics along the way because he knew they were important to me. Working with him as I picked out the necessary materials (closet doors, window sills, things I didn't know very much about) he was very thoughtful and a good design partner. + Communication: Super responsive on text, makes appointments using Google calendar for our phone and in person check ins, remembers my dogs name when he comes. Having a kind, responsive, honest, trustworthy, and joyful team was worth any extra cost we paid by going with Canseco. Thank you AJ and your fabulous team!

Canseco remodeled our entire downstairs, to include master bedroom, master bathroom, and home office. Canseco Construction helped us with updating our kitchen as well as with the design, build, and install of a custom storage closet in our condo. It was a pleasure working with AJ and his team. They are all excellent communicators; they demonstrated patience and willingness to share knowledge by walking us through process rationale—we know more about wood type, grain, and stain now! We also appreciate AJ’s flexibility around communication: we could reach him by text, voice, email, and he even provided an online project management tool to track and memorialize progress. They genuinely listened to our suggestions and concerns, and importantly, took responsibility for any issues that came up during this project and resolved them. Even when an issue came up a few weeks later, AJ worked with us to have his team come over and provide a fix. AJ has deep industry expertise and is an indispensable source of knowledge and resources. He shared with us websites, lists, contacts, you name it, to help us help ourselves. As first-time home renovators we welcomed the focus he provided in helping us find our tile, countertop, lighting, paint, and various hardware. This made us feel a part of the project and because of that we can see our style in the final product. We are thrilled with the result—cooking is fun again and the custom closet is great to look at and highly functional. The quality of the work is superb and we will not hesitate to recommend Canseco Construction to our friends.

AJ and his team remodeled our primary bathroom last fall, and did an excellent job - the quality of the workmanship is outstanding and met our exacting standards (I’m an engineer and my wife is an architect who did the design for our bathroom). AJ specifically was excellent to work with, great communication through the entire process from estimate to contract to work scheduling. He sent us texts every morning with the plans for the day/week and if any changes came up he was quick to alert us. He still checks in with me to make sure no issues have come up since they completed their work (nothing has). The crew was also very nice and respectful of our space during the remodel, they always left the job site clean and as tidy as possible each day. They stayed mostly on schedule, and we encountered only a few issues that had to be fixed. But I’ve done enough work on my 125 year-old house to know that nothing goes perfectly. And when issues did arise, AJ was quick to take responsibility and fix the problems with no questions asked. I don’t know what else you can ask for from a contractor. I got 4 estimates for my bathroom and AJ was very competitive on price and I could just tell he cared about working with quality materials and that’s what sold me on his company. We used handmade tile that a lot of contractors mess up when installing, and AJ and his tile guys were familiar with the product and took all the extra steps to install it correctly. The work speaks for itself, and we’re very happy with the project and feel we got great value for our investment. Everyone who comes into our house remarks about how beautiful the bathroom is. I would have no hesitation hiring Canseco Construction again or recommending them to friends.
