Harrell Remodeling is a full-service design + build residential remodeling company based in the San Francisco Bay Area. For many Bay Area homeowners, we are pleased to be their "contractor for life."

In 1985, Harrell Remodeling-founded by Iris Harrell-began with a single employee. Today, we employ nearly fifty, including award-winning designers, architects and accomplished craftspeople.

    We went the opposite route. When we removed the kitchen, we had to build a steel 'bridge', i.e. a joist and posts, and none of the components are visible. In the attached photo you still see the old kitchen footprint - the radiant heat tubes are laid from left to right. Two bridge pillars are to the right (you only see the left one here; they are now both hidden between high kitchen cabinets) and the opposite pillar looks just like the other posts between the new windows. The joist is hidden in the ceiling. We chose this option because our house is rather small and posts would have chopped up the space.

    ejmcgrenere This is something I have not even given a thought about, but what a wonderful idea. I think most take too much for granted.
    It will certainly take a lot of time, but very sensible.
