We used the area rug in the sitting area to anchor the furniture. We were not trying to hide anything as we were very comfortable with the way the floor blended with the paneling. This combination, however, was used only in the home office/den. The rest of the home had soft white enameled baseboards and casings. I hope that helps- let us know if you have any other questions!
