We met with Charlie Murphy several times to discuss the possibility of using Icon Building Group to build our house. Charlie was concerned that they would not live up to our high expectations. In the end, they not only met our expectations, they exceeded them. Icon assembled a talented team to execute the building of our house. They selected a group of subcontractors that had the necessary talents and attention to detail to be able to execute the detailed design that we entrusted to them. The efforts of the subcontractors were carefully guided by our superintendent, Mike P. In the office, Shawna H. did a great job navigating our project thru the challenging City review process. We had several challenges during the project, and the Icon team dealt with them in a positive manner. My wife and I bought our first home in Wheaton recently and wanted to touch up numerous parts of the house, mainly the first floor. Jeremy and a colleague from Icon Building Group came out to walk the house with us. They were upfront that for our scope, mainly some light finish upgrades throughout the space, a handyman type contractor made more sense — but they didn't stop there. They showed us where to focus our time and our money, and helped with design and how to get the most out of the space for what we were willing to spend on it. That guidance was worth more than the work itself would've been. They had no reason to help us that much knowing they weren't doing the job, and they did anyway. Can't recommend them enough.

We just moved into our custom-built home by Icon Builders. It’s been less than a month, but we couldn’t be happier or more thrilled with the end results! Icon is a first class company. Charlie Murphy has put together a team of professionals that guide the entire process with experience and knowledge. From design, permitting, construction, and warranty there is a responsive person that manages the task. They completed our house on time, and the project manager keep us informed throughout with Builder's Trend app by posting photos and updating change orders. We’re still in the planning stage with Icon and haven’t even broken ground yet, but we already have to leave a review because they’ve been that impressive. From day one, these guys have been on top of everything. They answer our questions fast, keep us in the loop, and actually listen to what we want. Welcome Home! We chose Icon Building Group after discovering one of their beautiful communities and diligently researching the company. We started the process with Icon’s owner, Charlie Murphy, who is incredibly responsive and attentive to his clients - personally taking us to visit multiple homes in progress as we worked with their architect and designers to make our vision come to life. Charlie and Jenny (Charlie’s business and life partner) have created a company that is client focused, one that is all about providing a stream lined approach to the new home building process. One where a highly polished project management system allows the clients to partner with the company in all aspects of the build. From the moment we signed our contract, we were assigned a personalized team to include the President of New Construction (Joe A.), Project Manager (Mike P.), Design Consultant (Kara), Cabinet Design Consultant (Natalia) and Permits/Accounting Coordinator (Shawna). Each of these individuals are standouts in their field and walked with us through every part of the process. We were never treated as a number to Icon, but as valued members of the team working to create our new home from the ground up. We moved into our new custom built house in February 2026, almost exactly ten months after Icon broke ground; absolutely incredible in an industry famous for delays. Icon’s owners and staff truly made the home building process as seamless as possible; always taking the time to listen, address our questions and concerns, and provide mutually agreed upon solutions. We felt supported throughout the process and always valued as clients. Finally… our house is gorgeous! We walked into Icon Building Group with big ideas for a custom Japandi style house (Scandinavian meets Japanese) and they made our dreams come to fruition. Kara consistently had creative design ideas to produce the look we wanted while keeping within budget; she has beautiful taste and the ability to tailor ideas to individual client styles. With Joe at the helm as President of new Construction, we made it through the process of building our custom home with so few hiccups and so little stress that it seems unparalleled in the industry. We are grateful to the entire Icon team for all of their attention to detail. We couldn’t be happier with the quality of our new home and our overall experience with Icon Building Group.

Late last year we moved into our newly built home in Vernon Hills. The home was custom built by the Icon Building Group. We were glad that we chose Icon group to be our builder as our experience with them was exceptional and phenomenal from the get go until the completion of the building. All of its team members in the group including the founder Charlie Murphy and president of the construction Joe Augello were very helpful in the decision process. Following our move into the new home Sandy Novak continues to address any anticipated and unanticipated glitches. Can’t say enough what a positive experience we had working with Ryan Muehling & team on home remodeling projects. As our project manager, Ryan worked with us to understand our needs, goals, and budget and helped us bring our vision to life. We’re incredibly pleased with the work quality - all of the subs Ryan chose were fantastic - and miraculously we were able to accomplish what we wanted while coming in under budget and staying on time. Ryan did a great job setting expectations and keeping us informed throughout construction. I think the most powerful testament we can give is that we’re about to kick off another phase of work with Icon!

The project manager really listened to us. He made suggestions based on his experience but he didn't force us to do anything we didn't want to do. There were times we specifically asked him to decide based on his experience with reliability or similar issues, and he did tell us which choice would best meet what we were trying to do. As with any project, there are things you notice after it's "done." For example, we put in a heated floor and it wasn't properly heating. They came back to help us, and it was probably that we didn't set it, properly. Nonetheless, they came and helped us figure these things out. The project manager was great about keeping us informed with regard the schedule and did not tell us off the couple of times we had to ask not to have people come to the house, after all. He understood we still had activities and events of our own, too. Initially, we were going to do this all ourselves. But it's kind of overwhelming to find all the people you need to remodel even a small bathroom, you have no real leverage to get all the varieties of work to be done back-to-back to just finish it, and even though we tend to be of a more save-money-do-it-yourself mindset, this is where having a project manager and a company with all the right contacts is a great idea and worthwhile.

The ICON team was nice to work with. They were quick to respond to questions. They kept us informed through BUILDERS TREND where it was fun to see the progress, and we were able to make sure our preferences were being followed. The house turned out beautifully, and the neighborhood surrounded by a nature conservancy is gorgeous with so many trees and animals. We appreciate the close proximity of so many stores, restaurants, and major roads just outside our peaceful neighborhood.

We built our first home with Icon and it went better than we could have expected. We enjoyed working with the entire Icon team and would definitely use them in the future.

My daughter chose Icon for their remodeling when they first purchased their home. It was a fairly extensive project. We bought a fixer-upper home in Barrington with amazing Mid-Century-Modern bones knowing it was going to be quite a project to update! Icon has touched nearly every room in our house. We now have the kitchen and master bathroom of our dreams thanks to Icon, as well as new flooring throughout and a few other odds and ends. Jenny is great at helping bring our vision to life while honoring the original MCM vibe of the home! They are professional, clean, and prompt. We have a few more projects to go in our house and we can't wait to work with Icon again!

Had a wonderful experience building our new home with ICON from start to finish. Charlie is a man of his word and everything he promised up front was delivered. We had a fantastic designer in Angela Smith who really zeroed in on our vision and made the design process very smooth and easy for us, even trying to build a home in IL while living in TX. Adrian, our project manager was fantastic and could not have been more on top of our build throughout the process. Our completion date was set for 12/31 and we wanted to be moved in for the kids to spend Christmas in their new home; Charlie and Adrian bent over backwards to work with the village and trades to expedite the final stretch and was able to get us moved in early on 12/22 and the kids were able to have their Christmas tree up, which really meant the world to us. We had such a positive experience that we have a family member who has also decided to build a new home with ICON. Many thanks to Charlie and his whole team for our beautiful home!

We are very happy we chose Icon to build our dream house. Everyone was always very responsive to our many questions. Working with Sheryl our design consultant was delightful, she was very patient with our questions and had numerous suggestions and ideas. Our project manager Mike, made everything right. He took care of anything that "wasn't just quite right" and incorporated our late changes seamlessly. Prior to our 1 year anniversary, we hired an inspector to go through our home looking for any issues - that inspector was impressed and said that our home was well constructed. We would definitely recommend Icon to anyone who is looking to build a custom home.

The builder attempted to finalize the deal despite the 'swamp' conditions in the backyard of the property, which you can see in the attached picture. They insisted they had obtained the certificate of occupancy and wouldn't make any alterations. Ultimately, I had to spend $4500 plus fees for an attorney and village inspector to demonstrate that the fault lies with Icon Building Group My disappointment deepened when Icon Building Group didn't address the problem after regrading. I incurred additional expenses by having to hire a village inspector to establish their mistake. As a customer, if you're indifferent to financial losses and fluctuations in interest rates because of their delay, please choose the builder Furthermore, my house, worth about $1.8 million, appears to be a small concern for their larger business. The owner shows little concern about losing customers. Instead of collaboratively resolving issues, they employ several lawyers to engage in disputes. Unfortunately for the builder, their lawyers are far from excellent, often having to rectify their mistakes after engaging in pointless arguments I must acknowledge that Tim and Mark were instrumental in resolving many issues. Their proficiency in their roles is commendable. As a result of their assistance, I've decided to upgrade my review rating from one star to two stars

Wow! I cannot express how happy we are in our new home due to the excellent work ICON Builder did building our new forever home. From our first meeting with Charlie, start to finish, the process was both enjoyable and seamless. The Buildertrend tool kept us up to date almost daily. We loved watching our home “GROW” from land clearing to landscaping. We cannot be happier. Special thanks to Charlie for his inspirational support. We contracted with Icon to renovate the entire interior of our home, along with some exterior work, on the North Shore. The entire team has been flawless from start to finish with fantastic communication, exceptional timing, and a beautiful product. Given the scope of work associated with redoing an entire home, we were concerned with our vision coming to life, but Icon was able to exceed expectations across the board.

My fiance and I bought a new home that needed a lot of TLC. We contracted Icon Building Group to renovate our 2,285 sq ft house and I couldn't recommend them more. When my husband’s job relocated us to the Chicago area from California, we were under a tight timeframe to find and buy a new home. Quite by accident we found the community of Hawthorn Place by Icon Building Group located in Hawthorn Woods. Right from the start, we were impressed with the quality of the homes built by Icon. We looked at three different homes that were available at that time and fell in love with the first one that we originally walked through. We met Charlie Murphy, the owner of Icon that first day. Lucky for us, his office just happened to be located in the model home in our new neighborhood. We did our research on Icon, and discovered they have at least 10 new home communities throughout the Chicagoland area and also specialize in new custom homes and remodeling. Their homes are hands down gorgeous – whether new builds or remodels. From start to finish, Charlie was super to work with. What really made our experience great was his availability. He would answer all of our calls, texts, or e-mails no matter what time of the day. The whole process felt very personal. While our new home was near perfect to what we were looking for, there were a few things on our wish list that we wanted. Right from the start, Charlie put us in touch with his Design Center Manager, Angela, who started the process while we were still back in California preparing for our move. Our project included adding a basement bar/kitchen with an island, a feature wall w/floating shelves (Charlie’s idea) and a built-in electric fireplace in the great room, crown molding throughout the downstairs, and extra cabinets in the laundry room. What we liked most about working with Angela is that she helped us make decisions that kept the rooms in harmony overall – especially the finished basement. Sometimes it was hard to visual the finished look, and she helped us by showing us pictures and different samples as we decided on tile, cabinets, backsplash etc. She was also very patient when we had a few changes along the way. Rachel, our lead project manager, was invaluable during the entire project. She was always courteous, on time, helpful and above all resourceful. Rachel did an excellent job of communicating exactly what was going on the entire time. She stayed in constant communication with all of the contractors, and addressed any issues that came up regarding scheduling, materials, etc. What we liked the most was that she would stop by nearly every day that work was being done, to make sure everything was on track and give us updates. We know we weren’t her only project, but we sure felt like it. As with any projects, a few hiccups came up along the way, but anytime this happened the Icon team was quick to respond and resolve the issue. We would like to especially thank Joe, Icon’s VP of Purchasing & Design who came to the rescue several times when we needed to make some last-minute changes on a few design choices and clear up some miscommunication. He was very fair and reasonable with his solutions, and we were happy with the outcome. Lastly, we want to give a shout out to Sandy, our Service/Warranty manager. While all of the exciting upgrades were happening, she was available to resolve any issues we identified during the original walkthrough. She was responsive and professional. Everything on our list was followed up on and resolved to our satisfaction. We love our new Icon home, and the upgrades we had done turned out better than we even imagined. If you are thinking of buying a new home, building a custom one or remodeling, we highly recommend Charlie and team at Icon Building Group. We promise you won’t be disappointed.

We started planning our home with ICON a year ago and now we have moved into a well built beautiful home. The house took much longer then expected to finish but when done, we are very impressed with the details and craftsmanship. Two people who deserves special mention are Mike Fleming(our project manager) and Sheryl Myhre( our designer). If not for Mike, we would have not had our home ready in time to close. At the end, we are very happy with our home.

The Icon Building Group has completed various home remodeling projects for me over the past few months. Projects included installing a new stair railing including spindles and newels to installing recessed lighting to installing a paver brick pathway. Every project was done with precision and care. Every recommendation I received was spot on. I highly recommend using Icon for any remodeling project. If I were to build a home from scratch, I would not hesitate to call them too. I know I would be in good hands with them.

Icon did a fantastic job remodeling our master bathroom. Sam, our designer, and Mike, the lead contractor were awesome! They worked incredibly well as a team - great attention to detail, super responsive, hard working and really kind and fun people! We live in a condo in Chicago and the Icon team was very respectful of our building's construction policies and procedures, which we really appreciated. The bathroom turned out great and was even finished early. We highly recommend that you call Icon if you are doing any remodeling!

I had to have my house completely rehabbed. They were amazing! They transformed my house to a house that sold in days! They are amazing.!

I live in Vernon Hills and noticed a bunch of signs with the Icon Building Group name. I reached out and talked with the owner, Charlie. I explained the job and he turned me over to his daughter (Sam). Sam was such a pleasure to work with. She is absolutely awesome and after meeting with her, I knew we had to use Icon for our basement remodel. Sam has been with us every step off the way. Mike was our direct contact through the remodel. Mike went above and beyond to not only complete the remodel that Icon was hired, but also to multiple add ons during the project. All the contractors used were professional, clean and absolutely great at their various trade. Overall, I would like to give the highest possible rating to the Icon Building Group. We have just completed a remodeling of an apartment in a senior community with ICON as our general contractor. The project manager, Joe Stelzer, was outstanding to work with. He and his team were able to take our ideas, help improve upon them, and complete the project, allowing us to relish in our ultimate expectations. We've lived in our custom home that Icon built for a year now (Vernon Hills) and I must say the 1-year warranty process with John Cygnar has been great. Considering Covid hit the year we moved in, John made accommodations to have service/contractors do thorough jobs on any finishing touches that needed to be addressed even after the 1-year mark hit. John is very communicative, responsive, and flexible with our schedule. We are very happy with our home with Icon Builders.

ICON built our dream home and we had the most positive experience from start to finish. We reached out to ICON to inquire about their Lakewood development and Charlie reached out to us immediately on New Year’s Day to answer our questions and set up a day to meet with our family. It was such a pleasure starting the building process and designing the layout of our home with Charlie. The entire ICON team was just phenomenal. Their customer service skills, communication, and support was second to none right from the beginning. Sean was extremely helpful in the beginning phases of our build and was so prompt in answering questions we had and providing us with all of the detailed information we needed to make informed decisions regarding the structure of our home. During the planning/design phase, Mark and Kristi helped us tremendously in designing our dream kitchen and picking out every detail of our home. They were so helpful and patient and made such an intimidating process so seamless. Once ICON started the building process, our project manager, Chris, did an amazing job explaining the process and constantly keeping us up to date. He would meet us on site throughout the building process and provide us with updates and answer any/all questions we had. He ensured our home was built with the quality craftsmanship that represents all ICON builds and kept the build right on schedule throughout the entire process. My family and I visited Hawthorn place and met with Charlie Murphy back in June 2020 and I cannot begin to say how happy we are with our experience with Charlie and his team. Charlie is very knowledgeable and experienced, he did understand our home requirements very well. Charlie and his team are very nice to work with and really helped make our vision a reality. This is our first experience of building new house. We learn a lot from Angela Smith, (Design Consultant) and Kristi Warrenfeltz (Cabinet Design consultant) during our selection process. Angela went out of her way to understand our reequipments and provided every possible solution to our requirements. Angela is knowledgeable with extensive access to fine affordable materials. She was always prompt to response our several questions. Specially we like the part that she was available even during weekends. Angela is an excellent example of integrity. Rachael Wallis helped us, even after her working hours, getting required documents during our closing times. She is dedicated towards her work. We are having pleasant experience working with Chris Bond (Project Manager) and Carson Bernard (Assistant Project Manager). Even though there are several challenges about material supplies (due to pandemic situation), Chris and Carson kept our schedule on time and our Closing happened exactly on time. We purchased a new ICON home through a realtor about a year ago. We also contracted ICON to finish the basement for us. All post sale services and the basement project by the construction manager Mr. John Cygnar have been outstanding. He responded to our inquiries 24/7 and provided outstanding support. Mike Fess (Icons finest) coordinated my home repair with excellent attention and professionalism! Despite it not being a large project he was available and responsive to all questions and concerns I had. Worked with insurance for me. Was on time and upfront with the schedule and availability of subcontractors. Provided options on how to best complete the project Also provided input on other project I am taking on around the house that were not related to the project he was being paid to manage. Highly suggested!

My husband and I met with Charlie back in September 2019 and from the start we knew that ICON was the contractor that was going to build us our dream home. The moment we signed our contract in January 2020, ICON hit the ground running! While we did encounter some hiccups in the process, overall we were very satisfied with our end result. Icon Building Group completely renovated our apartment in Naperville, including flooring, cabinets, removing walls, paint, etc. Throughout the entire remodel, the crew was always extremely tidy, and did a perfect job; there was no mess or dust left behind anywhere. After we moved into our apartment, we had Icon come back to open up one of the walls to add support for a 90lb mirror they were hanging, and again, they left no mess on the carpet or any surfaces. Joe did a great job communicating with us throughout the construction process, completing the apartment on time, and delivering everything we asked for perfectly. We are extremely happy with all the workers and with the final product. We trust Joe and Icon Building Group to complete any future jobs for us. We highly recommend Icon Building Group.

I would definitely recommend Icon Building Group. My experience with Sean Burke was excellent and I was very impressed with how knowledgeable he was in all aspects of our unique project. I had a contract to purchase some lake property. There was an existing structure on the lot which we were going to tear down to build our home. Due to the lot being on the Lake Michigan, there were added complexities and issues we needed to contend with. Sean worked with the WDNR and the Village to determine the lot restrictions, setback issues in addition to the erosion protection requirements to build a new house. These were unusual issues most people don’t need to contend with. Needless to say, Sean uncovered some very costly items that we would have needed to expend in order to build our dream lake house. As a result, we walked away from the purchase of the property. I am grateful Sean uncovered these costly issues. Not only was Sean responsive and knowledgeable, he was upfront about costs and was honest in his feedback about some of the ideas I had about had our project. I will definitely use Icon for our future projects.

I used Icon to consult with me concerning concrete repairs to my home. I met with Sean Burke, the company's Vice President of Operations, and found him to be extremely responsive and knowledgeable. He was able to give me helpful ideas of alternatives I had not considered which saved me time and money. I happened to talk to Charlie Murphy while I was in search of our dream home. I didn’t have an idea then that we will buy/build new custom luxury home. After talking to Charlie and seeing 4 Icon homes that he asked me to visit, we were clear that we wanted modern, spacious and quality home from Icon. Everything thereafter was seamless buying experience. I started working with Chris Bond getting our home ready for closing and also our basement designed and finished. Chris miraculously pulled our marvelously done basement in 5 weeks. Every fit and finish were done so well. Since then for each of our question and need I have been working with Chris and he is always responsive and helpful. We have been living in our Icon home for last 3 months and every day loving it more. Home design is so well thought through and every work is done so well.

It has been a few years since we moved into our custom ICON home in Kildeer Illinois. Our family searched for the right location and more importantly the right builder to deliver our dream home. Honestly it was the best builder decision we made. The ICON team was 1st Class – from start to finish. Taking conceptual ideas to plans, picking out a variety of interior and exterior finishes, then watching the build process – the staff was engaging and informative. At times the process for those new to custom home building can be intimidating and stressful. As long as you keep open lines of communication established across the ICON team, and you support the build deadlines (selections), you will be satisfied. We felt very comfortable dealing with a variety of contractors and suppliers they have in place. Even after we made a few changes to our original plans, they met our delivery date. Yes there were a few post-delivery issues - nothing out of the ordinary. They all were handled quickly and to our complete satisfaction. If/when we decide on our next big project or move, we will be talking again Charlie. Thank you ICON team!

ICON completed our kitchen renovation in ~2016 and bathroom(s) renovation in ~2018. They were professional, flexible, timely and transparent in all aspects of the project. The deadlines and budgets were well managed, and if an issue occurred there was a communication with a mitigation plan in order to stay on track. The quality of the work and contractors used were outstanding. The eye for creativity, style and design was incredible. Offerings and alternatives from the most expensive to most reasonable were always presented with pros and cons, but always the customer's choice. In today's reality, the customer and their expectations are always first. At the end of the day, ICON exceeds those expectations!

The Icon Building team was able to build our forever home with budget conscious minds and with a vision for the future. Mark Moreno made the selection process fun and exciting. And Chris Bond and Mike Fess were always very response and attentive with all our questions and concerns through out the process. We are so excited to grow our family and make memories in our beautiful home in Wisconsin.

Icon Builders renovated our newly purchased (30 year old) townhouse. From top to bottom, Every room was transformed, and I mean EVERY! From our new kitchen to our beautiful new bathrooms. Jenny and Mike guided us through this renovation. Jenny helped with design choices, transforming our new home. Tile, flooring and cabinet choices. Mike took care of the daily details as our project progressed, making suggestions when we were unsure. They are wonderful to work with. I can not imagine having completed this project without Icon Builders.

Icon remodeled our kitchen. We gutted the entire kitchen with the exception of the flooring. Icon’s team was really great to work with at all stages. Jenny and Christy helped us build the plan and select the layout and all the hardware. We were very particular and they helped us meet all our goals for our dream kitchen. During the installation, Mike and the installation team was awesome. Mike dealt with any issues that came up and handled them in stride. Overall, our experience was very positive and would recommend them to anyone.

I contracted with ICON to build a new primary residence. The project was on time and on budget. Customizations were made available and completed as promised. Quality of work was excellent. We hired Icon to build our dream home and its by far the best decision we've made. We are first time home buyers and building a custom home was talked down by our family and friends saying it is time consuming and a very complicated process. When we met with Charlie and spoke to him about our requirements, he put our mind at ease. We knew for sure we were in the right hands. Sean actually went through the very complicated process of dealing with permits from our Village. Mark helped us pick out our selections, very carefully keeping us on track with our budget. Once the construction started Chris, our project manager was very communicative and kept us updated on the work happening at the site. He scheduled tours for us to visit during various stages of work. Kristi designed our cabinets beautifully by helping us make wise choices. From breaking ground to moving in, it was roughly 5 months (though the permits took a while. because - village). Most of our neighbors told us that this was the fastest a builder completed a project in our subdivision. The next closest one was 13 months. So, essentially, time saved = money saved. We are very happy with our home and love living here.

Icon built a custom house for us, finished July 2019 and we cannot express how happy we are with their service and our new house. It is everything we have ever dreamed of. ICON is a custom home builder. They built a house for us. And while it took some time and effort to get through the process, end result was worth it. It was better than we expected and the quality of work was again better than we expected. After completion we found very few minor things that needed to be addressed and they were addressed quickly. Communication was good throughout the process.
