Things that went well on our bathroom remodel:
-Karin was great to work with. She talked to us about what we wanted (particular finishes, our budget and what options were easiest to clean!), helped us select products that would meet those needs, and was helpful with my follow up concerns and questions along the way. She was very professional and responsive when I expressed frustrations as well.
-I tend to want to analyze and compare all my options before making decisions, so hiring someone who could narrow it down for me made that a much easier (and quicker) selection process.
-The finished project turned out very nice. The cabinet they installed to be my linen closet works great for what I wanted. The finishes we selected on everything look great. The Onyx shower surround is so much nicer than the one we had, and seems to be much easier to clean. The light fixture is pretty. The new vent fan works much better than the old one. I love the shape of the new sink and of the built in shower nook to hold the shampoo and stuff! The look of the built in medicine cabinet is just what we asked for (though I overlooked the fact that it was plastic in the original description and was not as excited about that when it arrived, but it met the criteria I gave her in selecting the item so had I noticed it, I may have decided to go for it anyway based on that).
-The installers all arrived within the times they gave us each morning, so that was helpful.
Things that could have gone better:
-The project was delayed from our original start date and we were not notified of that until I called on a Friday to find out what time they would be here Monday. Karin said she didn't do the scheduling and didn't know I hadn't been informed, so somewhere there is a misstep in the communication process.
-The way things were scheduled, it could not have been done in 4 days. The demo day took a couple hours and then they left and nothing more was done that day. There were several days that I thought they had plenty of time to have done more work, but they were gone earlier than expected.
-My original chosen tile was backordered from the manufacturer and we didn't find that out until they were supposed to be installing it. (Though Karin helped us find a replacement option that was in stock so we didn't have to wait another month for the original tile to arrive).
-First the wrong shower door arrived at their shop and they had to wait for the correct one to arrive. Then the installers broke the shower glass when installing it, so that got delayed a week as well. While the shower installation was delayed, Karin offered to bring us out a curtain and rod to use so we could use the shower in the meantime, which while it was another frustrating delay, I appreciated that they tried to minimize our inconvenience.
-I had some concerns about the details of the installers work (missed section of grout and then new application didn't match color exactly, upside down light fixture, some messiness on the grout application, etc...I'm a perfectionist). However, when I brought it to Karin's attention, she made sure it was corrected for us.
-I also had her follow up on a number of issues that weren't clear to me (when things were happening, whether things had been forgotten or just not done yet, etc). Things seemed to be left at the shop a lot instead of them arriving with everything they needed: shelves for the cabinet, our toilet paper holder, the correct shower head, etc. It seems they could be more organized as far as that went. But everything on my list was handled by the end.
-So a project we expected to take 4 days, started 2 weeks later than anticipated and took around 3 weeks to complete. Our bathroom was at least partially functional the whole time, but it was still frustrating when we needed to use it.
Overall, considering the horror stories I've heard about remodeling projects with constant delays, messes left behind, damage, etc. Everyone was pleasant to work with, we had no issues with any of the workers. I think our few issues with communication and delays were not too bad, though of course I would rather it have been completed more quickly. I'm happy with the results though. My bathroom looks and feels much bigger, cleaner, more usuable and vastly updated from what we had when we moved in.
