I have worked with Jon and his team at Ecostruct twice--once for a renovation of a 2-bedroom apartment in South Brooklyn, and years later in a pinch to help me and my neighbors with some work between our apartments. It's hard to imagine a more responsive and talented contractor... Jon and his team produced exceptional work on-time, on-budget and with clear and consistent communication throughout.

My husband and I were apprehensive about taking on a large reno project after hearing a mix of stories about working with contractors, but we could not have been more pleasantly surprised and relieved with how smooth the process was with Jon. Jon worked with us to renovate an old brownstone in Brooklyn, inclusive of a gut renovation in the kitchen, a net new bathroom, laundry room and outdoor deck, design update to a second bathroom, and new flooring, plumbing, paint and fixture installation throughout. His clear communication, super detail-oriented style, around the clock availability, and trustworthy opinions made us feel at ease amidst one of life's most stressful projects. We trusted all of his subcontractors, who were respectful of our space and polite. We have continued to work with some of them even after the project was complete. While the project took a little longer than we had anticipated, this was mainly the result of delayed materials and permit approvals, and not the result of Jon or his subcontractors' availability (with the exception of the deck- don't start steel projects in August, people!!). The house looks and FEELS amazing and we are just so happy with how it all turned out. We couldn't recommend Jon & Ecostruct enough to anyone looking for a construction project big or small.

I am truly delighted to recommend Jon Ecklund and Ecostruct. I had the pleasure of working with him this summer on the renovations of 3 bathrooms in my Carroll Gardens townhouse. We had a fixed, accelerated timeframe for our work (we needed the bulk of the work done during the summer while we were away), and Jon was the consummate professional: rearranging his schedule to meet our timing needs, making recommendations for products that met our design specifications on the timeline we needed, and installing temporary fixes for the fixtures that weren’t available, so that we could have working bathrooms when we returned, even though it meant more work for his team once the permanent items were delivered. He’s meticulous, detail-focused and will go out of his way not just to make sure that the client’s needs are being met but that the work is being done to the highest standards. As you might guess, he’s also just a really nice guy and straightforward to work with. My standards are pretty exacting, and I couldn’t recommend him more highly.

We started our relationship with Ecostruct in September of last year with plans to begin a rather ambitious renovation and addition on our townhouse. Ecostruct's owner, Jonathan, estimated about 12 months to complete the work which was pushing our timeline a little but we figured it would be worth the wait. Following a couple of minor delays on our design (unrelated to Ecostruct), we finally got the ball rolling in November. When our project was shut down in March, we were devastated as it looked as though our timeline would be completely shot and we would need to extend our temporary living arrangements indefinitely. The very first phone call we received following the city's reopening in the early summer was from Jon who already had a plan in place to not only get back to work but to try and maintain our original timeline!! While the work took an additional month, both my husband and I are amazed and eternally grateful that the Ecostruct team was able to pull this off and get us into our new home before the holidays, especially considering a loss of nearly 5 months. The Ecostruct team worked efficiently and calmly to bring our goals to fruition. While Jon tends to be very "vocal" when it comes to design details, his hands on approach and inherent design knowledge, made working through any issues or questions relatively seamless. Jon helped us on our gut renovation in Tribeca. His work from start to finish in working with our architect and designer was excellent and within budget and the initial timeframe he gave us. He has a great attention to detail and was available whenever we needed him throughout the process from planning stages to completion. Jon and his team did a beautiful job updating my one bedroom condo -- new doors, windows, full bathroom reno, closets, baseboards, painting, lighting. We were introduced to Jon through friends who used him to renovate their apartment and couldn't be more thankful. We renovated our Gramercy kitchen, refinished our hardwood floors, all new paint, wallpaper, and updated our half bathroom. The process was so much easier than we would have ever expected. I hired Ecostruct to renovate my New York City studio apartment. The project included total reconstruction of kitchen & bath, installation of wood baseboard trim, and restoration/painting of walls and ceiling. Jon and his talented team did a great job under the difficult conditions of working in a small space in Manhattan. Not only was the final product exceptional, he was able to easily work with building staff and management . No small feat in the world of New York City residential building management. Jon is a creative craftsman who has a vision for every project, and delivers a final product above and beyond your expectations. Every project has small unforeseen problems. Jonathan Eklund and his team did an exceptional job installing a shower using our tile. Their attention to detail, the overall quality of the entire space and the level of craftsmanship that they bring to the table is second to none. I had the pleasure of working with Jon and his team for the recent renovation of our 3-bedroom condo in Park Slope. The entire process was not only painless, it was actually enjoyable. In addition to the vision we thought we had, Jon's creative suggestions helped guide us when we were no longer able to make decisions. He renovated all 3 bathrooms, including tracking down a specific wallpaper and special-order tile we asked for. We lightened our existing floor and were thrilled with the outcome - a relief knowing that it was a costly and large project, but we had confidence in the process as Jon made sure we saw 4 different test areas before we locked a color in. He was always reachable and we always felt like a priority, and he was incredibly upfront about timeline and cost - something I had never experienced with other contractors before (I did a full kitchen and bathroom reno with other, less-reputable contractors in my old condo). Not only were things done thoughtfully and thoroughly, his entire crew could not have been nicer or more respectful. We even scored brownie points with our new neighbors who commented on the demeanor of the workmen coming in & out of the building at all times. Renovating can be stressful and overwhelming but my partner and I felt like we were in very good hands working with Jon throughout the whole project. Highly, highly recommend.

Jon and the Ecostruct team are the best! I was lucky enough to be introduced to Jon Eklund following a really terrible situation with another contractor that almost made us cancel our plans to renovate. However from the start, we could see that working with Jon would be very different, because he was not only very knowledgeable, but honest and direct. Within a few weeks Jon completed his walk through, answered all of our questions, and wrote up a detailed proposal that fell within our budget. We were able to move quickly to get building approval and jump right into the work. During the renovation we had several surprises come up like moving pipes or fitting cabinets that were a bit off, however Jon and his team were amazing about it. They would explain the issue and immediately provide solutions on how to best resolve it. If something was done incorrectly or there was a miscommunication it was always handled in a fair and simple manner. Honestly, I felt like I was working with a friend who had my best interests in mind and was there to guide me as needed. In the end, we completed the work on time AND on budget! Jon and his team are really all fantastic people that bring experience, honesty and a good attitude to the table - overall an A+ experience!

My wife and I had the pleasure of working with John from Ecostruct on our apartment reconstruction. Our home had been heavily damaged from a burst pipe and we sought multiple contractor bids to put our home back together. It was almost a complete remodel. Ecostruct wasn't the cheapest quote but they were far from the highest. We hired John based on his professionalism, expertise and impeccable references. This wasn't an easy job and we were against a very tight deadline imposed on us by our need to make the spring home selling season without cutting any corners. We wanted a quality job done on time and without the stress typical of projects like this. John also worked with multiple insurance companies throughout the entire process on our behalf. This required live meetings, conference calls and additional paperwork. He not only did everything that was asked for but he continued to provide this work for us after the work was completed and paid for. He went well above and beyond the scope of work to help us. We absolutely made the right decision by going with Ecostruct. We would hire John again without question. Not only was the job done on time, the final cost came in below the original quote. He consulted with us the entire time and made the work as painless as possible for us. John lived up to every expectation that we had and then some. His crew arrived on time, were super nice and they cleaned up after themselves every evening. We received zero complaints from neighbors. We can't recommend John and Ecostruct more highly.

Ecostruct managed a very involved renovation of an historic single family home for us. The project encompassed a large demolition of an existing structure, re-engineering of old floor plans, and a renovation of ultra-modern kitchen and high end bathrooms (3), bedrooms, overhaul of electric, gas and water systems and installation of ductless AC units throughout. They were very thorough in completing the work, helpful in communicating as work went on, and guided us through the project successfully.

I hired Jon Ecland and Ecostruct to renovate a two bedroom Coop apartment in Brooklyn. The work involved complete renovations of two bathrooms and a kitchen. The work was first class and Jon bought the project in on time and on budget. Jon worked with us on the bid, finding solutions that helped us keep the budget on track. Jon has a good crew that he has obviously worked with for years and if he was not onsite himself, he ensured a project manager was always present. Jon is a very knowledgeable and professional contractor and I am happy to recommend him.

We are incredibly pleased with our experience with Ecostruct and would strongly recommend Jon and his company without any hesitation. We hired Ecostruct to gut-renovate our bathroom and kitchen and to create an open living space where a series of walls had once been. Not only did Ecostruct do a great job with the project, but Jon completed the entire project on time (to the date promised, in fact). We were so pleased with the work that we expanded the project as it went on, and by the end had effectively gut-renovated the entire apartment with the help of Ecostruct. All along the way, Jon was very responsive to our requests and the growing nature of the project, and maintained the 8-week timing despite the growing scope of the work. Jon has a great aesthetic eye and provides plenty of good advice along the way; he is also a great communicator and corresponded with us quickly regularly (by e-mail, text, and phone) to keep us up to date and to resolve any questions we had. Our entire experience was very smooth and made the renovation of our apartment (a co-op in a large, 1940s building) much easier and much smoother than we could have imagined. We VERY highly recommend Jon and Ecostruct!

Ecostruct did a wonderful job renovating our duplex apartment. Here is a list of some of the work: built-in bookshelf (immense wall-length and wall-height shelving), new doors, painting entire apt., new handrails for stairway, new lighting solution utilizing reclaimed wood architectural accent, sanded floors, new heater baseboards, marble window sills, new closet frames. He worked closely with our architect to implement hi-design renovation and had many ideas from his experience that were very helpful and practical. All of the teams - plumbing, electric, demolition - that he brought in were very professional and met our coop board standards. We lived in the apt. for part of the renovation comfortably because each day projects were contained and cleaned up. Our project was done within time expectations which were tight. Jon worked around our busy schedule and stopped by early morning to touch base if we had a question or late evening after regular work hours; this was always a great comfort to know he was ready to address any concerns. I have no hesitation recommending Ecostruct and would use them again.

I hired Jon after soliciting bids from four other firms and his bid was substantially lower than the other firms. Jon and his company had worked with my architect for many previous projects and he came highly recommended. The project included: 1) New floors, leveling and soundproofing in the living room 2) Tiles in the kitchen 3) Re-enforcing the kitchen roof in order to tear down support walls. 4) A complete kitchen overhaul, with custom millwork and stone work. 5) Heated tiles and leveling in the upstairs bedroom 6) A custom staircase. 7) A custom handrail to go with the staircase. 8) Lots of electrical work for lighting and appliances. 9) Painting 10) A pocket door for a walk-in closet 11) A custom metal railing for the mezzanine. Jon worked with three other companies. I hired McCarthy flooring company to do the downstairs wood floors, American Woods and Veneers for kitchen millwork and installation, and Ivan David Engineers & Associates for the engineering drawings and specifications of redoing the kitchen. Overall Ecostruct worked quite well with the other companies. There was some slight miscommunication with American Woods as to who would keep the kitchen site clean, but Ecostruct ended up cleaning up after them. Here are some highlights: I had no major complaints from my neighbors. Jon kept the building clean and had open communication with my neighbors as the job progressed. After the job was done he quickly patched up and repaired all small cracks in my neighbors apartments that were bound to happen in a job this size. The company doing the kitchen millwork had a lot of trouble installing some closet doors on top of the tiles I had installed, after that company ruined a couple of my tiles, Ecostruct was able to quickly do the task correctly and replaced the cracked tiles. Ecostruct was extremely fast during the demo phase of the project, they were also very flexible as the scope of the project and timelines changed. Because the timelines had changed, Ecostruct had to manage putting workers on my job with their other jobs so the last touches and finishes took a bit longer than expected. As the whole project took a lot longer than expected due to multiple issues, Ecostruct was nice enough to throw in some bathroom renovations such as installing a new toilet, sink and reglazing the tub which was a nice. Overall Ecostruct delivered within the budget they set and even though it took a couple of rounds they finished everything in the final walkthrough punchlist. As this was my first renovation project I do not have a good basis to compare it to, but Jon was a pleasure to work with and I highly recommend him.

When I needed to carve out a second sleeping area in my one bedroom apartment - challenged by limited space and a layout where all the light and air were in one place - Jon Eklund and Ecostruct were life savers. Jon's experience in design, real life practicality and creative problem solving coupled with his building expertise and integrity were a pleasure to work with. We really enjoyed working with Ecostruct to remodel our house this year. They were extremely professional, thorough, detail-oriented, hard-working and conscientious of our needs and wants. We renovated the main floor of our house: broke down walls to make an open space, installed HVAC units, installed a new staircase, remodeled the bathroom and closet, installed new appliances, windows, tiles, fixtures and cabinets, insulated the entire house and refinished our porch. Ecostruct was very responsive to our desires and provided several options when making decisions in the design stage. They were also quite flexible when we changed our minds about what we wanted mid-project and followed up to make sure that we were happy with things after the project was over. We are very satisfied with our new space and highly recommend Ecostruct.

Jon did a renovation of our duplex apartment in Brooklyn including putting in a huge bookshelf and cabinets in the living room, closets, changing room layouts etc. The whole process was great from start to finish. Jon got it done on time, he did excellent work, he had many great ideas about the design, and was just generally very pleasant to deal with. I will definitely work with him again.

Finding a contractor can be an intimidating part of a renovation. I met with several but I ended up going with Jon (the first one I met) because his estimate was fair and reasonable and his ideas and vibe resonated the best with me. I knew we would get along as a team in this project and I was proved right. I had a vision for my kitchen and bathroom but didn't know exactly how it would all come together. While a lot of the color schemes were ultimately what I had planned, I am humble enough to admit that the best ideas (i.e. my custom built window seat) were definitely his. He has really good taste, or at least taste that jibed with mine. We definitely hit some bumps along the way, as it happens with all renovations but those issues were always handled swiftly and efficiently. At times, Jon just took the little side jobs into his own hands just to get it done quicker. (Very much appreciated) If they were a little more than minor, we definitely reached a resolution that was happy for all involved. As for communication, I always felt assured and well taken care of as a client. He answered my texts, phone calls and emails promptly. When certain materials were not available, he helped me find comparable (if not often times better) alternatives. A few times, I simply showed him a picture of an object I wanted and the next thing I knew, I got it. In the end, I went a little bit over my budget but considering the amount of things I added on, it really was a reasonable. If I hadn't added on my tidbits, the estimate would definitely have been accurate. The crew was also very friendly and kind. I chose to live in my space while the work was being done. While trying at times, they always tried to leave the apartment with some measure of comfort for me (which wasn't easy as I live in a converted studio). Also, I heard nothing but nice things from my neighbors, who said they were always courteous and respectful. And that said, I absolutely adore my new space. It looks better than I could have envisioned. I've had so many guests over at this point and they're absolutely shocked at the transformation and while I studiously picked out a lot of the materials, I am so happy Ecostruct was the company to help me realize this goal. I heartily recommend them and would use them again in a heartbeat.

You hear nightmare stories of working with contractors; and when our original contractor let us down on the day we were due to begin renovations, I thought this was going to be one of them, but they say things happen for a reason... And so we were fortunate enough to connect with Ecostruct. I rarely give anyone five stars but Ecostruct (Jon and his team) did a fantastic job. They took on a challenging renovation at a busy time of year and delivered with professionalism and quality. Nothing was a problem for them and they tackled issues that arose with a range of solutions that were cost effective and in a calm and collected manner. I have recommended Ecostruct to people and would work with them anytime. We are very happy with their work. Fantastic job.

jon and the entire team from ecostruct were wonderful to work with, very professional, resourceful and always positive, no stress!! they were very respectful of other tenants in the building, keeping the common areas clean of any dust, equipment or garbage. jon and his project manager were always available for any questions or concerns i would have. their work is first rate and they take pride in their work (and it shows). they are very knowledgable and go above and beyond any other contractor i have worked with, they truly have a stellar work ethic. i highly recommend them and hope to have the pleasure of working with them again in the near future.

Ecostruct performed a full design and rehabilitation of our 1000 sq/ft garden in Ft. Greene that was essentially an uneven, littered patch of dirt with construction materials buried below the dirt. Jon was very attentive with what we were looking for and provided a proposal that was both better priced and more in line with what we were looking for compared to other submissions we received. The project took a bit longer than expected, but i would have to blame that more on mother nature than ecostruct as the rain interfered. All in all i think Jon and Ecostruct did a great job, got us exactly what we wanted and did it at a price that was fair and competitive. We hired Jon Eklund and the Ecostruct team to remodel our kitchen and bathrooms in a Manhattan high-rise. Ecostruct was selected from three bidders that our designer and project manager collected on The Sweeten. We selected Ecostruct initially because the price was significantly lower than the other contractors that bid on the place. Based solely on price, we had some concerns that we would be sacrificing quality for the lower price, but this was not the case at all. We got a good deal on a fairly complicated project and the results were terrific - they speak for themselves and our kitchen was recently featured in New York Magazine's Design Issue (http://nymag.com/homedesign/design-hunting/2014/winter/upper-west-side-kitchen/). Beyond the quality of the work and the price, let me describe what it is like to work with Jon and his team. First, our building staff has worked with a lot of contractors and they were very pleased and happy with Jon's team and how they respected the building rules and policies (which means a lot since I've heard horror stories of superintendents and contractors not getting along). This took a huge amount of stress off of us and meant that we didn't need to mediate anything. It also meant that the whole project could be completed basically on time - the transformation was done between Christmas and New Year's, with some touch-up work in the week or two following. Second, Jon is very helpful and accommodating when there are issues and surprises - and there will be issues and surprises. For example, we learned once the walls were down that the wiring for our kitchen was not done in the way that our design anticipated. Jon and Sarah Zames of General Assembly (our architect/designer and general project manager) called us immediately and we brainstormed options together. They presented three proposals to fix it, my wife and I suggested a modification to one that would be cheaper and Jon was happy with the idea and made the adjustment without losing any time in the process (which involved putting in a whole ceiling above our kitchen - how this didn't really slow us down, I will never know). Overall, we had three change orders but nothing that was outrageous on price or delay, and Jon was conscious and helpful in minimizing the costs for changes. Finally, Jon's team is great, but Jon himself worked on our project and was always available to answer emails or discuss over the phone. I mean always - we emailed him weeks after the project when we discovered that something did not work right and he promptly worked out a plan to fix it. You really are building a relationship with him and his growing business. For full disclosure, I should mention that not everything is perfect. We had some complicated herringbone tiling in the bathroom shower that we think was difficult for Jon's tiling guy and the edges don't look clean. The shower door also had an issue that Jon offered to fix for free but we decided it wasn't worth it in the end. But these are minor flaws in the overall quality of the work, given the speed and ease with which the project was completed, the overall aesthetic of the finished product and our overall satisfaction with Jon's attention to the project and to his relationship with us as his client. We would not hesitate to hire Ecostruct again for future (and larger) projects.

We hired Ecostruct to convert a dining room into a nursery. We were obviously concerned about doing an eco-friendly job given the arrival of a new born. Ecostruct was great in making sure to use zero VOC paint and to keep any bad chemicals at bay.

Jon and his company did some reconstruction work on our kitchen. His estimate was fair and he came in on time and totally in budget. He was great to communicate with and I have nothing but great things to say. We are planning on doing our bathroom sometime in the near future and I hope to get Ecostruct to do the work. Jon? :)

Ecostruct did an excellent job repairing and renovating parts of our home after extensive damage caused by an air-conditioning leak. They were friendly, professional, and worked quickly and efficiently within our time frame. During the process we stayed with friends out of state and Ecostruct sent us daily emails and photos showing the progress. I would highly recommend this company.

Jon helped us renovate our Fort Greene apartment. He entirely redid the kitchen and the floors, fixed some lighting and took care of wall painting. Jon's work was absolutely flawless, but more importantly he was strictly on time and on budget which is remarkable. Jonathan, the owner, was actively involved from Day 1 and was very responsive to my needs. As issues arose, they were dealt with promptly and professionally. Jonathan is extremely knowledgeable and was able to guide me through the process, which was very helpful, especially since it was was first renovation. I would have no hesitation in hiring Ecostruct for my next project, and wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone looking to take on a similar project.

We renovated an alcove studio apartment in the Flatiron district of Manhattan by replacing the kitchen, bathroom, and adding a wall to separate the alcove from the living space. Jonathan was involved in the entire renovation. He is smart, thoughtful, professional, trustworthy, and honest. Although the job took longer than anticipated due to unexpected findings during demolition, Jonathan was always available, on site if he needed to be, and in touch with his sub contractors. Jonathan’s cost estimate did not waver unless a design element was changed and we never felt as if we were being unfairly charged for any service he provided. Jon worked closely with our architect, and was not afraid to offer suggestions or provide his insight. For us, this was brilliant because we prefer to work with someone who has experience he is willing to share. At the same time, Jon is able to take direction and does not allow his ego to dictate his actions. Jonathan’s availability for touch-ups/ punch list items once the renovation was completed has been remarkable. He stands by his work and is proud, a winning combination for all involved.

I have not only hired Ecostruct for multiple jobs but have also called for opinions/consultations and Jon is always willing to help us out. The projects I have used Ecostruct for include installing lighting (recessed and chandelier), rewiring electrical, installing shelving and wallpapering. I am always very happy with the results which are timely and on budget. Lastly - and I think most importantly - I trust Jon's opinion. He always presents us with different options and ideas for what will work best. I will continue to use Ecostruct for any project that arises.

Ecostruct handled the cosmetic upgrades to our prior home. Jon and his crew were amazing and accurate in both their quote and their work. Jon helped us think through what we wanted, and ensured we spent where necessary, and saved wherever he found an alternate at reduced cost. This practical sensibility belies Jon's creativity, he's amazing at executing on a vision, inside budget, and within timelines. Ecostruct is our go-to remodeling solution, we'll never use anyone else again.

Project: repair and refinish wood floors. 3 storey townhouse. Ecostruct was professional. They did a very thorough job using highly skilled workmen. Honest and concerned about minimizing interruption with homeowners daily life. They stuck to the budget. I have used this contractor subsequently for minor repairs with equally good results. I give this contractor 5 stars.

We hired Ecostruct LLC for a kitchen and bathroom remodel in our 450 sq ft studio. The kitchen needed a gut renovation including removing a wall. The bathroom needed upgrades including installing a new sink and vanity as well as a medicine cabinet. Jon was very professional and a pleasure to work with. His estimate was on target with our budget, and he explained the entire process in terms we could understand. He was dedicated to doing everything on our wishlist within our budget and had experience working with IKEA kitchens and bath to keep our costs down. He's a great personable guy and an excellent communicator. He always answered our phone calls and he responds to emails promptly. Not one time during our renovation was he ever missing or unresponsive, which is a common complaint we've heard about contractors. Construction went very well. His crew was respectful of our building and worked around the many constraints of renovating in a CO-OP. The final product turned out even better than we imagined. We bought an apartment in Manhattan last December and it was in bad shape and not suited to our needs, with a closed in kitchen, 2 small bedrooms, tiny bathroom, etc. Jon and his team completely transformed the apartment into the most beautiful apartment I've ever seen. We couldn't be happier. I still get compliments on a regular basis, months after moving in. While the renovation took longer than expected, there were a lot of issues out of Jon's control. We hired Jon at Ecostruct (thanks to the Sweeten!) as the contractor for our first-floor townhouse renovation. The project included gut renovation of kitchen and bathroom, new wood floor, updated plumbing, and new boiler.
