We hired Rex Horton (Omega Construction) to do an add-on to our home. It really wasn't a very complicated project- extend the kitchen, add an office, a little bit of flooring, and some cabinets. The project (which was supposed to take 6-8 weeks) was behind from the start. While 3 weeks of delay were due to weather, the rest was due to Rex and his crew doing shoddy work and not knowing how to proceed. Rex did not use reliable enough people to ever be able to go with "plan a" on any single step of the project after the digging of the hole for the foundation. The concrete had to be done by a backup crew. And in fact, the concrete is the only usable part of the work that Rex and his crew did. The floor joist that were placed for the new part of the floor in the add-on did not meet code. The wall framing, which should have taken a few days, took 3+ weeks and was not done correctly- including headers that were undersized and not the proper thickness, a wall not in the right place, a pantry that is crocked in every way possible, etc. In fact, the headers that were put in above the windows and doors, if left, would have necessitated either bending the doors & windows or bending the sheet rock. Rex saw no issue with them. So they moved on to the roof. Their first attempt at a roof had no straight lines or flat planes what-so-ever. The crew (his sons) were having to sit on the decking just to be able to nail it to the frame work. When I went up to walk on it, it bounced like a suspension bridge. We called Rex with our concerns and told him it needed to be ripped off. We also told him we were concerned that he was almost never here working or supervising his young sons. He said he would start being more present and supervising, but that never happened. Their second attempt at a roof was no better. Again, we made them rip it off. But this time we demanded a different crew to do the job. The third roof, while sturdier, was still twisted, had dips all over the place, and did not line up with the original roof. Rex then moved on to shingles. It took three different attempts to simply tar paper the roof and then a "plan c" crew finally put down the shingles. The shingles looked like a child put them on. The guy obviously didn't know what he was doing. No straight lines any where and shingles were slopped all over the place. And in the midst of all of this it was one of the wettest summers in recent history. Rex did almost nothing to keep the project dry and didn't seem to care that 5 different times the water rained and flooded into my house- ruining the carpet in my living room and one closet, soaking into and molding my ceiling, causing massive black mold growth under my house, and rotting the original rim joist under my living room. We also paid Rex extra money to seal the original house (which wasn't wrapped) and put house wrap on it. They left the house wrapping over the vents on the house, making it impossible to dry out the now super damp crawl space. When they put the siding back up on the house, it was crooked, mismatched, and falling off. After 14 weeks, Rex emailed me saying he was quitting. I am now left with a disaster of a project. He took a huge amount of money from me, refuses to take my phone calls, and won't return the materials (tile flooring, hardwood flooring, a sliding glass door, and siding) he claims to have purchased with my money. I have had a building inspector write up this project and not a single thing that Rex and his crew touched passes code. It all has to come down and I now have to pay someone a large amount of money to fix everything that Rex damaged. I also now have in my possession a legal background check on Rex Horton. I firmly believe that everything he ever told me is a lie. He told us he has been in business for 20 years- not according to the background check. In fact, he was sentenced to three years in prison for writing bad checks over and over and doing bad business. He has a record a mile long of doing poor work and people suing him for it. And look up Rex Horton and his crew (Aaron and Zach) they all have a series of mugshots. In my opinion (and the building inspector's) I would also stay away from Gabe Wood who did a terrible job framing our roof and Matt Tucker of Virtu-Del LLC who did a horrendous job shingling our roof. Oh and on top of everything, Rex never got a dumpster for our job- leaving trash, debris, nails, etc in my yard- killing the grass and endangering my young child and dog. STAY AWAY FROM REX HORTON (OMEGA CONSTRUCTION) and all those listed in this review. We went out of our way to try to support a family business, and he took advantage of ours.
