I have a plain, raw wood nightstand I want to use to introduce a pop of orange color to the room. I think just painting the piece with an orange lacquer would too overwhelming for the room.

I was wondering if tinting a polyurethane orange would still give me color, shine and interest, without looking like straight up painted piece. Thoughts?

Think there would be a difference in using oil or water based paint? I prefer to use water.
