I've worked with Mike Land and the J&M team for the past two years, completing two whole-home renovations in West Hamilton in that time. Mike has been an exceptional contractor to work with, from early scoping to final handshake. Both homes were purchased by my parents and after decades of ownership, it was time to find new owners for them. At the outset of each project, Mike walked through the home and offered thoughtful options on how to proceed with the renovations, being mindful of our budget and the overall look we were trying to achieve. During the quoting process, all documents were created and sent electronically, so we could rapidly iterate on the proposal, until we were satisfied with the final quote and resulting budget. The electronic tools were especially important for me as I live out of town and had to manage both projects remotely. Once our scope and budget were set, Mike pulled together a selection list of fixtures and finishes that we needed to select, in order of need on the job site, so that we could shop those items ahead of project kickoff. We worked with us to arrange pickup of smaller items or oversee delivery of larger elements, to ensure no time was lost on the job site. It's during the actual renovations that Mike and his team really shine. Surprises are bound to occur when you are taking down walls or redoing electrical in homes that are decades old. Mike excelled at probing for those risky elements at the outset of the project and walking us through options once the other shoe dropped. He and his team provided text updates should there be an immediate issue requiring our input, as well as weekly report emails with plenty of photos and details that let us know how we're tracking on the project. These communications ensured that we always knew how things were progressing and allowed us to sleep well at night. The final walkthrough on both homes was a source of real happiness, pride and delight for us and Mike. He transformed the homes owned by my parents into treasures for the next family to enjoy. We made a renovation and converted our Garage into a home office. J&M construction team did a great job in terms of both quality and the timeline, even though it was a supply chain issue during that time. The team cleaned the space every evening, which was a nice bonus considering that we all stayed at home. You could hardly notice that it was a renovation as everything was very clean. Michael Land and his construction team at J & M Construction Services completed the renovation of our basement and the main floor office over the second half of the Covid-19 pandemic. We don’t even know where to begin with how amazing we found this team to work with! Despite our family being home for most of the construction due to remote working conditions, and despite all of the safety precautions in place, Mike and his team were reliable, professional, friendly, clean and organized, considerate of the fact that we were often all home, and very responsible in terms of keeping our family and themselves safe and healthy. Beyond this, the work done by this crew was fantastic and top-notch quality! Mike had wonderful suggestions based on his experience. He and the project manager for our build, Lorne, were amazing at problem-solving and making sure everything was done excellently, beautifully, on time and on budget. Lorne was on-site daily and was super communicative and a real pleasure to work with. We felt very confident with him leading the crew. Mike was on site often, was super communicative, and responsive to any questions or issues that came up. We are simply thrilled with the work they did for us, would hire this construction company again and recommend them highly!

We had a specific budget and some requirements for our kitchen renovation project and struggled to find a company who could meet these until finding J & M Construction. In order to keep the project within budget, we had decided to keep the renovation within the same space, and chose not to go the route of a full scale main floor renovation that included knocking out walls and reconfiguring the entire layout of the main floor. We met with J & M and reviewed the project requirements and even added a few additional projects (main floor powder room, hall painting and hall closet). We received detailed colour plans which even included some design items that we had not expected but loved! Although we did have to compromise with some 'wish list items' due to space restrictions, we were more than happy with the overall plans and cost. The additional project items did add to our initial budget but it only made sense to have those items completed at the same time, so we were quite fine with that. We had an opportunity to meet with the cabinet maker, look at cabinet designs and colours before finalizing everything. Timelines were provided with regards to payments, project start and approximate completion. Of course, there are always some surprizes in a project of this magnitude and these were well explained as they occurred and solutions/options and costs provided. The workmanship and professionalism throughout the entire renovation was exception, as was regular daily communication on progress and next steps. All staff were professional, polite and friendly. We would strongly recommend J & M Construction Services for any project!
