This jewel bar is tacked into an alcove with very little space. Wood ceiling details play on the drywall soffit layouts and make the bar look like it simply belongs there. Various design decisions were made in order to make this little bar feel larger and allow to maximize storage. For example, there is no hanging pendants over the illuminated onyx front and the front of the bar was designed with horizontal slats and uplifting illuminated onyx slabs to keep the area open and airy. Storage is completely maximized in this little space and includes full height refrigerated wine storage with more wine storage directly above inside the cabinet. The mirrored backsplash and upper cabinets are tacked away and provide additional liquor storage beyond, but also reflect the are directly in front to offer illusion of more space. As you turn around the corner, there is a cabinet with a linear sink against the wall which not only has an obvious function, but was selected to double as a built in ice through for cooling your favorite drinks. And of course, you must have drawer storage at your bar for napkins, bar tool set, and other bar essentials. These drawers are cleverly incorporated into the design of the illuminated onyx cube on the right side of the bar without affecting the look of the illuminated part. Considering the footprint of about 55 SF, this is the best use of space incorporating everything you would possibly need in a bar… and it looks incredible! Photography: Craig Denis

Open-plan kitchen and dining of a new construction single-level home in Orinda, CA, designed by CB Architecture + Design and featured in Dwell Magazine. Flat-front slate blue upper cabinets run the full length of the kitchen wall, framed by warm walnut lower cabinets and a matching full-height walnut appliance tower housing integrated stainless steel refrigerator, double oven, and open shelving; a mid-century inspired material palette executed with contemporary precision. White quartz countertops and a simple white tile backsplash keep the composition clean between the two dominant materials. Blue kitchen island with white quartz countertop features an integrated sink with a professional-grade pull-down faucet, extending into a cantilevered butcher block dining table with slatted walnut base detail, seamlessly connecting kitchen and dining in a single furniture-like piece. Four black molded shell dining chairs with oak legs surround the dining extension. Two oversized white globe pendant lights drop from the double-height white ceiling above. Charcoal polished concrete radiant slab floors extend throughout the open plan. Black-framed sliding glass doors to the left open to the outdoor courtyard. Clerestory black-framed windows admit natural light at the upper wall level to the right.

This remodel of a mid century gem is located in the town of Lincoln, MA a hot bed of modernist homes inspired by Gropius’ own house built nearby in the 1940’s. By the time the house was built, modernism had evolved from the Gropius era, to incorporate the rural vibe of Lincoln with spectacular exposed wooden beams and deep overhangs. The design rejects the traditional New England house with its enclosing wall and inward posture. Whimsical floral pattern tile backsplash pulls together the two-toned gray and white cabinetry. The gold faucet dresses up the white apron front sink and compliments the gold hardware on the cabinets. A handy outlet on the end of the peninsula is helpful for plugging in kitchen gadgets and equipment.

This customer combined Frosty White painted uppers with Saddle-stained Hickory base cabinets for a warm and timeless dream space. The standard birch interiors on the glass door cabinet tie the warm wood floors and base cabinets into the upper section and bring everything together. Drawer cabinets abound for convenient storage, and the appliance cabinets are custom-sized to carry the inset design throughout.

This kitchen is home to two taller individuals who both use the space equally and requested a taller workspace to comfortably accommodate their needs. The island cabinets are standard 34-1/2” tall but the Iceberg countertops were installed with a 3” build-up to add height to the island. Cabinets on the long wall were designed to break up the wall of white: buffet on the end with walnut-framed glass cabinets and seashell backsplash; double refrigerators in a painted, distressed mahogany finish were pulled forward to simulate texture and depth on the wall; wide pantry cabinets with roll-out drawers sitting on the countertops flank the refrigerators. On the opposite wall, a new window box at the kitchen sink was built to add more countertop behind the sink and to let in more light, adding dimension to the room. The cabinetry in the original existing kitchen was disjointed at the dining room entrance and made the room appear much smaller than it really was. To remedy this, the entry to the dining room from the kitchen was closed up and relocated around the corner from the foyer; 2 simple, stacked columns were built to highlight the new opening. These transitional style columns and wider room openings at the family room and dining room entrances provide an open layout suitable for large groups to mingle comfortably; family room cabinetry and dining room fireplace surround matches kitchen cabinets.

Updating a recently built town home in culver city for a wonderful family was a very enjoyable project for us. a classic shaker kitchen with double row of upper cabinets due to the extra high ceiling. butcher block island with a sink as a work area. The centerpiece of it all is the amazing handmade Moroccan zellige tiles that were used as the backsplash. going all the way to the ceiling around the window area and finished off in the corners with a black matt Schluter corner system.

Once an unused butler's pantry, this Ann Arbor kitchen remodel now offers added storage for important appliances and large items infrequently used. This hard working set of cabinetry does the work of a pantry without the doors, narrow storage and poor lighting of a traditional pantry. Complete with floor to ceiling natural cherry cabinets in the craftsman style, these cabinets add interest and function with stair-step depths and height. The Medallion cabinets are a natural cherry wood with a Sonoma door style, finished in a pecan burnished glaze. Sanctuary cabinet hardware from Top Knobs comes in a Tuscan Bronze finish. Bamboo floors compliment the warm cabinetry and will deepen to a honey blond over time. Stainless steel appliances help to add a touch of sophistication to the space. A contemporary white kitchen with white custom shaker style cabinets, white granite and custom lit light box upper cabinets. All put together with a pop of blue.

Two different accent tiles make a statement and add a pop of color against the large white wall tiles in the custom shower. Frameless glass creates a custom and modern feel to the space. This small powder bath lacked interest and was quite dark despite having a window. We added white horizontal tongue & groove on the lower portion of the room with a warm graphic wallpaper above. A custom white cabinet with a waterfall grey and white granite counter gave the vanity some personality. New crown molding, window casings, taller baseboards and white wood blinds made impact to the small room. We also installed a modern pendant light and a rustic oval mirror which adds character to the space. BEFORE Though this bathroom had a good layout, everything was just really outdated. We added tile from floor to ceiling for a spa like feel. We kept the color palette neutral and timeless. The dark cheery cabinet was elegantly finished with crystal knobs and a cararra marble countertop. AFTER AFTER BEFORE There was an underutilized corner between the vanity and the shower that was basically wasted space. To give the corner a purpose, we added a make-up vanity in white with a custom made stool. Oversized subway tiles were added to the shower, along with a rain shower head, for a clean and timeless look. We also added a new frosted glass door to the walk-in closet to let the light in. BEFORE These beautiful oval pivot mirrors are not only functional but also showcase the cararra marble on the wall. Unique glass pendants are a dramatic addition to the space as is the ikat wallpaper in the WC. To finish out the vanity space we added a shallow white upper cabinet for additional storage. BEFORE AFTER AFTER The best part of this remodel? Tearing out the awful, dated carpet! We chose porcelain tile with the look of hardwoods for a more functional and modern space. Inspiration for a timeless l-shaped kitchen pantry remodel in Baltimore with green cabinets, granite countertops and raised-panel cabinets

This kitchen received a major "face lift" by painting the existing dark cabinets this light gray and adding some new additions as well. The built in desk area became a beverage center with sub-zero refrigerator built in and glass upper cabinets added. The double ovens were replaced with a steam and convection oven and the slide in range and upper cabinets were replaced with a stainless hood and pull out bottom drawers. Pull out trash cabinet and pan cabinet were added as well as a custom built television frame to mount the tv above the refrigerator and also hide away items not used as often, Calcutta gold quartz replaced the old black granite and subway tile replaced the slate back splash. Glass pendants were added over the peninsula and the counter-top was all lowered to counter level. A new paneled curved bar back was added to the peninsula.
