I also had similar issues - DO NOT HIRE.
UPDATE 2/2016: I am now pursuing LEGAL ACTION against Dave and Stone Science for the shoddy workmanship on my deck tiling. Dave installed improper materials for the deck. The travertine tile materials he selected were completely wrong and cracked completely through in under 60 days. Additionally, he and his work crew left materials on my building roof that damaged it.
Finally, Dave's shoddy installation created a leak into my unit; I am now dealing with ongoing leaking and internal damage.
To make this all even more grand, Dave indicated he would fix the issues he caused. However, when the time came to schedule it, Dave would not return calls or emails. We are also filing complaints with state licensing board as well as a law suit.
SUMMARY: Dave was a nightmare to deal with regarding payments AND the travertine tiles he installed in my roof deck are cracking after only 3 months. Additionally, he and his team left heavy tiles scattered on my building roof, perforating it.
Fuller story:
I hired Dave and team from Stone Science in October 2015 to install travertine tiling on my upper roof deck and lower living room deck. The issues were apparent from the beginning:
~ Dave pressured me to schedule the job as soon as possible and assured me he and his team could do a "rush job" before I headed out on a 2-week trip. (Not that I requested it. It turned out that he wanted to collect his payment as quickly as possible; more on that below).
~ After installing the tiling on the upper deck, I noticed that Dave had left off any trim, so there were ugly gaps between the stucco wall around the deck and the tiling. He then told me it would cost me another $900 to create the trim. I had no choice but to pay up or have a severely ugly deck.
~ Dave insisted on receiving payments from me for every day of work he and his team did. After giving him a check for the first day's work, I got a text from him at 7 pm demanding to know why HIS bank wasn't giving him immediate access to the funds after he'd deposited my check. I told him it sounded like his bank's issue; it certainly wasn't mine.
~ The next morning, I was still hearing from Dave about how he needed access to his funds and that his bank wasn't releasing them. I agreed to do an e-payment for the 2nd payment that was due (since the 1st was already in the system).
~ The payment issues continued for weeks; Dave's issues with his bank suddenly ended up in my email, voicemail, and text inboxes, even while I was on vacation.
~ I finally fired Dave (before he could finish the lower deck).
~ We recently discovered that Dave and his team negligently left multiple heavy tiles on our building roof during their installation. These tiles have perforated the outer roof and may have caused additional damage.
~ The tiling installed on my upper deck is showing serious signs of cracking due to improper installation.

I hired Stone Science to replace a cracked fiberglass shower pan with a tiled shower pan. It's a family business. Dave does the estimates and Drew does the work. At the beginning, Dave was very responsive to my calls and emails. After the work was completed and the tile/grout had more than enough time to set, I used the shower one time and noticed that the grout between the tiles of the shower floor cracked. I tried to get Dave or Drew back to my home to inspect their work and fix the problem but they would not return. I made the mistake of paying them in full. After hiring another contractor to fix their work, I discovered a large hole in the subfloor around the shower drain.
