About Us

Joe Currie, of Capitol Design, is an award-winning kitchen and bath designer based in Austin, Texas. Designing kitchens and baths since 1981, his projects have been featured in local and national magazines, well known buildings such as the Watergate in Washington, DC and the Harbor Terrace in Baltimore, Maryland. Along with luxury kitchens and baths, he has been building a broad design repertoire by designing furniture, home additions, restaurants and bars, and even a media room resembling an 11th century castle for a client in Ludlow, Massachusetts. He has worked on both coasts, and designed homes from New England to sunny Florida. Joe has designed projects for media celebrities, Fortune 500 CEOs, a well known St. Louis chef and many busy families. His projects can be found in historical neighborhoods such as Compton Heights in St. Louis, Missouri, Georgetown in Washington DC, and Castle Hill in downtown Austin, Texas and gated, exclusive neighborhoods Westlake, Barton Springs and Lakeway in the Austin, Texas area. New construction projects include Cimarron Hills in Austin, Castlebridge in Ellicott City, Maryland and Valderrama in Gainesville, Virginia. Most recently, his designs have won 1st and 2nd place in the Washington, DC Metro NARI (National Association of the Remodeling Industry) 2010 CoTY awards. The 1st place home was located in Darnestown, MD and the 2nd place home was located in Baltimore, MD. He also won the Washington, DC based, Home and Design magazine's "Kitchen of Distinction" for the second straight year. Joe resides in Austin, Texas, where he designs stunning, functional, kitchens; fabulous baths; and comfortable, beautiful spaces for clients in Austin, Texas southern Maryland, northern Virginia and Washington, DC. Capitol Design, Joe Currie, worked with my husband and I for much of 2019 on the renovation design for the 80's Texas Hill Country home we bought. The house was solid, VERY dated, and needed a bit more square footage to accommodate our family's needs. Joe helped us update the style and use of the existing space; his experience with living spaces across the country was so valuable to us. He also helped us add square footage in a second floor. He managed the engineer's visits, of which there were several. I would call Joe again in the future with design needs. We are currently waiting on permits, and hope to have the project completed in early fall 2020.

Working with Joe was a pleasure. He spent a lot of time reviewing our needs and our goals while providing suggestions and guidance on our choices and design for our kitchen. He was patient and accommodated our change requests and provided detailed 3d renders and drawings prior to any construction beginning. He was very helping in making suggestions to maximize our value for dollar spent. We gutted our kitchen to the walls and replaced everything including all cabinets, appliances, countertops, and expanded the entire kitchen island. We installed a new range and hood and enlarged the existing vent. Joe did an excellent job managing the various vendors and contractors and guided us through the entire experience of selecting our materials and appliances. I would highly recommend Joe to anyone looking to do a complete kitchen remodel. Joe was also extremely helpful in taking care of issues (which are guaranteed to come up in any major remodel) including taking care of damage caused by contractors and making sure were satisfied with the fit and finish of the kitchen even months after the job was completed and we found small issues. Although his services weren't cheap, I strongly believe you get what you pay for and I plan on using Joe for future projects. I don't believe our kitchen would have turned out as wonderfully as it did if we had tried to do this without Joe.

When I started my kitchen remodel, only knew that I wanted new cabinets and something super durable and easy maintenance but not boring. Joe guided me to a kitchen that in addition had a much more open feel, better traffic flow, and more storage space. The 3D renderings were crucial for showing me possibilities. Joe's crews were friendly and helpful and made sure all the details were right. I now have a happy space with a little pizazz and I can't think of a thing I would change.

We hired Joe to do a kitchen remodel for us and are extremely pleased with the results. Joe is knowledgeable, professional, and detail-oriented. He gave us useful design suggestions based on his expertise. Joe was easily reachable by phone/text, and he returned messages promptly. The rest of his team was excellent in customer service as well. Start to finish, the work itself took only a few weeks, which helped to minimize the disruption to our schedule/life. We would highly recommend Joe and his team.

We are so happy with our new kitchen, designed by Joe and constructed by his crew. In addition to the kitchen, they also painted much of our downstairs and replaced our flooring, and everything turned out beautifully. Joe and his crew are highly professional and responsible, and the costs were explained in advance. I highly recommend Capitol Design!

It was a great experience working with Joe. Our project was to merge our dining area to the kitchen. He was easy to work with, listened to our needs/desires and cooperatively produced a unique and on target design. He managed the construction phase and all of his subs (with one exception) were equally responsive to our needs and produced excellent results. We plan to use Joe again for future work.

Joe did a great job on helping us design our new kitchen and implementing those changes. It was a big job. We knocked down walls and moved appliances. He had lots of ideas and was not pushy at all. The video rendering were super helpful because I could get an idea of what it would really look like. I would for sure hire him again.
