gwnorth Wyland Interiors - the pool shape is a hunchback kidney. I like the organic shape of it. It softens the edges of our otherwise rigid yard. To be honest though from a purely logistical perspective, a rectangular pool would have maximized the space more effectively, but that would have resulted in a much more formal look to the yard. I really wanted to have a resort feel, though I love the look of traditional formal gardens as well. I get a bit of that with my boxwood hedges flanking the eating area and the built in planter in front of the deck. I think we managed a good balance of the two sytles with the upper deck and patio areas being more Mediterranean and the lower pool deck more tropical (as much as we can be with our climate). The only disadvantage to the pool shape is that the decking around the pool is quite tight and limits where I can place pool side seating/lounging.

kjc5555 We bought a custom built Eichler in the east bay of San Francisco and we are nearing the end of a total gut and renovation . Two years , new roof, new sewer ,new floors new everything.All the outside as well was redone and landscaped .I have kept the whole design the same internally having removed only one wall. Just improved on what is an amazing piece of architecture and we love it !!!

tamaranara Love well chosen and placed boulders. My pet peeve is seeing the patina scraped off boulders by machinery and tools. I understand the Japanese are very good at moving large boulders and not disturbing the the living materials on the surface of the rock.

uberv We brought in 27 tons of moss rock and a truck load of river rock to redo the slope in our front yard. By next spring the native plants should have filled in well. It works well with all the rock in the back around the swimming pool. The pool was inspired by all the native limestone outcropping and ledge at the back of the house.
