Framework Construction & remodeling

Hired Framework Construction to install a basketball court in my backyard. Received several estimates in same range. Jacob with offered a small discount. The job involved moving my pool equipment, but I was clear, despite Jacob’s various improvement suggestions, I didn’t want to do any work on my pool. Just a few days after the project started, Jacob showed up unannounced to inform me that there were two issues that needed to be dealt with before we could move forward. He said that my pool needed to have a return valve for water flow and quoted several thousand dollars to do it. I questioned him closely trying to understand why a pool that’s worked well for over 20 years old suddenly needed this. He finally said it wasn’t mandatory, but it would be a good thing. I told him I wasn’t interested. He said, “The next problem IS mandatory.” He showed me my water pipes and said that they were the wrong material and had to be changed for safety reasons. The cost – nearly eight thousand dollars! I was devastated. A small project had now ballooned into a major situation where my yard would have to be dug up and about forty feet of piping replaced. I told him to just stop everything while I got a second opinion. At that point, he being too backpedal, saying I didn’t have to replace the pipes if I didn’t want to. I reminded him that he’d said it was mandatory. He backpedaled more. Suspicious, I got two other plumbers to inspect my pipes and both said that there was absolutely no reason to change them. One went so far as to advise me to fire my contractors because they were clearly trying to take advantage of me. That really wasn’t feasible since we were halfway through the job and they already had half of my money. When I informed Jacob, he was very rude and defensive – trying to claim that he’d never said that replacing the pipes was necessary. I finally decided to call the owner to discuss the issue. He never called me back. Instead, I heard from a man named Ron who took over from Jacob because I refused to work with him anymore. Ron was initially more pleasant and helpful, but was slow to respond to calls. Like Jacob, he also shows up unannounced. The next issue was that at Ron’s direction, the workers installed the basketball hoop post off center. When I pointed it out to Ron, he tried to pretend like it wasn’t off center, then conceded it was wrong and agreed to correct it. Long story short, there were other concerns, and other attempts at upselling and when I got upset, Ron dare to imply that I might play games with paying the bill. Unbelievable and unacceptable. At this point, the concrete pad looks fine but the pool equipment still isn’t connected. And there’s still work to be done--a two-week project is now going into its sixth week and counting. Overall, this has been stressful and a hassle that really wasn’t worth the small discount that made me select them. Learn from my lesson and stay away from Framework Construction.
