BCI Homes did an excellent job on our home. They are very professional, know the right contractors to use and we couldn't be happier. Their customer service is what matters to them. Everyone is friendly and helpful while getting things done timely Mr. Lipe has a true sense of pride in their craftsmanship from start to finish.

My team at Green Zone Home provides energy efficiency rating and evaluation services for BCI Custom Homes. We evaluate thousands of homes yearly in central Texas. BCI Custom Homes goes far beyond the base standards by using advanced insulation, equipment, and other components. They also voluntarily work to have their homes certified and labeled with the Energy Star for Homes program of the federal government. These extra efforts lead to increased comfort and lower operational costs.

Building a new custom home can be frustrating for people who don’t do it regularly. Tommy and BCI Custom Homes are a team that you can trust and make it a rewarding experience. I’ve worked on more projects than I can count with BCI Custom Homes since 2002 and in my experience he is great at giving each client the attention and the personal care that they deserve. While I have worked with lots of builders over the years, BCI happens to be the only Energy Star Certified Builder I have worked with. Tommy keeps up with the latest in building science and is extremely conscientious about how operating and maintenance cost of the future are impacted by what he builds for you today. In the end, our design clients spend more time with the builder than they do with us. There are plenty of builders who start out strong. Tommy and his team have been building for decades and he knows that in the end it is about doing a great job of finishing the project.

I am writing this review for the express purpose of saving someone from experiencing the issues that my husband and I went through by building with BCI Custom Homes. Let me first preface that we did not have an option on which builder we used. BCI owned the property so, no choice but to use them as the builder. If you do have a choice, I would strongly recommend against building with BCI. The owner and his crew never took true ownership of the job; at least not to what you would expect from a “custom” builder. They placed drawings on the job site; drawings that were not complete or accurate and allowed the contractors to come and go as the work needed to be done. Quite often a trade would be working with no one from BCI on the job site. The contractors did their best with the limited information they were given. There were times when they would show up with absolutely no direction. This lack of communication, with the trades, created cost overruns that we had to pay at closing. There were even times when we were on site and they would ask us questions. I felt like we were the general contractor of the job. There was a lot of “we will fudge it in and if we have to, we will fix later.” For example, stone trim, for around the fireplace opening, was cut, on location from a large section of rock. The cuts were uneven and quite unattractive. We were told that it would be “cleaned up” later when they were installed. Well, they were cleaned up later but the trim looks like it was patched and is not what you would expect. This builder works from a “reactive mode” rather than a “proactive” mode. I can’t tell you how many times we would alert the foreman about a potential problem only to be ignored and then the problem occurs. Quite frustrating. The communication between BCI and us was almost nonexistent. We would e-mail or call, and rarely did we get an answer to our questions. It seemed like the only time we would hear from BCI was when they needed money released from our bank. There was no attention to detail during the build. As I said the contractors would come and go as they pleased with no one checking their work. I could go on but the main thing I want to express is look elsewhere for your builder. This was an experience that should have been an exciting time for us and BCI turned it into a nightmare which unfortunately continues as we try to get warranty items fixed. At this time, we have given up and are paying other contractors to fix BCI’s work.

Could not have asked for a better group of people (builder and subcontractors) to work with and depend on for building our home. They cared for the building of our home as if it were their own. Quality of work was exceptional. Even the building inspector that I hired was over the moon with quality of build and details that he reviewed. Would recommend highly.

We talked to several local builders about building a custom home. We decided to go with BCI Custom Homes because of the exceptional value they offered at a reasonable cost. BCI personnel assisted us by converting our drawings (self designed) to workable blueprints. They also assisted us with specifications that included energy efficient items such as radiant barrier roof decking, LowE windows throughout, excellent insulation package, and Energy Star appliances. (We were pleasantly surprised when our first electric bill was $85) BCI built a quality home with excellent materials and labor, and we are very happy with the finished home. Better yet, they did this while staying within our initial budget for building this home. We would highly recommend BCI Custom Homes to anyone considering building a custom home.

He showed us a few lots in Boerne he had available and went over the home building process and our concerns in great detail. Highly recommended for anyone looking to have a home built!
