***Could not recommend more highly - extremely talented designers, joyful to work with, will go above and beyond to delight you and make your home uniquely you.*** We hired Mark and Mikal while living in Chicago and renovating a newly purchased home in Omaha. My wife had just found out she was pregnant, so we had a tight timeline—8–9 months to complete the house before the baby arrived. We needed help not only with design but with hands-on project management, especially since we weren’t local. From our first Zoom call, it was clear that Mark and Mikal were different. They didn’t just ask about our style—they asked about our story. Their backgrounds in publishing and academia give them a unique, thoughtful approach to design, and it shows. After speaking with previous clients and a trusted builder who had worked with them, we knew we were in excellent hands. They jumped in immediately, catching issues we’d missed: irregular lighting layouts, nonsensical cabinetry plans, even asbestos tiles (which they successfully had the builder remediate at no cost to us). They worked directly with subcontractors and vendors, advocating for us every step of the way. Design-wise, they brought our vision to life—without ever repeating a formula. Our home feels uniquely us. They were respectful of our budget and lifestyle, sourcing everything from 1stDibs to Etsy to Wayfair. We requested washable rugs and durable, kid- and dog-friendly furniture, and they delivered stylish solutions without compromise. When a one-of-a-kind chandelier went missing during construction, they found a glassblower in Hungary who recreated the vintage shades. They have an impressive global network of artisans, yet they’re equally savvy at finding local, affordable pieces. They also helped us navigate our differences in taste as a couple, helping us find common ground we both loved. When they suggested a monumental tree trunk installation or a pink acrylic frame around an antique map, we didn’t fully understand—but we trusted them. And every time, it worked. Mark and Mikal are not only talented designers—they’re exceptional communicators, problem-solvers, and collaborators. They became friends through the process and even built rapport with our subcontractors, making sure our home got the care and attention it deserved. We’ve recommended them to several friends already, both in Nebraska and out of state. Their design speaks for itself, but it’s the personal experience that truly sets them apart. We can’t imagine working with anyone else.

Our collaboration with Maison MxM was a brilliant success.
