I came across such Onyx slabs at a Marble importer in Medford, MA while hunting for a calcutta for my bathroom remodel. He had the most beautiful artwork-like slabs. I attach a pic of one that I was considering. It's definitely artwork, and would look gorgeous if backlit.

The lighting we used under the stairs is from Paradigm LED. I'm familiar with Kichler as a company but do not have experience with their products in landscape lighting. If you have any questions about whether or not it will work, I would recommend mocking it up. If you like the way it turns out, just make sure you get a good warranty in case you have any issues with the product.

Good Luck!

How did you achieve that light fade you're talking about? This looks terrific.

The key to the light just fading away is to do the detail in a way that you eliminate the sharp cut-offs you can get if you don't pay attention to the detail. By detailing the hiding of the light strip in a way that eliminates any sharp lines, architectural elements have that floating on light illusion.

Well....this design was designed 7 or 8 years ago before white LED strips were really good and energy was cheap. We used a low voltage strip from a company called Toki-star and it was over 30W/LF at probably 200 Lumens/LF. Today I use a few different brands, but GM Lighting, Paradigm LEDs, Environmental LEDs, Edge Lighting and many others make great versions of LED strip lights that come in all different outputs. To use it as an accent light you don't need many lumens/LF and could get away with something under 100. To light the room, I would recommend a strip that gives you over 200 Lumens/LF.

Thx.
