Nestor Matthews founded Matthews Studio in January 1995. He and his team focus exclusively on the design of interior residential spaces. Nestor did a great job for us. Our Dark 1980's kitchen is now completely transformed in to an open bright more functional room. Nestor's design was innovative and really maximized our space. He was attentive to our family style, needs and budget and now we have a kitchen and laundry room that we really love!

I have known Nestor for a long time and finally had the chance to hire him as my architect over 2017-2018. He's that rare professional who brings not only a disciplined and smooth connection through his office and staff, but makes you feel like you're the only client in the world. His sense of contemporary style is completely in sync with what I like, and he continually brought forward ideas and options that I hadn't thought of. He was available for questions at any time, including a standing offer to review communications/bills from our contractors. I would re-hire him in a heartbeat.

Mathews studio has my highest possible recommendation particularly when it comes to listening and executing a clients vision and all with extreme attention to detail. We are fortunate enough to live in a beautiful 1920s San Francisco high-rise building. Unfortunately during the 1970s, the one and only remodel to the kitchen area included dropping the formerly high ceilings to barely 7 feet, installing gigantic can lights, and extending this drop ceiling into our entry removing original molding in the process. Mathews studio effectively restored our unit to its former glory and beyond. Bravo Nestor and Janie!

Matthews Studio has helped with several design projects around our home and working with Nestor has been an absolute pleasure. When looking at a room or a space, he has an uncanny ability to find the right floor plan or piece of furniture or color to make everything work. He is professional and very responsive. His first project for us was a small guest bedroom, as well as the completion of an only partially furnished family room. For the guestroom he chose a beautiful monochromatic color scheme with varied textures. Both rooms included some custom made pieces, as well as several beautiful pieces - some found at the Design Center in SF and others at more inexpensive local sources. The result in both rooms is refined, but relaxed. Another project was the construction phase of a 2nd floor study that we wanted to turn into a more open and interesting studio. Because the project was small we took on the role of general contractor, but Nestor was the architect/consultant on all matters. And he kept us from making expensive mistakes. He followed through with the design of simple, elegant cabinetry and a floor plan that included an oversized worktable on wheels that completely met our needs. Most recently, both Nestor and Tiziana redesigned our master bedroom, taking it into the 21st century with a more pared down, serene and truly beautiful design. Nestor has a keen eye for scale, for mixing traditional with contemporary and for making a room comfortable and livable, as well as beautiful.

We have worked with Nestor for over 15 years, initially on a living room and kitchen makeover, then on a complete home remodel, and more recently on updates of our home's decor and furnishings. At all times, Nestor brings a disciplined approach to learning first, all about the client's lifestyle, color and style preferences. Then, he works up ideas that fit those parameters rather than simply impose his own taste on the project. He brings a complete set of skills, using both his architect's eye for space and his interior decorator's knowledge of furnishings, fabrics, and treatments. At times he has designed and fabricated custom items where no such product can be found; at other times, he recommended cost-conscious catalog purchases. It's a pleasure to work with someone who possesses the depth of knowledge, patience and taste that Nestor does. We have recommended him very highly to friends and other prospective clients who have all had positive experiences with him and his team.

I have known Nestor Matthews for the past ten years. He is really quite amazing. We did 2 rooms and some color work with him about 5 years ago and were beyond impressed with the creativity he brought to the project; he also selected some furniture pieces that we would have never glanced at but ended up really being the greatest part of our room. For the past two months Nestor is managing a complete remodel we are doing to our home in San Francisco. His expertise with architecture and design has been invaluable. His attention to detail beyond impressive. With two young children, a whole house job could put me over the edge but with Nestor and his team at Matthews Studio on my team, I have felt relaxed and in good hands. Nestor has a clean and sophisticated style which is quite complimentary to our active, young family lifestyle. I simple can't wait for our project to get finished.
