About Us

Garnett Construction was founded in 2002 and is owned and operated by Wade Garnett. A native to the area, Wade graduated from Hampton High in 1979 and obtained a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Old Dominion University. Wade now resides in York County with his wife Robbie, and two daughters Randi and Haylie. After 24 years of service with Newport News Shipbuilding and retiring in 2004, Wade has been enjoying his now full-time building profession which has been his passion for most of his life. From planning and design through every phase of the construction process, Wade will share your vision of the completed home and will ensure that it is realized in every detail. Our Mission: Happy customers! We'll work with you to create a proposal that focuses entirely on quality and affordability without compromising your desires. This is the third time we have hired Garnett Construction to make improvements on our home, and we have been thrilled with the work every time! Most recently, we had Garnett Construction remodel our master bathroom, and they did a fantastic job. Here's what I love about this company: 1) They really listen to what you want and offer advice and guidance to get there, 2) They are always friendly, respectful, easy to work with, and courteous, 3) They are dependable - arrive when they say and meet their deadlines, 4) If they run into problems (which is inevitable with remodeling!), they work with you to develop a solution that works for your family, 5) They try hard to minimize the impact on your life while they work, including lots of drop cloths for keeping things as clean as possible, 6) They are clearly knowledgeable and can provide great advice, 7) They double check their work and catch any minor flaws before I even noticed, 8) They stay within the budget and let you know if there will be added costs for something you want, and 9) They kindly made a simple improvement when they saw something that needed to be fixed, free of charge. I highly recommend this company; we could not have asked for a better experience.

After beginning the project, Mr Garnett informed us that he had understood us to be seeking to "Flip" our home. We never insinuated or said anything to that affect, as a matter of fact, we told him that we would be spending the rest of our lives in this home. Almost every aspect of the work that he had done to our home has had to be redone, painting, paving, wiring, plumbing, carpeting, etc.. I can say with all honesty, that this has been a disappointing experience from the day that his one and only full-time employee started work. We continue to have plumbing, pavement, oven, diswasher and sink installation problems.

We are deeply sorry that you are not happy with your experience, and that you are having issues with your home. I wish you had contacted us for any problems you may have had. Seeing your bad review, nearly two years after we completed your job is our first indication that you are having ANY troubles and/or that you are unhappy with our work.
It was NEVER talked about you "flipping" your house it was always understood that it was to be a long term residence for the two of you. That is why we suggested for you to do a lot more of the whole house internals than just fixing up a few of the rooms. It seemed that you had more interest in tile, shutters, paint colors, carpet choices, etc than you did the termite damage, rotten floors, old galvanized plumbing, and wiring issues.
Due to the house being built in 1948 there were a number of these items that came up and needed attention, and where put on the "back burner" because you would have had to eliminate an item or two on your original list of wants, due to the budget.
Again please accept our apologies for any problems you are, or may be having with your home.

We gave Wade a pretty complex project and he delivered despite many unforeseen obstacles along the way. I needed to build a multi-generational home on the water in Hampton, VA that was handicap-accessible. My husband has advanced multiple sclerosis and my mother is 75. Building on the lot we owned required unique construction features due to its proximity to the water and regulatory hurdles. We needed a single story home that was elevated to 14+ feet to withstand flooding yet was easily accessible for my husband. We had the initial design but Wade offered suggestions along the way to save money and make improvements. All of his subcontractors were polite and professional and I felt the entire group (including my family) was part of a team in this project. We had extreme challenges in getting services to my lot and were able to successfully resolve these. I am very pleased with the final product. While we went a bit over-budget, this was caused by problems which were beyond the control of Wade. He helped me find ways to cut other areas to minimize the impact of our problems without sacrificing the vision I had for my new home. Wade was patient with my stresses along the way and stayed the course as he guided me through the building process. I also cannot say enough about his team other than they were like part of my family.

Remodel of kitchen, 3 baths, replacement of all windows, elevator instalation, and multiple updates. Construction completed within budget. Excellent coordination of work schedule with subcontractors. Staff and contracted workers were professional, efficient, helpful, and respectful. Helpful suggestions: Heated bath floors, pocket door to barn door, lighting options... We are very pleased with the personalized final product.
