The design process with Brian and the team felt easy and pressure-less. He made endless revisions to our unique home and his advice was always practical. Our project manager, Brad, was methodical and always took the time to listen during our site meetings. As with all major construction projects, we had some challenges but we were always reassured by all members of the Maple Leaf team (including their tradespeople) that every effort was being to mitigate the circumstance. Even after taking possession of our new custom home, the team has been here to service any issues or requests for additional work. The quality of the design and construction speaks for itself. We’ve created a home that is both spectacular and functional. It is truly an extension of our thoughts and dreams. Doing a custom build is overwhelming to say the least. Referred by a friend, we approached Maple Leaf Custom Homes to help design and build a modern, mid-century inspired bungalow. The process was extremely collaborative with numerous back and fourths to get the floor plan just perfect. When we received the first exterior concept sketch we knew we were in good hands — it was perfect, it was our vision! We moved in on schedule, 10 months after breaking ground. During the construction phase we were impressed by their back-end project management system to keep track of every single detail including change requests. On the personal side we got to know the trades quite well, their names and their stories — a great bunch of guys. When you embark on the biggest project and investment of a lifetime, you don’t know what you don’t know. Maple Leaf helped guide the process so that smart decisions were made along the way with no regrets in the end. We built our dream home with Maple Leaf and it was a truly amazing experience from start to finish. From the design process where the team really listened to our needs and incorporated them into the plans to the construction which was meticulously managed by our project manager. Building a house, especially the first time, is one of those pivotal events in a family's life. You know it's going to be OK when after the first meeting with Fred you end each other's sentences. But that's the beginning, the "pie in the sky" meeting. Next is taking those fluttering ideas and put them on a CAD drawing. That's where Brian and Steve, MLH' trusted collaborator, put you at ease. They got it, they understand what you want and translate that into construction-ready documentation. And yes, they graciously move that wall, the fifth time, by 3 inches, so that everyone (aka the girl with a dream...) is happy. So far, so good, but how about starting the construction in the first week of December, with the notoriously cold and snowy winters in Ottawa? Not a problem says Brad, the PM that never sleeps (or at least that's what we suspect...). Throw on top of that, the mother of all disruptions, a global pandemic with deep and long-term impact on everything you do or need when you build a house. Not a problem for the MLH team. Oscar will always find a workaround to an unexpected challenge that proves to be an even better option than the original plan. We moved into the new house on the date marked in the contract! Miracle? A little bit, I'd say, given all the challenges thrown at us by Covid and supply chains. Happy? Beyond our expectations. We are enjoying the house every day, it's a bliss. Maple Leaf Custom Homes is the definition of professional. We cannot be happier with the job they did on our new house build. It started with Fred and Brian in the initial pre-con stages discussing project details and preliminary frame work of the design. We were on the same page from day one. During construction our project manager Jason represented us from start to finish, if there was ever any issues he was quick to remedy or give us potential solutions that were in many cases better then the original design. Not satisfied. I expected better quality from Maple Leaf Custom Homes. For example the garage floor is not near level, out by close to 1 inch side to side where the doors meet the floor. The floor slopes from either side into the middle, this is not standard in my oppinion.

The MLCH team did a great job in building our house, from excavation to the finishing touches, and they came in on budget. Their brand of service is professional and personable, a great team to deal with. When unforeseen issues arose in relation to design, MLCH came up with innovative solutions that preserved, and even enhanced, our vision for the house. They were responsive to our questions and knowledgeable in their answers. They delivered a high quality product and are good about doing follow up work when needed. We highly recommend the MLCH team.

Having never built a custom home before and living outside of Canada when our project began, we knew we needed to find a trustworthy builder. Our initial search on Houzz narrowed us down to three custom home builders. After researching Ontario's Tarion home warranty system, Maple Leaf Custom Homes (“MLCH”) was the only company still operating under their original corporate entity, and having no reported claims. In addition, we liked that MLCH would act as both architect and general contractor. Our project began with Fred helping us pick the property. Next, we selected and purchased a house design on houseplans.com. Brian from MLCH used these plans as a starting point for our final design, converting them to local standards and making many improvements for us. Our drawings were finalized with care and attention. Before breaking ground, we worked Brenda, one of MLCH’s contract interior designers, to make all our trim and detail selections. I highly recommend doing this in advance. This gave us full visibility of our costs before site work started, and gave no cause for delay. Except for a few very specific upgrades and changes we made during the build, there were no extra costs when the project was completed. We were very pleased not to have to deal with any financial games or surprises. MLCH’s financial honesty was top-notch. Reflecting on the actual construction phase, I commend the company for their commitment to making the customer experience as smooth as possible. Every time there was a problem, MLCH communicated well with us and did the right thing. We moved in when our temporary occupancy permit was issued, and worked with MLCH to resolve a relatively long list of open items. That phase of the project was probably the most challenging for us, but after the work was fully complete, we are very satisfied with the quality, appearance, and function of the house. I can say with confidence that Maple Leaf Custom Homes’ owners and employees are among the most likeable and trustworthy I’ve ever met. Their commitment to customer satisfaction is sincere. If we ever build another house in the Ottawa area, I know we’d build with MLCH again and I’m happy to recommend them to others.

Every day we look at our home and can't believe it's ours! Living in Beaverbrook for the past ten years, we knew this is where we wanted to stay. We were living in a semi, but we always kept our eye open for a bungalow. Finally one came up. However, it was in very rough shape. Having been highly recommended to us from friends, we contacted Maple Leaf Custom Homes. This project was a 75-85% renovation of the home, stripped down to the studs and a complete remodel of the main floor plan. We worked with an interior designer to have the proper flow to the floor plan, but when we brought the final plans to MLCH, Brian pointed out some areas he thought would be an issue. His recommendations and changes were spot on. Their commitment to making sure their customer has the best space possible is one of the many things we believe set MLCH apart from other home builders. In 4 months they turned the place into something we could in the past only dreamed of, and we simply can't thank them enough for their hard work, craftsmanship, attention to detail and commitment to delivering a product that we and MLCH can be proud of. The two biggest things we look for when doing business with anyone are: 1. Great people - From the moment we talked with Fred and Brian about the project we knew that the top of the company had great people. We hoped that this funneled down throughout their team. This turned out to be a bright spot; every person at MLH we dealt with was kind, courteous, knowledgeable, and spoke up when they had ideas to make things better. A special highlight to two team members - Oscar and Miguel; two of the best people I've seen on a job site. 2. How do they react when faced with problems - For anyone who thinks problems will not arise on every project is setting themselves up for a rough ride. Issues come up all the time, but the mark of a great team is in how they deal with them. Do they place blame and hide from it or do they take ownership regardless if it was their fault or not and fix the situation? MLCH was a 10/10 here; any issues on our project were communicated to us and dealt with promptly. We couldn't be happier with our home, and we can’t say thanks enough for MLH for helping us achieve our dream home! If you’re thinking about building a home or doing a large renovation, you’d be doing yourself a disservice by not looking at MLCH.

We had a great experience with the entire Maple Leaf team building our duplex in Hintonburg!! They are committed to providing a top notch product and they take great pride in all their projects! They work collaboratively with the home owner at all stages, from early conceptual meetings, through the approval process and the implementation to the final home. This is our second project with Maple Leaf and we were impressed with the progress Brian and Fred have achieved with their company. For example they have brought on board Jason (project manager) who takes the lead on the actual construction of your house from digging the hole to hanging the last light fixture. Fred helps you navigate the financial aspects which makes it a lot easier to keep all the numbers in order. They hire the best trades; from foundation guys, framers, plumbers, electricians, painters, etc.. who each treated us like real people and were always happy to listen to our needs and would provide very valuable advice when on-the-fly adjustments were needed. Maple Leaf also has a fantastic in house team that truly customized our house and helped realize our vision down to the smallest details. We have just finished the design phase of our custom home project and have been extremely happy with the level of service so far provided.
