Our family of four could not be more excited about the recent renovation projects Susannah and her amazing team lead in our northside Chicago home. Our challenge was three-fold: - Update our primary bathroom to maximize the footprint and bring in more natural light (gut renovation) - Bring unity to our kitchen and sitting room to more seamlessly match our moodier formal living space, including powder bathroom update and new entryway tile - Make use of the fourth wall in our kitchen/sitting room to optimize space for utility. To note, this section of the house had long been not-so-lovingly referred to by the family as our "dead space." Along the journey, we were struck by the attention to detail , willingness to push our boundaries to invite us to consider alternatives we never could have imagined and overall investment in us to ensure we were happy and excited every step of the way. Although the SHS was team was working remotely from Salt Lake City, we never felt a bump in their process. Susannah's innate sense of aesthetic and style was well-balanced with our tastes and it was a joy to make decisions with her that both tested our limits and completely suited the space - from patterned wallpaper and rich paint colors to embellished textures and stylish furnishings. She and her team subcontracted with an incredible contractor here in Chicago, and their partnership felt seamless. This included custom millwork that featured in both the primary bathroom renovation and the "dead wall" space, now very much alive and happily functioning. We are thrilled with the totality of the renovations, having achieved all of our goals. It's difficult to pick which part of the renovation is our favorite. Each day, we get to enjoy the light, airy, contemporary vibe in our new primary bathroom. I imagine what may lie beyond these windows could be a breezy beach in the British Virgin Islands instead of a bustling Chicago neighborhood. But then also, I'm able to sit at the new custom built-in which replaced the dead wall (like it should have been here ALL along!) and work in an atmosphere that is comfortable and chic. Our new shelves above the built-in feature a rotating collection of family photos, special art, books, greenery and kids' artwork. The flexibility of this space invites seasonal updates that we can enjoy with each changing season. We love to look over and see the kids doing homework, building legos or working on crafts in the very same space. The powder bathroom updates bring a vintage feel that ties beautifully with our formal living room while simplifying the layout and creating more space. The ground floor is now very much in sync. As a final note, we also appreciated the delicate touches Susannah provided along the way, such as vendor recommendations, furnishing ideas or websites to find unique works of art. Thank you to SHS for making our home an even happier one!

I cannot say enough good things about the entire SHS team.Both the deign and quality exceeded our expectations. We did an entire first floor renovation of our 1920’s home, kitchen, den, living room, bathroom ,master bedroom.They were organized, detail oriented ,worked with us on our budget. Susannah is a master talent. She knows your style even when you don’t quite know it yet yourself. She is cutting edge yet timeless. She’s edgy yet classic. Every one of her spaces is supremely serene because of the balance she finds in colors, textures and shapes. She has designed both business and residential spaces for me and everyday (even 4 years later), I love them more.

Working with SHS was revelatory. It opened our eyes to the potential of our home. Sitting with the team to infuse our personal touch with the vision that SHS inspired made us truly feel part of the process. The final result was as rewarding as the process of discovery. Install day was like ten Christmas mornings! I catch myself moving from room to room taking visual snapshots of my home. It’s not only aesthetically pleasing, but a sanctuary that inspires peace and calm.

Susannah and her team were simply amazing to work with. From what started out as a somewhat extensive remodel and then turned into a to the studs redo, Susannah was more than up to the task of a full 9000+ sq/ft house redesign, including completely furnishing the house inside and out, choosing and coordinating a record setting number of paint colors and so much more. Susannah’s vision and clarity of choices, coupled with the team’s expertise in managing the various trades plus the ordering and installation of furnishings made my dream for my house a perfect reality.
