Kerr Design Build

We had a truly nightmarish situation with the City of Vancouver. We requested an AIRBNB compliance inspection for our basement suite in our modest and old single family home (original house dates back to 1911). The City had other motives. When they sent in their property use inspector, he went on a witch hunt and stung us with City orders for old historical work (long before we bought our place) which had not been permitted. Truly terrible situation. Our AIRBNB business was wiped out and now we were fighting to keep our house intact without having to tear part of it down or do costly upgrades. And for what? The work had been done between 40 and 50 years ago by our estimation. Felt like we were caught in a Franz Kafka novel in dealing with the awful, dysfunctional bureaucracy that is the City of Vancouver . Found Kerr online and asked them to have a look into our predicament. They sent in Elton Donald and Alex Baro to meet with us. Very kind, professional and knowledgeable. Helped put us at ease from the outset. They followed up with a proposal which we accepted and then we started working with Steven Butler. Steven demonstrated that he can work with the City, as difficult and frustrating as it is, and come out very successful. Steven is a delight to work with. He's fast, practical, non confrontational and gets results. The City staff know and trust him. And I would say all of Kerr Design Build for that matter. Steven negotiated with various departments and allowed us to save virtually all of what we had in the house. No significant alterations. It is a credit to his skills and demeanor that we came out ok. For a situation like ours, we would highly recommend Kerr Design Build. Class act all the way. Don't try to deal with the City of Vancouver (or any other municipality for that matter). It will be a horror show far beyond your worst fears. Trust the professionals. Kerr.

Had another amazing project completed by Kerr Design Build-my back deck and stairs. Met with the project consultant Nisha, who set my ideas into motion and Mark , the project manager. Mark 's expert knowledge of construction , materials, and scheduling along with weekly email updates was much appreciated. Once cost and scheduling was established , the project began with a hardworking team of carpenters. From the outset, my project presented an unexpected problem- moisture damage,The carpenters, Eric and Dominic and a young helper Braedon, handled all surprises with calm acceptance of the unexpected. Eric , the site supervisor, visited frequently providing suggestions and fixes if required. His ability to stay on top of setbacks and to juggle scheduling of trades as needed is a reflection of a very organized capable individual. Communication was never an issue -questions answered promptly. The primary carpenter, Eric , always enthusiastically shared his progress and answered my concerns. The framing in my carport, the construction of the steps and the placement of Trex on my deck shares Eric's skilled craftsmanship and pride in a job well done.

We had an unusual project: because of landscaping changes by the previous owners of our heritage house, we needed to add about 18 inches to the foundation under a portion of the wall under our front porch. Kerr came by a few days after our request for a quote, quoted accurately, and started work within 10 days of us signing the straightforward contract. The work was done within three weeks of the start. We also added some extra work which was handled as a change request. 1) The work started remarkably soon after signing the contract. 2) The work was completed on budget. 3) The work completed on schedule. 4) We were able to openly discuss how to deal with some more difficult work and come to reasonable agreement on how to proceed. 5) The quality was OK, but note that we are quite fussy. We felt we had to stay on top of things to make sure things were done to our satisfaction. Net net: Without question, we would use them again and can strongly recommend them.

We were very happy with our project with Kerr. It was a major project and it went seamlessly. The integrated aspect of Kerr's operation is a major bonus, in my opinion - the designer communicated continuously with our on site team, and in the end we got exactly what we wanted. I was particularly happy with how our on-site team, Evan and Spencer managed the construction. It felt like it was always moving forward and that our project was a priority for the company. Issues that did crop up, as is inevitable, were dealt with very effectively and the finished product was excellent. Would absolutely recommend.

We recently had a kitchen renovation done by Kerr Design Build and we are absolutely thrilled with the results! The designer , NISHA, was fantastic throughout the process and offered excellent suggestions that really elevated the space. The work crews were incredibly talented, and their attention to detail was evident in every aspect of the project. A special shout-out to the site manager, MAX , who was absolutely terrific throughout the entire process , ensuring the work done was exceptional and completed on time and to MARK, the project manager, who was very responsive and easy to deal with. Highly recommend this company for anyone looking to renovate their space!

We recently hired Kerr Construction to renovate the kitchen in our townhome. We couldn’t be happier with our choice, and the outcome of the renovation. From the first meeting with John, the Project Consultant, we knew we were in good hands with Kerr. The steps in their process from start to finish were very clear and transparent. Senior Designer, Zaineb, was amazing to work with. She quickly understood our vision, and the functionality we needed. Zaineb came up with an amazing design and layout for our small space, vastly improving the flow and function. Including tripling (or more) the storage space. The 3-D rendering was very helpful in allowing us to see what the finalized project would look like. We could never have envisioned the plan Zaineb created for us. She thoughtfully guided us along the way, providing options and suggestions for all the finishes that would bring it to life. The construction phase was equally as professional. From the project Manager, Mark, who stayed on top of the project, to all the subcontractors on site. But specifically, thanks to the site manager, Nelson. Nelson kept everything on track and informed us at each step where we were in the process, and what would be happening on site every day. Any issues that came up, Nelson dealt with them immediately and came up with solutions. When we added some additional work during the project, he made sure the changes were submitted and implemented as approved. Overall, we were very impressed with Nelson’s communication, commitment to our project, and attention to detail. Our custom-built kitchen island, drawers and cabinets came out beautifully, thanks to Wes and the team at Urban Vista Cabinets. They went above and beyond to make sure we were 100% satisfied with the result and came back to make minor adjustments as needed. It’s a true pleasure to use our new extremely functional and beautiful kitchen. We thank the entire Kerr team for their hard work and high standards. We would absolutely hire Kerr for future projects.

Kerr Design Build did a great job helping us with our basement reno! The design/planning process was efficient and they knew exactly what was required to successfully obtain the required permit. The construction team was great to work with and addressed any of our questions/concerns very quickly. Even their subcontractors, especially the plumber and electrician they used, were very professional and valued the quality of their work!

Their slogan talks about trust, and that was just what we needed to hear. We looked for a company to do a renovation after failing to come to terms with another group. From the first meeting, we felt like the people at Kerr were very attentive to customer service. They listened and really cared about us and the project. Every time during the renovation process, they answered questions and ensured we were happy. We had started the design process with the other company, but the designers at Kerr went over our decisions and helped us make changes where the ideas didn’t match our vision. The project manager was very knowledgeable and could be relied upon to make sure that the work was done to their exacting standards. The warranty is better than anything we’ve seen. We are extremely pleased with the finished product, and we highly recommend Kerr.

We have worked with the Kerr Design team and head designer, Nisha MacNeil for over a year. The Kerr Design team helped us pick furniture and accessories for our 3,300 square foot home. Kerr took into account our tastes and our traditional home and helped us make the right choices and avoid costly mistakes. We also wanted to build a bench seat in our kitchen. We could not find anyone who wanted to do such a small job and were fortunate that Kerr was also able to provide us with the trades to do the job. Our collaboration with the Kerr Design team has resulted in a beautiful home that we enjoy with family and friends.

2022 I approached Elton Donald, of Kerr Construction, with a design for an update to my kitchen & living area. He introduced me to Nisha MacNeil, of Kerr Design, who graciously took on the project. Nisha guided me through the next few months of ideas, numerous choices, and decision making, with efficiency & thoughtfulness. Nisha was very conscious of my vision of the project, & kept me well informed, as well as ensuring we were meeting deadlines. Thank you Nisha for encouraging me to take the plunge & add some “jewelry” (Nisha’s term), to my power room with wallpaper & fancy gold faucet, & “wow” light fixtures!

We recently hired Kerr Construction to renovate our kitchen, master ensuite and reading room, and we are very happy with the final result. The project took about 9 weeks from tear out to completion, a very manageable timeline. Kerr had a good selection of suppliers and subcontractors that helped everything go smoothly. Communication was always prompt and efficient. Our project manager, Eric, kept on top of everything and was always available with great input. He dealt immediately with any issues that came up and was always able to find the right solution. Nisha and the design team offered good décor/design options and choices from various vendors which really helped in the selection process. The quality of the craftsmanship was excellent. Our kitchen cabinets, bookcase and ensuite vanity were custom made and turned out beautifully. All of the workers/tradespeople were very respectful of our home. At the end of every working day, the house was swept and tools were put away. We are really enjoying our renovated spaces and have Kerr to thank for making it happen. We have had many compliments on the changes to our home. We would recommend them for future work.

The team at Kerr was amazing. They helped us design and build an amazing apartment. We felt supported all the way through the project.
